For anyone who has not read Andrew Ridgely's book, do so. It's a great easy, fun read. Andrew's perspective on so many things was super interesting. He talks a lot about George how Wham came to be and their friendship all without betraying confidences. In one profound sentence he lets you know what he thinks about his death. The book reminded you why you fell in love with Wham, their friendship and GM to begin with. According to Andrew, part of the hole in the ozone layer must have come from GM's excessive use of Hairspray!😂

He didn't put Andrew's name on this cos Andrew didn't co write it! George wrote it one afternoon when Andrew was at his house and they started to watch the football, when George rushed off upstairs and wrote the song. George never 'put' Andrew's name on a song to make sure Andrew became rich! The songs they wrote together were written well before they started Wham! They formed The Executive first and wrote for that, and Careless Whisper, Wham Rap, and Club Tropicana, which they wrote together, were on the tape that got them their first recording contract so George would have to have been psychic to know that they'd have a word famous band and become millionaires! This is such a ridiculous story! So many people can refute it, including Shirlie and George's sisters, who named the song Tuneless Whisper when they were writing it! George himself has said in many interviews that they co wrote those songs.
@penelopedewollaston79812 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to see this again, it's such a moving interview. I've seen Andrew talk about George's death before several times, but he really gets so sad here. @catydee62416 ай бұрын
I read a short account of George’s private funeral and there was a cemetery worker quoted. He was standing a short but respectful distance away from the small group as final words and prayers were said over the gravesite. He said that Andrew and Shirlie in particular, were weeping. @@Chillednfunked But they remained good friends, never had any beef over financial or other stuff like so many other bands, so I'm not sure why you're implicating that George would contest what Andrew says. I think right from the start it was obvious after the split that Andrew didn't have any big aspirations for a career in music, instead he just enjoyed the good life. I think many other guys in his situation would have recorded a solo album as quickly as possible in order to capitalize on the band's popularity, probably icluding a cover of some popular song to be released as a single and a re-recording of one of the few songs he had co-written with his more talented partner. Andrew took it easy, put out an album 4 years after the split, realized that it wouldn't go anywhere, and focussed on other things. I've always liked his attitude.

You can see what a sweet gentleman this is in how he approached the shocked lady about why her house was being filmed. "I used to live here and I used to be in a band called Wham." After that she right away is star-struck but the way he said it sounds like he just plays one of the biggest bands of all time like a school band. Really down-to-earth sweet approach.

This was amazing to see. So touching! And even as a huge Wham! and GM fan, I learned a lot of new things from this vid. Thank you!

@@mimilini1 Yes. I don't blame the Woman for being a bit suspicious. They appeared on American Bandstand in March 1983 who helped epitomize the Second Wave OF The British Invasion. Sadly Andrew was to Wham what John Oates was to Hall & Oates, a Partner but not an Equal Partner. Andrew got so much "Shade from folks who said he was riding on George's Coatails.

laminage you are completely wrong about John Oates.
@NorsePJ4 жыл бұрын
@@bhxxbtx exactly. Look at his history both with and without Daryl Hall. He sang dozens and dozens of the leads as Hall & Oats. I think it's sad that so many people are putting shit on Andrew Ridgeley. He's never claimed anything other than the truth. He knew George had more talent and would go on to better things. Still, it didn't take away that he himself also had a measure of talent. George was just up there with the greats. Not everyone can be there. But Andrew and George needed each other at that time and remained the best of friends.

Thanks for another great, insightful interview Top 2000 a gogo! I just discovered your channel about a month ago and have been binge-watching a number of The Story Behind the Song videos. I particularly liked your interview with Yvonne Elliman of "If I Can't Have You," fame. My mom was a high school classmate of her's in Hawaii.

When I hear this music I’m instantly transported back to my teenaged years in the 1980’s. What a time.

That was my favorite “new classic” Christmas song...it came out when my hubby were dating and living in NY and when we moved to Sacramento in 1986 had children I 91 and 96 our daughters loved it too when they were little... when they were teens they fell in love with George Michaels Faith CD...so with my rambling you can see that song has a very special place in my heart it encompasses 2 decades of wonderful beautiful memories...and what wonderful friendship they had! Lifetime friendships like that are special. I can see in Andrews eyes how much he misses his buddy. I loved George Michael too..

I had a class mate in high school back in 86 that looked like Andrew Ridgeley, I was so jealous. Really enjoyed watching this and glad to see Andrew still looks great.
