they don't, she has zero authority, she's just a private citizen. all she brings to the table is her celebrity and possible contacts. she can file foia requests like has been done repeatedly, she can ask questions they won't answer, but there's no reason to believe she'll get farther into an 'investigation' than what's already been attempted. she's got no prosecution power, she can't subpoena anyone. she's not an accountant, certainly not a forensic accountant that's required. she herself said her job is to provide an assessment and offer recommendations when her time is up, be that at the first $30K 'check-in' or second round. or third. or however much she thinks she can bilk out of star-struck fools. she's got 72 billable hours to do it. i could have done it for free. given the backlash, there's a good chance, imo, that she'll do her two weeks of 'work' and skip town. alternatively, she can provide just enough information that they already know to convince them to move into the second part of her contract.

I have to be honest about this, but hiring Lori Lightfoot is a waste of time and money. Separating her political career from her legal career, she has an elite career in the legal field. Lori Lightfoot graduated from the 3rd best law school in the country near the top of her class. She worked as a federal prosecutor for a renowned international law firm called Mayer Brown LLP, and she has a long history of prosecuting police officers and corrupt political officials. However, despite Lori's prestigious legal career, the Dolton trustees are wasting money for a couple of reasons: 1. Lori doesn't have the power to issue a supeona for Tiffany Henyard to turn over documents. 2. Even if Lori Lightfoot found mismanagement with tax payer funds, she can't legally bring up charges to Tiffany. Lightfoot has said she was going to turn over the evidence to the proper authorities, which im assuming she means the Department of Justice. Keep in mind that it can take years for these federal agencies to issue a federal indictment. Lawrence Jackson, the mayor of Riverdale (right next to Dolton), has been investigated by the FBI for at least 10 years before they indicted him. The only real purpose for Lightfoot to be there is to present her findings to the public and basically to add more basis to the smearing of Tiffany's political career. But is it worth doing that at $30K from taxpayers? I doubt it, especially when the majority of residents want Tiffany out, and the election for the Mayor of Dolton is less than a year away.
