I bowled my entire bowling life 1H righty (from the 80s to now), and switched to 2H lefty after dealing with wrist injuries. It’s taken a few years, but I’m starting to approach my 1H righty game. The difference is really that you can get away with more bad habits as a 2H, than as a 1H at the lower end of the learning curve. But as you get better, you’re going to hit a hard wall as a 2H if you don’t learn the basics correctly.... staying behind the ball, hitting your mark, etc. so many young 2H out there just shipping bad shots on easy patterns and scoring big, who will never advance any farther.

great video as someone who is a 2 hander i can def say the most difficult thing about 2 handed bowling is repeating the shot in my opinion, the release might be similar but it goes everywhere lol i do wish at the start i didnt care about how i couldnt cup my wrist 1 handed cause that was the main reason i started 2 handed, nothing will beat the look of a natural 1 handed bowling form in my opinion

I agree with your take on 2 handed bowling. I think it's good for the sport and I have no problem with it. However, like you, I grew up 1 handed and spent many many years perfecting it. 2 handed bowling isn't for me personally, but if I were starting from scratch today, I would definitely use 2 hands.

I’m 51 years old, and switched to two handed last year, after bowling my entire life one handed. I had to because I messed up my hand, practicing what I thought was good technique, but turned out to be not so good. My hand has recuperated, and I survived a difficult season in league. Finally, after a year of tireless work, I’m starting to feel comfortable bowling with two hands. Speed is back up to what I’m used to, and release is getting smoother. But I practice many hours a week. Taking your practice advice and tips, and making excellent progress. You’re never too old to learn.😊

I recently switched to 2 handed due to some injuries. I'm still struggling with consistency and repetition but am approaching my old skill level and average when I used to bowl 1h. Thanks for the video and looking forward to those 2h tips videos!

Excellent video and take on 2-handed bowling. True story. Saw guy to right of my pair last night (I shot 597 because I found a way to miss easy spares throughout the night), who is now infamous for bowling 800+ a year ago 2-handed including over 25 straight strikes. He barely shot 500. His 2-handed game is terrible and forget about making 10 pins - saw him miss several last night all the same way.

Andrew. It looks like your 2 handed game is more of a "spray and pray" type style. Definitely fun to watch. I think you may need to start with a weaker ball to develop the mechanics and consistency, then move to stronger balls like the Venom EJX. I play around with 2 handed righty and it's fun, but I have trouble with control (I can hook a 14lb house ball all of the boards at 15mph). I am usually a 1 handed lefty.

Remember Andrew, Mike Miller was bowling and winning on tour with no thumb before you guys were born. The 2nd hand is just an evolution of the palm ball style from the 70's and 80's. Nothing wrong with 2 handers,but its not as new as many make it out to be.
@ripvanrevs5 ай бұрын
I started bowling no thumb in the middle 1990s. I had to take my thumb out to be able to hook the ball as much as my brother who bowled with his thumb in. After more than 20 years from the game, I started back with my thumb in the ball. At the beginning of this year, I went full time no thumb and at 59 years old, feel great.

Can you do a video on what you mentioned about thumb timing and hitting the ball with revs the right way one handed?
@skategeezer18105 ай бұрын
Try taking out the thumb insert. Rest your thumb into the hole. That's how I am working on my two-handed shot. It keeps your track the same as one handed. When I need to move in and rev it up, I pull out the insert. There is no need for having balls just for two-handed.
@mdkantor62255 ай бұрын
Can you expand on how you can use the same ball two handed with and without thumb and not violate the no balance hole rule? Is your thumb "insert" basically a plug?
@skategeezer18105 ай бұрын
@mdkantor6225 I am using the thumb hole. I put in a massive thumb insert. My thumb just sits inside of the hole. There is no drag on the thumb. It comes off of the hand, just like no thumb, pretty much. One set of equipment for both styles.
@bowlingdj3005 ай бұрын
I wonder what the longevity of players Like Simo & Belmo will be with that style, Im 61 and still in decent shape but cant generate the speed for that and it also hurts my bad knee more as far as impact, actually wish i could do both styles...lol

I'm 59 and throw no thumb one hand. I use my legs to generate ball speed and mostly use 14 lb.
@etocdec5 ай бұрын
So you have the thumb hole while you were practicing. Since you can't have that throwing 2 handed does that real make a difference with a ball without the thumb hole in the motion of the ball.
@ripvanrevs5 ай бұрын
It depends on the ball. I had some that still looked good and others I had to have plugged and redrilled.

When you bowl one handed your spans are carefully measured and accurately drilled, but most 2 handers do not seem to care if both fingers have equal grip pressure
@superblitz5 ай бұрын
Hope you can get a new ball and have it drilled specifically without a thumb in order to get your 2-handed PAP. IMO: Troup is the best example of an optimal 2-hander. Why? He can play straighter.
@ripvanrevs5 ай бұрын
My no-thumb PAP is 6.25 over and 1.125 down! Very different than when I bowled thumb in.
@7mattga75 ай бұрын
@@ripvanrevs That is really similar to mine. Do you track over the middle finger too? I've been working on increasing my axis tilt but it isn't easy.
@jmorphius36195 ай бұрын
I feel like if you didn’t rush your shots and focused on technique you’d get it down pretty good. I’ve tried it myself with some mixed results but I’ve been bowling for 30 years so I’m probably a little too old to commit. I also considered bowling 1 league 2-handed only. I’d probably be lucky to average 150…lol

1H layouts just don't work 2 handed. Drill up something with 2LS and it gets even easier.
@enigmazero86245 ай бұрын
I’ve seen quite a few decent to good 1H players in my area “practicing” throwing it 2H in what really amounts to just goofing around. But those same people can’t be bothered to go out and actually practice trying to improve their game. It’s so stupid. I do not understand why people do that. If that’s how you bowl, that’s how you bowl. But we never see 2 handers goofing around throwing a ball with a thumb hole because they’d rather just work on their real game.
@MoistHooter5 ай бұрын
I definitely don't hate the 2 handed game or anything- it's every bit as impressive as 1 handed bowling and obviously creates much more exciting and violent pin carry. But to me it is literally a different sport than regular 10 pin bowling. Like, if I picked up a hockey puck and threw it into the net, that's a really effective way to score more goals! But it's a demonstrably different game and probably shouldn't be played at the same time as regular hockey.

Even though you're throwing a ball at pins, it's not bowling. I compare it to Tee Ball vs. baseball, both are hitting a ball. 2 hand bowling is like MLB playing Tee Ball because they can't handle a pitchers fastball and slider. 2 handed bowling throw it anywhere and watch it come back or hold in the oil if you pull it, the guy that won PBA playoffs is a prime example. No art, ruined the real game, but invented a new game that shouldn't be called PBA. Tee Ball PBA.

Pretty much EVERY bowler uses 2 hands. Some just take their off-hand away from the ball sooner than others.
