If Breath of the Wild mostly resembled Zelda 1 and Tears of the Kingdom Zelda 2 it is safe to assume this year's Zelda will be a tribute to A Link to the Past and the next one loosely based on Ocarina of Time. What a time to be alive.

Development Time for Zelda Games: -Wind Waker: 2.5 years -Minish Cap: 2.5 years -Twilight Princess: 3 years -Phantom Hourglass: 2.5 years -Spirit Tracks: 2 years -Skyward Sword: 4.5 years -Link Between Worlds: 3.5 years -Tri-Force Heroes: 2 years There has never been an original, mainline Zelda game in development for less than 2 years. If we assume EoW took a round 2 years to make, then that means it would have been in dev for 1.25 years by December 2023. There is no way Aonuma wasn't referring to EoW there.

While true that both games are for the Switch era. But The Wild era has so much potential , and it left us with so many plot holes that needed to be filled. And since Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity sets in an alternate timeline & Ganondorf’s body is still beneath Hyrule castle, I hope Nintendo will make a sequel.

Why on Earth does BOTW need a remake??? It came out on the last two systems, are people that mentally brain dead where we want a remake of a game WE JUST PLAYED? It's still available. Two things. 1: what if it's an open world remake of OoT? 2: Eiji Aonuma has stated in the past that he is, quite probably, the Biggest Fan of what they have created, and gets Excited to hear fans rave about the games, which he still enjoys playing even though he helped make them... The man is a Gamer and a Fan FIRST, A Nintendo Employee Second. And that is EXACTLY Who you want involved in the development... A Fan. A LOT of the Older Nintendo Employees are like that. It's not about the power, it's not about the Speed, what matters is the FUN. The company Started with Taxi-Services, Children's Toys, and Love Hotels... It's ALWAYS been about the "FUN" With Nintendo... even if the TYPE of fun has changed drastically over the decades.

The excitement of exploring a huge temple and wonder of where and what the key item will be is what i miss. The key items made exploring temples so fun and then once you finish the temples you can go back to places you have previously explored and get around to places you couldnt before. That is ruined with the full open air design that allows you to cheese certain things.

It’s pretty unanimously considered the worst Zelda game ever made and I don’t think too many people would be excited to replay it unless it was significantly changed to the point that it’s not even the same game anymore. Simply being old doesn’t make a game deserving of a remake, it’s has to be good enough that people actually want to play it again. The Oracle games would be great though, I’m sure a lot of people would really enjoy remakes of those. But let’s be honest OOT and MM are the most popular games in the franchise and people would absolutely pay good money to replay those games as modern remakes. Not as many people know about the Oracle games so remakes of those wouldn’t sell as well as remakes of peoples favorite games would.

I think Wind Waker and A Link Between Worlds might get remakes for the Switch in a few years or so, when the post-successor era begins for the Switch, like the 3DS getting several ports after Switch's launch in 2017. In terms of Twilight Princess, I think that, since the next mainline Zelda will probably be releasing in 2028 or 2029, they could fill that gap in the Switch 2 with a full-on graphical remake (not just an HD port) to showcase the console's graphical capabilities; and out of every Zelda game, the one that would take advantage of it the most would be Twilight Princess; remove loading screens, make QoL improvements, orchestral soundtrack and remake those graphics without needing to update animations. That's also something that can more easily be outsourced since the game is modern enough that they can enhance assets without building everything all over again. (Even though people would prefer Ocarina of Time, barely any assets could be recycled; it would be more like a reboot if anything)

Honestly, it is logic to have a OoT remake for the succesor of the Switch. It will server both as a Zelda Launching tittle and to show the graphical power of the new console. Oot was released on 1998 , and its last re-release on the 3DS was in 2011. I think that it is now available on the Switch online expansion pack? but for most people it is going to be like a totally new game.

Great detective work. The logic you use at the end (needing a new major Zelda for the new system, but not enough time for a main entry) is exactly what I've been shouting into the wind for awhile now. So I agree. Also, keep in mind that Nintendo has been going ham on remakes and remasters lately. OoT is the big daddy of the Zelda franchise. Arguably the most legendary game of all-time. Those N64 games have aged terribly though, and I wonder if the huge success of a remake of FF7 (a game made around the same time as OoT) is something Nintendo has looked at. All the signs point to a OoT remake making way too much sense.

Eh, it would have to add a lot for me to be interested. As great as Ocarina was at the time of release, Twilight Princess improved upon nearly every aspect of the former aside from pacing. At minimum it would need something similar to Twilight with different combat skills, and potentially some semi-randomized or completely reworked dungeons.

Oh my goodness, a fullon remake of 'Ocarina of Time' from the groundup would be absolutely AMAZING! As a 90s person who has played the original 'Ocarina of Time' on the N64, the 3DS remastered version may have been a nice update of the game with some much needed QoL improvements, but it was still lacking in terms of playability and overall experience, as it was only a handheld remaster not made for the big screen. At the very least Nintendo could port the 3DS version over to the Switch or its successor. However, a fullon remake of the game from the ground up... perhaps including some previously cut content and gameplay concepts from the original N64 release (and the ever elusive Ura Zelda), perhaps making it a more "complete" game akin to their original vision that they couldn't realize due to N64 hardware limitations, ...that would be absolutely amazing and I'd run victory laps around the house in excitement if that were to happen.

Also, I think that Fujibayashi interview finally cements my King Rauru theory. Rauru is old and dead at the start of OoT and helped build the Temple of Time. Rauru's design was heavily referenced in Zelda's father's design in SS, which is also where we're shown the origins of the Mastersword and its pedestal. This was the first 3D Zelda game set before OoT. And finally in Tears of the Kingdom, we meet a Rauru, the founder of Hyrule, whose name was chosen because of his similarities to OoT Rauru (who would inspire the design of the oldest King of Hyrule we've seen so far), who just so happened to build a Temple of Time. If Rauru is seen by the devs as a suitable name for a Hyrulian king who can guide Link and Zelda, then I theorize that the king in Skyward Sword is the very same Rauru we meet in OoT, the original Hyrule's King.

OOT was my favorite Zelda game ever (and I think a lot of the Zelda community would agree). Just imagine a remake of it in 4k with reorchestrated music. What an amazing thought! I hope it happens next year after Switch 2 launches. All signs seem to point that way.

Talking about wanting to do a TP remaster and we got TPHD Talked about how Skyword Sword needed better controls and that he wanted to do a hd game, we got SWHD Talked about a future title where Zelda is playable And now about Ocarina of Time The man is like Kensuke Tanabe, who talked about Prime 4 in detail in 2015. 2 years before it got announced. And those details were fully shown in the trailer. Sakamoto talked about Dread in 2008 and 2010. And in 2018 again. In 2021 he confirmed that the idea of Dreas stayed the same throughout its 16 year development history

I love OoT 3D, but I don’t think people really play that version too much these days. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great remake, but The 3DS is old news at this point and it’s honestly shocking to me that OoT hasn’t had any other remakes before or since. If anyone plays OoT in 2024 it’s probably the n64 version on NSO or emulator. We are talking one of the greatest games of all time, A game that transcends generations, and yet officially there is no modern console remake in HD. I think it would be awesome if they gave it a similar treatment to FF7, where they greatly expand the world to be big and beautiful like BotW, maybe add some extra content.

The next flag ship game for the new switch will be a Mario game no doubt. Mario + switch 2 in 2025 along with Metroid ect. that being said, I think late 2026-2027 will be the year Zelda comes back in a bigger way with remakes like OOT / MM, maybe twilight + possibly another new 2D Zelda I don’t think we’ll see a new 3D Zelda title until 2028 minimum

Yeah I think an Ocarina Remake is inevitable. The series’ 40th anniversary is 2026 and the movie is possible that year too so the stars would be aligned for a big game. Add on that it would be around the standard remake/2D game that is released around 3 years after the new 3D game and I think it just makes so much sense. They clearly are thinking of doing remakes of older games but I don’t see them going back to the LA style for a third time for Oracle remakes and I especially don’t see them doing 3 2D games that close together.

Let me help you out all out with this perspective too. Reference Super Mario 64 on NSO. There was a remade Super Mario 3D Allstars game made for the Switch then they took it down it's hard to find anywhere and not really available. They want people to get NSO subscriptions to play it online instead. There's OOT and Majoras Mask on NSO so many could argue why remake them too. But who knows... we'll see.

I think his comment about not making a 3rd sequel and him saying that was the end of games in that world. He is referring to link. Zelda Will be that main character for the next arc in the games. Ganon and Ganondorf will become the 3rd arc of the story following all 3 parts of the triforce and it's influence on the land of hyrule... remember the original title of Zelda in Japan.
