Following his experimental five-track Do Androids Dream EP earlier in the year, Anjunabeats innovator Andrew Bayer returns with another bold, artistic concept in his ‘Anamnesis Trilogy’.
Releasing a track every month from October through to the end of the year, Andrew Bayer’s ‘Anamnesis Trilogy’ is a return to the classics… reimagining past inspirations from trance and progressive’s golden eras and bringing them up to date with a 2015 twist in Bayer’s unique, inimitable style. Far from simple pastiches, though, they blend a timeless, lost sensibility with typically forward-thinking production and curveball twists.
Recently debuted during Above & Beyond’s ABGT 150 show in Sydney, the first release from the Anamnesis Trilogy, 'Nobody Told Me’, is a dark and twisted journey with Bayer at his experimental best.
"The Anamnesis Trilogy is all about reviving, reinterpreting and reimagining what I feel are classic - and lost - messages and motifs in trance and progressive. In this EDM-era, big room music has become obsessed with high impact, instant gratification and, to be honest, absolutely uninspiring and boring arrangements. I was listening back over my favourite trance and progressive records, and remembering when dance music was about a sense of journey and progression. Records where there was more than just a breakdown and Bro-DM drops... records where you sometimes moved across what felt like three different - and equally mind-expanding - records just to get the REAL moment in the track. That's the part that I f*cking love about Bayer...you never know what you are going to get...even mid-track...they can take a complete 180 degree turn and both phases still have subtle melodies linked together yet the average listener is thinking WTF? Love this!

So I realize this comment is 2 years old but it's interesting how trance and the like has gone back to a more melodic tone. Even still, I absolutely love this track and that drop that completely changes the nature of the track while keeping a hint of what came before is something I still can't get out of my head and have to listen to even to this day. As one who generally didn't like the direction of a lot of artists in this time period who went in the direction of ONFD's (One Note Festival Drop's) I felt this was different and really wakes the audience up in a good way :)
