Why are people complaining that it was a premature call? What could Nelson possibly have done to save himself? He practically landed face first, turned around, and left himself wide opened for even more punches. No matter what, the fight would have been ended right then and there.

In an interview with Mike Straka not to long ago Roy was asked about the weight and fighting at 205. Roy said he would do it towards the tail end of his career, and as a former fighter myself (I fought at both 205 and 230 and I'm 6'4) I believe he would give Jones a real tough fight and could beat him. He ate all of JDS punches and kept on coming. JDS would beat Jones who walks around at 221. Roy has a GREAT chin, Heart, punches hard, solid bjj, and stamina (as a fat guy) imagine as a 205er.
@swewunna11 жыл бұрын
Arlovski's problem is his glass chin. He has all the technique, atheletic physique etc. But one hit to the chin and lights are out. That's how he lost to the fights he was winning.

didn't think roy was gonna lose this one. Roy is tougher now, stronger chin and better head movement to avoid the combo strikes. When you fall face down like that the ref will be quick to wave it. The stand-up when Roy had andrei down was wrong. Roy seemed to think that he had the best position. What improvement did the ref want? A full mount might have worked, but roy had great control already. oh well.

In this fight Arlovski did what no UFC fighter came close to...so much for Alrovski no being good. Its just that his chin is diminished these days...its years of training and getting punched in the head constantly...but there must be some other health problem who knows. But I think that the huge reason for his KO loses are that he just faces tough fighters, seriously Kharitonov...perhaps the best MMA brawler right now. Bottomline Arlovski is an amazing fighter and champion for a reason.
@JEFFCLEVANDR11 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter if he was trying for the whole round... The point was that Roy had side control and was attacking with a submission. A ref is suppose to be impartial. By standing them up he saved Arlovski from a possible submission. The ONLY time a red is suppose to stand up fighters is if the fighters are in a neutral position and are at a stalemate. Such was not the case when the ref stood them up. Therefore the ref had no reason to stand them up.

@VEGETADTX It is true. You hardly see any decision losses by Arlovski. Majority are all KO or TKO and by punches. It sucks. I've seen him in a few fights, but I think he's a good fighter. It's just his chin that cripples him.
@irphil4713 жыл бұрын
@VEGETADTX actually, JDS came pretty close to finishing him, and Crocop had him up against the cage in rd 2. Don't get me wrong, Nelson has one of the best chins in heavyweight, and props to Arlovski for finishing such a tough dude, but I just don't ever see him being successful against top tier guys in his div since his chin can't take the punishment that heavyweights are throwing around these days. I love Arlovski, but maybe a move to light heavyweight or middleweight may benefit him more.

I would agree if this was kickboxing or boxing, where knockdowns result in an 8 count, but since Andrei easily could have dropped several more bombs after he hypothetically pounced on the dazed Roy, it probably still would have been stopped anyway-- keeping the fight going in a circumstance like that is basically encouraging unnecessary minor brain damage, imo. Pat Curran vs Joe Warren in Bellator was like that.

How was he still able to defend himself? You can clearly see that his body goes limp for a second and if it wasn't completely he would have just sustained extra unnessesary damage. He basically just rolled over and you could tell he was done.
@VEGETADTX13 жыл бұрын
@drfeelgud88 I am glad you agree man...I think that when you meet a stage of career where your chin diminishes completely like in the case of Arlovski and Crocop, I believe you can only seek success in grappling...but then again that wouldn't be entertaining, that's why Crocop retired just recently :( But then again, you never know when some of them can pull of some amazing victory...
@jorgejrv13 жыл бұрын
attempting a submission and attempting a pass are basically the same. the ref is right to stand them up if either a guard pass or submission attempt fail consistently. Or would you like 5 mins of a guillotine attempt without a ref standing it up

It was a good stoppage and a good stand up. The crowd and fans like myself don't want to see unexciting ground fighting.(Hence the roaring boos) If a fighter is working a sub for more than 30 seconds with no advancement then the ref should stand them up so they can FIGHT. Its a FIGHT remember, not a grappling contest. Real warriors are strikers and that is what WE want to see. If you have a problem with stand ups then maybe you should watch wrestling or BJJ tournaments where thats all they do...

Andrei had already rocked him badly with an uppercut right underneath the jaw, and that cross was brutal... 'stoppage' implies it was a TKO but nah, Andrei actually turned Nelson's lights out, even if he probably regained consciousness on the ground. Even still, plenty of guys report being dazed/unable to remember what just happened, even when the ref stops it during a beatdown and they don't actually lose consciousness... don't be a bloodmonger.
