Actually Pirlo played infront of defence as pivot and regista converting defensive passages into offence, Gattuso acted as pirlos "bodyguard" satellite filling in the spaces and covering for pirlo, seedorf was the connective tissue between the players who were involved in attack st any one time. Truly a "swiss watch" of football system and formation. Elegant and precise.

Actually during the second half, Liverpool changed their midfield into 3, Hamman, Alonso and Gerrard. That trio beat Milan's midfield and later became the template for Liverpool 09 when Macherano came in. Became one of the best offense team in Europe that time.

There are lots of videos out there showing Seedorfs skills. Of course he was technically skilled but it was the combination with his physicality, his vision and his intelligence that made him such an exceptional player. Till this day he is the only player to win the Champions League with three different clubs and if there hadn't been Zidane and Ronaldinho playing in the same era he would have been rated higher than he actually is. Still my favourite player.
