Andrew Piankovski Painter Russia 1962
“My paintings are almost always portraits and almost always of girls, as I am most fascinated by personality and beauty. They are portraits in elegant or shy poses, often with floral patterns that also echo the idea of something fragile. I like to portray this beauty frozen in time, sometimes pensive sometimes melancholy, further emphasizing the fleeting nature of the moment captured. These Portraits on the one hand depict concrete people, my wife, friends, models, but at the same time they are more than just portraits, as the images are brought to a literary ideal, they are concrete, but filtered through the prism of the Renaissance. Therefore, in these paintings we can see the influence of the classical, European school of painting and at the same time the Russian school of painting of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Only in such a combination of styles manages to catch the balance between artistic idealized image and real life through colorful strokes and colors.”

Statements from Gallerists and collectors:
“An excellent portraitist, Andrew Piankovski successfully connects the modern figurative trends with the tradition of the Italian Renaissance, pre-Raphaelites as well as French painters from the nineteenth century such as Ingres and Jean-Jacques Henner to name a few. His paintings stand out for their psychological intensity, unusual croppings, dynamic and almost cinematographic compositions.”
“Maybe due to his hand excellent skills (ref. previous fencing as sport) he has the “brush and touch” which makes him so delicate and “rough” at the same time.”
