The FX9 was announced in September of 2019 so at this point more than five years ago and we still have to wait a while longer. I’m tending to think that’s going to be the product cycle pace for the rest of the FX line going forward. Sony has already announced an FX6 firmware update for 2026! And FX3 firmware for late 2025. I’m not holding my breath for new cameras next year. And on another note, the a9III global shutter sensor would be awful in the FX3 and FX6. We buy that camera for the low light latitude available at ISO12800. If Sony takes that away customers will flee to Canon-for that matter they probably are already since the FX line is falling behind in some respects. Regardless the a9III sensor is expensive, has less dynamic range, and none of the high-native ISO capability. That would not fit their product niche whatsoever.

someone Cleary didnt see cine d prove how amazing the a9iii dynamic range in video is. @ If you can work at ISO2000 on all your projects then the DR isn’t terrible with the a9III sensor. However, I have the FX3 and FX6 because they perform well at a more reasonable ISO800 for bright conditions as well as at ISO12800 for documentary and event filming when light is limited. If Sony takes all that away by dropping an a9III sensor into future FX cameras then they ruin the line and I switch brands.

@@ThePistonPit In what way wouldn't that be closer to the Z6 III or Z8? The Z8 costs around €4.300, the Z6 III (which would be the direct competitor) costs €2.800, and you conveniently leave out the Z7 II which is between €3.000 and €3.200 most of the time. 44 MP + 20 FPS would be at price tage which most likely will be in-between €2.600 - 3.000: - A lot more MPs than the Z6 III (24 MP) at similar speeds - Basically the same amount of MPs as the Z7 II (46 MP), but twice as fast at a similar or lower price. - Basically the same amount of MPs as the Z8 (46MP) at lower speeds, but a fraction of its price. How does that translate to you in it not being closer to any of those cameras? Now, will these specs happen? That's up for debate. Especially, in terms of speed... 20 FPS is nice and all, but given that the A7 series is aimed at entry level FF (only A7C series is a cheaper way into FF), a lot of people who buy them also like to use third party lenses, and they are capped at a speed of 15 FPS. So, even if it would be 44MP at 15 FPS it would be a solid upgrade over the A7 IV (especially if they add the ai chip for faster AF, RAW pre-capture, etc. and it would absolutely compete with its competitors. The Canon R6 II (+/- 2.500) is a lot faster at 40 FPS, but has a 24 MP sensor. If you want something with more MP, you're looking at €4.800 that you will need to cough up for a FF Canon that can do that. And Nikon... well as we have established, if it's closely priced to the Z6 III it would offer higher MPs at slightly slower or similar speeds, and if it's priced closely to the Z7 II, it would be faster with similar MP count. And let's not compare it with the Z8, because comparing it to a camera, which costs €1.300+ more than a new A7V is completely ridiculous.

I think their business plan is based on selling interchangeable lens cameras because the up-selling of lenses is a massive turnover/profit multiplier for each interchangeable lens camera sold. The same is not true for a fixed lens camera. Also, they may reason that if they updated the RX1R2 and included IBIS, an improved grip, a fixed viewfinder (for weather and dust resistance) etc etc, it may well end up only a little smaller than the A7CR (give or take). We should return to Alpha A mount philosophy, the wizardry that made the A99II rack up 12fps and a buffer of 300 frames at 42 megapixel uncompressed lossless 16 bit raw vs the A7r3 of the same time unable to shoot compressed 12 bit raw at more than 5fps and 120 files

Seeing the caveats that the Sony A9 3 has using a global shutter it would be perfect if they put a global shutter in an aps-c camera as the issues with dynamic range would not be a problem seeing how it's in the aps-c camera. And would blow away the new Canon R7 Mark II
@bobnason41472 күн бұрын
We can only dream, but an APS-C stacked sensor could be a possibility.
@renestaempfli10712 күн бұрын
Do you own an A9III? Have you ever used one? Is DR an issue above ISO 800, which is normal in high speed low light sitations? Is DR really a problem at base ISO 250. Can you show me examples on a 10 bit screen or on print?
@HagaishiSama2 күн бұрын
@renestaempfli1071 Why do you ask that when many experts that all they do is do them kinds of test so we don't have to. You sound like you just want to argue. But like I said seeing how the dynamic range in the Sony 893 is not the same as the rest of the full frame lineup from Sony because of the global shutter it would be perfect for a PSC body especially if they can get the iso as low as 100 or 50 because of the smaller sensor of a crop body It would be ground breaking! I don't know where your tryin to get at with your comment but please keep it positive.

@renestaempfli1071 And look up Gerald undone. He has done test on the A9iii very well and could answer whatever questions you may have.

@bobnason4147 I think Sony is gonna have to do that seeing how Canon is about the rule the aps-c market with the R7ii. It's gonna be the 1st stacked sensor aps-c camera on the market. Even tho Canon has crap glass and even worst for it apsc line up. That R7ii is gonna be sweet. Wouldn't make me change and leave Sony but I can see alot of people doing so just for the technology. If Sony gives us a apsc with a global shutter. Than the problems they had with the A9iii wouldn't matter because it's on a apsc sized sensor. I feel that would blow Canon out the water and Sony would capture being the apsc king with better technology and superior glass. But that's just a dream 🙏🏿

@andrea_pizzini why can't these manufacturers make a camera with a rocker zoom ? Yes fx3 has a zoom but it's not a rocker zoom. I'm convinced that a ton of videographers would buy that camera.
@michaeltaylor38352 күн бұрын
FF 100MP sensor would not be good. Physics: higher noise / poor performance in low light + higher (sensor) diffraction / decreased sharpness. 50MP is about the physical limit for image quality on FF. Beyond that is marketing. DR, speed, global shutter are more important upgrades.

Global Shutter would not be on my wish list. I prefer a low light monster with 6 MP.
@joseqmeh1012 күн бұрын
they wont stay in the 12mp cause they need at least 25mp to have 6K open gate or 28mp for 6k with digital stabilization. The competition is already on the 6K territory I doubt Sony continue offering just 4k120p

Fx3ii needs a second iso base around 3-4k
@waveland2 күн бұрын
Only if it’s a triple-base like the C400. Many of us primarily shoot FX to have the native ISO12800 option.
@tonehtheories2 күн бұрын
Certainly 12800 iso is useful. It's a gainstage that makes sense when needed. Some may conclude that anything between 800 and 12800 on a fx3 looks worse compared to a modern camera with a gainstage in between. Nobody would set a c80 for example to 12800 because its beautiful, only out of necessity. So everybody needs to ND or stop down from a not optimal gainstage on fx3/6 for the majority of scenarios when iso800 is not enough. This leads to an image some might say way not on par compared to modern cameras with a middle iso gainstage. On the plus side is the Sony featureset that is unmatched some may conclude.
@waveland2 күн бұрын
@@tonehtheories It’s always about the deliverables. The FX3/FX6 are fantastic for a certain category of work and therefore I wouldn’t want Sony messing too much with a formula that’s been so successful (and that commercial agencies have come to prefer). At the same time I would love to have 6k internal RAW in a next gen FX design but without giving away the low light options. We will see. The FX9 replacement I tend to think will function in the same niche as the current system 800/4000 (?) if memory serves. The rest of the FX line updates seem to be pushed out till 2026 so I’m not giving that much thought.
