"MasterPiece House set from the Legend Andrew Weatherall"
A Social history... in August 1994 The Heavenly Social was born in the basement of a dive bar in Great Portland Street. The Chemical Brothers and quests played for a big handful of weeks in an atmosphere more akin to an amyl-fuelled youth club than a glitzy mid-90's super-club. Since then, The Social has mutated into The Heavenly Jukebox & now Metalbox and is soon to become a licensed establishment in the heart of the West End. It's been a strange, exhilarating, educational, fucked-up five-year trip to get here, but at least the musical policy remains the same - anything good goes, just bring an open mind.
The third Live At The Social' album features two of the country's finest record spinners:
Always exemplary, Lone Swordsman Andrew Weatherall played at one of the first few weeks of The Social. His set stretched from early Mo' Wax through to The Clash. His visits since have been musical voyages into often uncharted territory - primitive drum & bass, unearthly electro-funk & one of Andrew's current preferred directions, deep, deep house music.
Richard Fearless became the second resident DJ at The Social after Tom Chemical broke his leg in a bizarre footballing accident. After playing a set encompassing everything from pounding techno to meandering Brian Auger tracks to howling Iggy Pop vocals, crossing all points in between, Richard had his shoes stolen. For four years, The Social has acted as a testing ground for much of Richards's recorded output as Death In Vegas. He has DJed at Heavenly club nights ever since recovering the shoes.
So here are two very different mixes by two genius DJ's - get yourself stuck in.
