He would be a "Bully character" who's going out with Rachel, and the other Friends spend the episode trying to tell her what a big meanie he is. Then the plot twist is Rachel breaks up with him just as the other Friends think he's actually a cool guy and they're sad they've split.

The women on friends aren't portrayed as strong either though. So for that reason i think friends is not a manipulation attempt but more an innocent attempt to appeal to the masses to be a popular tv show. We also have to remember they are in their 20s - early 30s in that show. 20s - early 30s = you aren't really a full developed adult mentally.

I've rarely met a 20s to early 30s guy who i'd consider a mature adult male (one who has their shit together, well rounded and with some wisdom included). My neighbour at 31 who is a successful hard working guy shows signs of immaturity. Look at young sports stars or celebs - these are people with access to the highest level resources but yet still their actions lack wisdom, maturity.

There are a lot of manly men out there that do movies but they never do these comedy sitcoms though like Friends. It was entertaining and funny. People get offended over the silliest things these days. And honestly I think Tate is too obsessed with male attributes but it contradicts his own characters. He is an emotional wreck. Getting offended over the silliest things ever. I love masculine traits. One of the best parts of masculinity is to stay away from drama and being patient and only acting aggressively when it's necessary. A concept lost for Andrew Tate. I can't stand my female colleagues when they continuously get offended over the silliest things. Seems like he is no different than most women I know.

Basically most TV shows I grew up with the "good men" are portrayed as weak, feminine and docile while the physically strong, macho and assertive male characters ended up to be the abusive bad guys. What do you think Hollywood is trying to tell the young generation of men? Today we have slogans like toxic masculinity as well being thrown around but never toxic femininity. What does that tell you?
@mealovesyu
@mealovesyu Жыл бұрын
Umm toxic femininity does exist, it refers to the enforcement of rigid gender roles for women, so in combination with toxic masculinity which is an overemphasis of male traits which is harmful to society, both things negatively affect women and wider society in general
@woopazipper
@woopazipper Жыл бұрын
@@mealovesyu Nobody throws around the word toxic femininity. Besides, it's funny how "toxic masculinity" is "overemphasis" on male traits according to you but the definition of toxic femininity is not an overemphasis of female traits. If you wanna call spade a spade then gossiping, backbiting, slander, false accusations and crocodile tears should be toxic femininity since more women does that than men, as much as being overly dominant and overcompetitive is toxic masculinity. But even then, nobody throws around buzzwords like "toxic femininity" to women.
@mealovesyu
@mealovesyu Жыл бұрын
@@woopazipper well first of all it’s not a “buzzword”, that’s a redundant excuse; you just don’t like how the term makes you feel. Which is ironic because right wing conservatives are constantly making fun of people for using “trigger warnings”. Yet you want to ban words and terms because they hurt your feelings and make you feel uncomfortable. Do you seriously not see the hilarious irony and hypocrisy in this? Most right leaning conservatives hate terms like a toxic masculinity because they hate being held accountable for their bigoted attitudes and bad behaviour. Hence why they hate “buzzwords” because it succinctly highlights your lack of intellect, (bigotry and right wing beliefs are correlated with low IQ) and nonsensical worldview, while also acting as a warning to others to not engage with you. Because nobody would want to be racist, or a homophobe or associate with someone who is, unless they were one themselves. As for toxic masculinity, it seems that you have not actually read about it. Toxic masculinity is described as a set of actions, beliefs and character traits, usually traditionally masculine, which reinforce the patriarchal social structure; often to the detriment of anyone that isn’t a heterosexual male. Toxic femininity isn’t stuff like gossiping, but rather the same thing: a set of actions, beliefs and character traits, usually traditionally feminine, which reinforce the patriarchal social structure. For example, insulting other women for the number of previous sexual partners that they have had and claiming that because of this, they will go on to live lonely lives and will not attract the interest of any male off a long term relationship. Another example is acting more coquettish than usual around men, agreeing with everything they say, even if it’s misogynistic nonsense, and avoiding topics like sexual assault in order to not make them feel uncomfortable. Which I personally don’t care about, because the feelings of people in general, especially males are unimportant to me. I do force myself to care about the sensibilities and feelings of my male friends but even then it’s only a little bit. Basically, toxic femininity is being a pick me girl. It’s not necessarily “crocodile tears or gossiping”, despite what movies and media might tell you. As these things usually harm the patriarchal social structure and threaten the social status of males and their control over society and their reputations e.g. false rape accusations (which are extremely rare). Most of the things that are labeled as toxic femininity aren’t actually toxic femininity because they either do not explicitly serve to reinforce patriarchal norms and beliefs, or they are just everyday human behaviours (like gossiping) that all humans regardless of ethnicity, sexual orientation, or sex, participate in daily (and are therefore irrelevant to the discussion). If you are still confused, there are many resources in the form of KZbin videos, books, and academic journals that explain this in more detail/more clearly. I think that you should watch/read these in order to actually understand what it is that you are talking about/having an issue with. Your comment is actually an example of toxic masculinity; most males will comment or get emotional over a concept or event that they do not understand and have not conducted any legitimate research into, and yet still have the audacity to tell people like myself who are well read on this topic, that we are unequivocally wrong. Usually their stance is not based on any critical thinking skill, cogent argumentation or legitimate evidence, but rather emotionality, and false premises; they believe that they are correct in what they are saying purely on the basis that they are a male, so therefore anything and everything they say is correct; they must always be right. And to this end they will rationalize anything to make it seem like it is a logical argument that they came to from much thought and reviewing of evidence when really it was just a viceral emotional reaction to a stimulus which perhaps triggered their introverted sensing faculty i.e. a bad memory or trauma or their introverted feeling function i.e. what they personally believe is moral and right to them. I think this describes and sums up your comment perfectly, while answering/debunking any questions/arguments you might have, whether they were made in bad faith or otherwise 😃
@mealovesyu
@mealovesyu Жыл бұрын
@@woopazipper the other comment was wayyy too long so I also want to add a REALLY important thing I forgot to say 😊 that another main example of toxic femininity is women bashing men for crying, telling them to “man up” (whatever that means) when men come to them and respectfully confide in them about something that is troubling them like the death of a family member or worries about the future etc This is why toxic masculinity/femininity (rly just toxicity in general) needs to be unlearned by BOTH men and women in order to have a society that functions better and where people feel more understood by one another. (men first then women preferably as men it’s harder for them to unlearn and they set the tone for society’s Overton Window i.e. what society tolerates and thinks is acceptable)

Friends is just a TV show, maybe more of the problem is that we're relying on entertainment to tell us how to live our own lives. We're all too impressionable. A lot of the story lines in friends was about making untraditional/unexpected choices and them still being there for each other. It's right in the theme song "Your jobs a joke, your broke, love life d.o.a (dead on arrival)... but I'll be there for you." If all TV shows were tutorials on how you should live then they would be boring as hell. Look to your parents, community, friends, coaches, religion to give you life advice. Not a freaking TV show 🙄

Has more to do with the time period in which the show aired, late 90's. That's when society started to pivot to political correctness and other ridiculous shit that most of us just saw as stupid at the time, but eventually turned things into what they are today within two decades.

We think that it is not the producers of TV shows' job to be a coach on how to be an ideal person. But then again, why does the mainstream media constantly attack Dave Chapelle for being a comedian ? All of a sudden, a comedian, whose job is to make people laugh and to entertain, can't just say whatever he wants to say. Why ? "BECAUSE HE IS A BIGOT. Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia, fatphobia, Xenophobia, Islamophobia, racism, ableism, misogyny and blah blah blah blah isn't funny. 😭😭😭😭" But apparently portraying men as puh-says is funny ? How ? How is it boring to try to focus on both humour and good morality ? But it is entertaining to show and see (like Andrew Tate said) the constant bombardment of all the Trannys and Homos trying their asses off to be funny and politically correct at the same time ? There is definitely nothing cringey and degenerate about that, right ?

I don't see it that way at all. I can't stand that show for precisely the reasons he outlines. You've used minimization and blame-shifting as manipulative tactics to argue against his point. You are exactly the evidence of how Cultural Marxism is so effective. Golly Goober, it's just a show (portraying the "new" feminized men) and it is your fault the producers have written this kind of material (Sex and the City being another of many more examples.) There really isn't a systematic culture-wide push going on in the schools, the media, entertainment, etc. to change traditional values and roles. It's "just" a TV show and the material "poofed" into existence without any design, no objective other than the lovely message about being there for each other. lol. It's just an accident it isn't Father Knows Best. There is a "laughing box" programming us to understand what our global elites want us to think is funny, and it is just as disgusting to me as Saturday Night Live and other not-comedy shows that are just leftist talking points masquerading as humor. They're programming the audience how to think, if you want to be a good little obedient citizen. We don't even have a television in our house, and we homeschool. Because we see what kind of negative influence this culture has on children. Despite agreeing with your last sentence, that does not excuse the engineers of Cultural Marxism working diligently to break down the family and national unity.

Funny how all the male actors in Friends ended up nowhere after the series. And Matthew Perry is just a complete mess of a man right now, and who would blame him when his legacy amounts to playing a comic relief character trying to hide his insecurities behind sarcasm and cynicism. On the opposite, all the female actresses somehow flourished after the series because they were all portrayed in a positive and favorable way.

Indeed friends had an enduring influence. When it was being 1994 to 2004 projected, I was 18 to 28 years old, i.e. I was right of age to see the influence it had on the following generational wave of men and women younger than me up to 10 years. Big difference indeed. By all means one cannot attribute it all to Friends itself, however people also tend to forget that Friends also influenced movies and other tv programmes as well as prepared the scene for reality shows such as the original Big Brother (where men and women lived in a kind of "Friends" situation). People also tend to forget that even if the majority of my generation was not watching "Friends", most of us had watched at least one episode or two, say in the company of college chicks during some Sunday night in house with tv and pop-corn. And then if, say, 40% of girls watched it and about 20% of men watched, these ones exerted an influence to the rest without the rest even realising it. Something similar yet to far lesser yet still noticeable extent occurred with Bing Bang Theory which de-nerdified nerds and turned them to "geeks" back in 2007-2009. If BBT did so, imagine Friends which was fa rmore insidious, propagandistic and of course far more popular, not to mention the countless re-runs to this day.

Even in old school comedies from previous generations you'd have 1-2 imbecilic or overly goofy/sensitive male characters for comic relief, but it was rare for every guy in the cast to just be a complete joke with few redeeming qualities and no overt masculinity. Friends helped start the trend where all the female characters are smart, competent, resourceful, hardworking , etc while also being kind with high emotional awareness. Theh have few flaws and the flaws they do have, the male characters are rarely if not never point them out or best them intellectually. Meanwhile, the guys are the total opposite: dumb, clumsy, sensitive, etc. This pretty much became a staple in Hollywood movies and shows with how people wrote characters and now it's even in more serious genres like action, horror, etc with the women almost always being more put together. And since many people have their personal views/philosophies influenced by TV, they start to live that sort of lifestyle and have thag attitude about men and women. In school and even work, some women just automatically assume they're the smartest and most competent in the room, look down on the men, etc and get shocked if a guy doesn't just meekly put his head down and agree with her. Its pretty insane.

I hardly watched Friends (I'm on the Seinfeld team), but the women from Friends also were weak, with Phoebe missing a few mental screws, Monica having severe compulsive behaviours and Rachel making bad decisions and being emotional. Tate's story is attractive because it follows a certain narrative, but in reality it wasn't as black and white. Friends was fine for the people who liked it (mostly girls). TBH I think the character of Joey is more of an alpha than the character of Andrew tate, because Joey is very balanced and outcome independent whereas Tate comes across as emotional en whiney to me.

It seemed a fairly realistic if exaggerated portrayal to me. Most men are just people with hang ups and issues just like women, not cardboard cut out stereotypes of what society thinks a man is. Being a man isn't just playing a role and fighting dragons the whole time, it's also just being an imperfect and unique human being like every one else. There isn't a man on earth who doesn't have weaknesses and vulnerabilities, and there's nothing wrong with that. We all have plenty of room to learn, improve and grow, and it is a pretty miserable life if there is nobody you feel comfortable and safe enough to drop the act around and just be you for.

Ross was a professor, (geek,) Chandler worked for corporate, Joey played the part of a guy trying to break into show biz, these male characters were supposed to be some what of a push over but endearing and still very much a man at the same time. It was a hit because it did reach an audience of men that maybe never represented, these men do exist in our society, not all men are like Tate but doesn't mean they are not masculine in their own way. I agree with this actually. Friends gave men including myself the worst impression about how to be 'modern man' in this world. All the men in the show were weak and feminine. Also, another bad show was 'scrubs'. It also showed men as weak and feminine. I'm sure that this was all done on purpose to weaken and make us more feminine rather than more masculine. The 90's were my formative years. I was born in 82 but I wish sometimes I was born in 62 or 72. At least that way there would have been better role models to learn from in the 70s and 80's with more real men on TV rather than the 90's male role model's 'embrace and show your feminine side' male role models on the 90's.

How could anyone prefer HIMYM over Friends? The humor in that show sucked ass, as did one of the protagonists. Overdramatic, hyperunrealistic settings. Tasteless. Also, media figures who represent a manly man? As long as we have icons who take care of their family, who care for and participate in a community, and who value the true substantial things in life over their appearance, musculature, and the way they are viewed by others too much; men who aren’t vain, and who are humble, unlike Mr. Tate here, I think we’re good.
