This isn't the year of the musical for some stupid reason. The Greatest Showman (great music, mediocre film, at best, got tons of accolades and made a ton of money) but, in 2021 we get four amazing musicals (In the Heights, West Side Story, Tick tick Boom and Dear Evan Hansen) and no one seems to care. It's mystifying. All four of these films blow La La Land out of the water, in my opinion.

@@scottherdliska372 it's cause the movies you mentioned are made by people who know and love musicals, therefore are known mostly by other ppl who love musicals, but not by the Oscars ecc. since they mostly care about movies and actors than performers. la la land and others are "more loved" cause they're famous and they're the only musicals most people have seen their whole lives; they're praised because they're all people know; of course, ppl who actually know musical theatre know there are so many other amazing, underrated musicals. sadly that's how it is

He will most likely be nominated in the Musical/Comedy category in the Golden Globes and will most likely win too, but he will have a hard time at the Academy Awards when he's put into the Best Actor in a Drama category. He will be going against Will Smith, Adam Driver, Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg (maybe), and Matt Damon (another maybe). It could be anyone, but my guess is that it will be Will Smith that wins.

Why do we play with fire? Why do we run our finger through the flame? Why do we leave our hand on the stove- Although we know we're in for some pain? Oh, why do we refuse to hang a light When the streets are dangerous? Why does it take an accident Before the truth gets through to us? Cages or wings? Which do you prefer? Ask the birds. Fear or love, baby? Don't say the answer Actions speak louder than words. Why should we try to be our best When we can just get by and still gain? Why do we nod our heads Although we know The boss is wrong as rain? Why should we blaze a trail When the well worn path seems safe and So inviting? How-as we travel, can we See the dismay- And keep from fighting? Cages or wings? Which do you prefer? Ask the birds Cages or wings? Ah... Fear or love, baby? Don't say the answer Actions speak louder than words What does it take To wake up a generation? How can you make someone Take off and fly? If we don't wake up And shake up the nation We'll eat the dust of the world Wondering why Why Why do we stay with lovers Who we know, down deep Just aren't right? Why would we rather Put ourselves through hell Than sleep alone at night? Why do we follow leaders who never lead? Why does it take catastrophe to start a revolution? If we're so free, tell me why? Someone tell me why So many people bleed? Cages or wings? Which do you prefer? Ask the birds. Cages or wings? Ah... Fear or love, baby? Don't say the answer. Like, I've noticed that there are a lot of repeating theme's in Jonathan Larson's music, and themes that are shared throughout not just his individual musicals but in ALL of his music, which I just think is super cool and a fun little detail that you notice once your looking for it. Anyway, the point of this little rant is that I realized that this song has the main notes from I Should Tell You from Rent playing underneath and I nearly cried thank you for coming to my ted talk.
