I like Yang, but UBI will only help in the short term. Exploding inequality is not only driven by flat take-home pay but also 50 years of skyrocketing costs of the necessary ingredients for opportunity (healthcare, housing, and education). UBI helps with the former, but in my opinion Yang's plans for the latter are not ambitious enough to stop those costs from rising. If our economy was a car, it would have a massive fuel leak (money being vacuumed up by oligarchs and locked in a feedback loop of financial instruments). Yang's reforms are like flex tape and UBI is like refueling more often, but Bernie's reforms are like installing a new and improved fuel system. For example, we can't dig America out of this hole without unconditional forgiveness of medical debt and student loans. Only Bernie Sanders is offering that. Whomever you vote for, just remember that UBI requires a strong social safety net to work effectively. Otherwise, the fundamental problem of middle class wealth isn't being solved.

Decline in homelessness. It gives them hope! Think about it..... I'd estimate that MAYBE it is 60/40 nationwide. 60% of people are homeless because they were previously living paycheck to paycheck, were laid off, fired etc. and couldnt find a job soon enough. They lost their home, and did not have anyone to stay with. (Not everyone has family to lean on long enough to get back on their feet). 40% are homeless maybe because they are drug addicts or simply irresponsible. If MOST are down on their luck.. then MOST would utilize the money to find a new place to live, be able to shower DAILY and feel confident enough to walk into the interview and nail it!!!!! Crime goes down, morale goes up, LOCAL communities thrive, people are more more likely to try and start a small business which they would need to hire others to work in, stress reduced, less spouse arguments, student loan debt can easily be paid sooner than later, the list goes on and on.

Could you honestly say there is a better candidate?
@michaellim41655 жыл бұрын
I keep saying this everywhere. People need to look at the motive, incentive and purpose for running. Most other candidates are politicians so their incentives, motivation and purpose is FOR THEMSELVES, not for the country. It's to put another position in their resume. Just look at all of them some how change their campaign ideas and " promises" just because it appeals to more people so they can clinch the vote. But only for the vote, NOT figuring out the solutions. Andrew Yang does the exact opposite as he suggests the solutions first before anything else. Truth and data speaks louder than false promises and one liners. Andrew Yang is the right Presidential candidate FOR THE PEOPLE. I hope people start to realize this. This is why so many establishments and organizations are trying to silence him as his ideas will revolutionize the power dynamics from the few to the many, where it belongs. No more special interest groups. HUMANITY FIRST BEFORE POLITICS.

Universal basic income has been an interest of mine long before I ever heard of Andrew Yang. That is why I think it’s important for Andrew Yang and the YangGang to draw a clear distinction between welfare and UBI known as The Freedom Dividend. One of the greatest selling points of a UBI is that it’s not welfare; it’s not means tested, but a right of citizenship. Every time that it is compared to welfare it should be challenged. Today roughly 20 percent of Americans are receiving public assistance of one kind or another. However, 40% of all Americans can’t afford and unexpected bill of $400. 69% of Americans have less than $1000 in savings. The welfare system has been manipulated by both republicans and democrats for political reasons. It’s designed to be humiliating and some people would rather die than take it. The Freedom dividend is our ownership of the wealth of the nation, which is a product of the labor, of all the generations that have preceded us. There is no such thing as a self made man. All of our culture, art and science are built on the achievements and discoveries of others. No one person invented the I-phone, the computer, the electric light bulb or even the wheel.
@tommy07robs5 жыл бұрын
Yes I am more in line with what is being thrown around in Indian circles which is where the UBI is funded by a set amount of the GDP instead of a set amount of money. So that the amount grows or goes down based on country performance not a flat amount of money that has to be voted on.

It brings me to tears just thinking about how much the lives would be improved by $1000 per month for so many people. It's so easy when you have a personal safety net of your parents to rely on to think that everyone has the same benefits... Truth is most people are living paycheck to paycheck, not being able to handle an unexpected bill without personal bankruptcy. It's easy to think about people who spend their money in less productive ways than yourself; but realize that these people are already struggling so hard that they end up having to do incredibly dehumanizing ways to make ends-meet, things like stealing, begging, robbery, tricking people out of capital, joining gangs, sleeping on the streets... if you want this to stop you do the human thing and provide the bare minimum needed to survive without having to resort to all these incredibly bad behaviours that hurt you and your loved ones.

@WiseWeeabo, did you hear that part about those in prison NOT receiving the Freedom Dividend? It would literally REDUCE CRIME NATIONWIDE from DAY 1! You have to be really dumb to commit crime cause you're risking $12k/yr. Our society would be transformed and be more pleasant to live in. Everything would be lifted upwards and never fall below that cushion.

When President Yang gets inaugurated, I will cry tears of joy. I will probably pass out! I would be so happy! When President Obama got elected, I cried tears of joy and was so emotional because of what it meant in a historical and cultural context of this country. With President Yang, it would be because of what it means for our FUTURE!

Baby Lobster actually a creative idea 💡 don’t know if they have ever had a candidate but would expand his audience. I personally watch that show it would make him even more down to earth
@user-bv5xn4bh7r5 жыл бұрын
It would probably never happen. Yang can’t explain his policies under normal conditions (and no one really presses him to because he’s not a serious candidate), let alone under duress. Also, most of his support is online and well... I’m looking at you GRU Unit 26165. Then again, whose afraid of a bunch of cowards that bomb hospitals? Only the truly weak engage in such behavior. And to think, Syrian political dissidents brought the Russian empire to its knees in such a way that they had to bomb hospitals, schools, and refugee centers. Just... pathetic. Well, that’s Russians for you.
@cameronleon64905 жыл бұрын
Zachary McGuirk well I definitely respect your opinion, here is mine. I feel he is a serious candidate let’s not forget Trump was not considered a “serious candidate” until he won the election, that’s number 1 and number 2 in my opinion building a following online is not the worst place to start I mean it has allowed him to raise 2million in donations in only a week which has allowed him funding to get mobile and campaign in these all important swing states. Also it has put him in a position to qualify for December debates which will only give him more exposure to those Americans who don’t have internet interactions maybe only have TV or radio access. I also disagree that he can’t explain his policy under normal conditions I watched him do an interview with Dominque Wilkins an NBA Hall of Famer after running a pick up game of basketball so again your opinions matter however I don’t agree
@user-bv5xn4bh7r5 жыл бұрын
@Cameron Leon I very much respect your opinion as well. Especially if you are willing to engage in policy and facts. In addressing such things, internet trolls and foreign influence campaigns can help win someone an extra couple hundred thousand votes, but won’t resoundly defeat Donald Trump. Donald Trump has the incumbency and he’s not afraid to use his power to win. That said, Donald Trump only became a serious candidate because Republican voters hate Republicans and everything they represent, they just happen to hate leftists, free-market economies, balanced budgets, low deficients and low national debt, the rule of law, an independent Judiciary, and US Constitution more. 🤷🏻♂️ It’s complicated. Now, don’t try to justify a candidate to me by saying they raised $2 million over the course of a week. Serious candidates pull in that kind of money in a day and spend it just as quick. The only reason Yang can keep up is because he is a billionaire. This next election (from primary season through November 2020) is likely to cost $14 billion. $2 million in a week is chump change and Yang only deserves a spot at the kiddie table. Lastly, I saw it. Not impressive. I don’t care about Yang answering soft-ball questions while playing ball with someone who has no understanding about the US position in Eastern Europe, South East Asia, Africa, the Middle East, South America, or... really anything. I don’t know about you, but I don’t look to famous athletes for an understanding on the US policy regarding the Western Sahara, or settlements in the Palestinian Territories. I prefer to ask people who aren’t training 12 hours a day to put a ball through a ring (or to stop someone else from doing so) and rather ask someone who trains 12 hours a day to advance peace and US policy around the world and specializes in that particular remote area. Kind of like ball and hoop, but peace, the local dialect, and a firm understanding of US policy.

Joey Tobin His most important policy- one that is even more powerful than UBI. Once the people negates the strangle of the political system by big money and corporations, we will see meaningful changes happen fast.
