@@tanneradams20 I don’t think it is a myth as such, but there is a bit more to it.. if memory serves me right, (I’m pretty sure I learnt this on a video about cobras, but I may be mistaken, also if it is cobras, it could also be the same for other venomous snake species too) Baby cobras (probably juveniles as well) can’t control how much venom they release during a bite so they release a lot more, if not all their venom reserves in a single bite.. where as an adult cobra can control the amount of venom it administers depending on the type & size of its pray.. using only what’s necessary to ☠️ without wasting excess.. although some bites on humans are dry bite, if the cobra decides not to use it’s venom, as the bite is used as a warning - to scare off rather than to ☠️, that way they don’t waste their precious venom unnecessary, as it takes time and resources to make more and they will need it for future prey.. but because baby and possibly juveniles cobras can’t control how much venom is administered during a bite, whether on a human or to ☠️ a particular prey animal… they can be considered more dangerous (especially because the strength of their venom is the same in cobras regardless of their age) because they are likely to release a lot more, if not all their venom during a bite.. compared to an adult cobra who can control the amount it uses especially when a person is bitten. Hope that makes sense, I have cognitive impairments so explaining something is not as easy as it used to be unfortunately 😣 but worth looking up if your interested in snakes, there’s some interesting videos on KZbin about cobras & venomous snakes, as well as snakes in general 😊
@toothlessseer31534 ай бұрын
Amazing video 👌 It's called a *KING COBRA* _(not a 'cannibal' cobra)_ Also, these snakes typically eat snakes of OTHER species, so they are (technically) NOT cannibals. _There were many King Cobras around my grandparents' house, in fact one of the largest-ever king cobras captured was about 5 miles from where they lived (and I used to bicycle on that very hill where it was caught).They are truly magnificent._ They are the *ONLY SNAKE SPECIES THAT CAN RECOGNIZE INDIVIDUAL HUMANS.* Also, when they raise their heads they reach nearly 6 feet tall, so they're looking at you at face-level) They also are the *ONLY SNAKE SPECIES* to guard its eggs until they hatch _(which probably explains their intelligence)_ Also, although they are called Cobras, they are not genetically related to the common Cobra.
@toothlessseer31534 ай бұрын
_The taxonomic name of the King Cobra is Ophiophagus (Greek 'Opheo' meaning snake and 'Phagus' meaning eat)_ These snakes (by nature) only eat other snakes. When in captivity, they need to be 'trained' to eat other food (mainly mice). These snakes are so long that they can easily bite their handlers, but they don't because they recognize them. However, many handlers of king Cobras do die by their bites, because sooner or later it loses it temper...

It's a Cobra.. and it eats other snakes. So it *IS* a cannibal cobra. King or False or otherwise.... Good to know you think if I am French, and I eat a Bolivian...I am not a cannibal though! The height they can reach upwards totally depends on the length of the snake. Completely proportional... and only the biggest monsters come close to 6ft off the ground. Only snake to recognize humans ? Many have similar "abilities" such as the krait, rattlesnakes, and other vipers. Only species to *guard* eggs till they hatch is also a stretch, as vipers, and Pythons, and others, are known to exhibit this behavior as well. Snakes in general do not.

King cobra aren’t necessarily “cannibal snakes” like many species of snakes other snakes are a large part of their primary diet. ln fact the scientific name for a king cobra is Ophiophagus hannah where Ophiophagus” is derived from Greek, meaning “snake-eating”. The sole member of the genus Ophiophagus, it is not taxonomically a true cobra (Naja) despite its common name and some resemblance. Though they aren’t “true cobras,” king cobras are closely related cousins of the Naja group, with both families belonging to the Elapid group of venomous snakes.

The ones at the farm are king cobras (Ophiophagus hannah), they naturally eat other snakes. The one shown at the restaurant is a monocled cobra (Naja kaouthia), they don't typically eat other snakes. So either the farm owner or the restaurant or both lied to you if you were led to think that the king cobras at the farm is the same species as what you eat in the restaurant.

I don’t like the fact that they are catching snakes from the wild to feed the farm snakes. That’s bad for the environment.
@PacarnyaAdell3 ай бұрын
The Ophiophagus hannah, or king cobra, is considered cannibalistic because it often preys on other snakes, including its own species. This behavior actually benefits the ecosystem by helping to regulate the population of other snakes, preventing overpopulation and maintaining balance in the food chain. By controlling the number of other predator species, such as venomous snakes, the king cobra indirectly supports the stability of the ecosystem and reduces competition for food. This top-level predation helps maintain biodiversity and the overall health of its habitat. Update* its taxonomic name has been changed to Ophiophagus bungarus from Ophiophagus hannah
@PacarnyaAdell3 ай бұрын
In fact, if there were no *Ophiophagus hannah* or king cobras, the snake population in the ecosystem would overpopulate. They exist to control the number of snakes, and that’s part of the natural law.

While most people understand clickbait and using intriguing video descriptions it’s still even more important to educate others who otherwise wouldn’t know or understand. It’s easy to make assumptions with no real background knowledge of King Cobra’s. So for anyone interested in the facts and why this video description is misleading please note that It is relatively rare for a king cobra to eat another king cobra if other snake species are readily available. King cobras generally prefer a diverse diet of other snake species, such as rat snakes, pythons, and smaller cobras, and will typically only resort to cannibalism under certain circumstances, such as: 1.Food scarcity: If other prey options are unavailable, a larger king cobra may prey on a smaller one. 2.Territorial disputes: In cases of conflict over territory or mating rights, one king cobra might kill and consume the other, but this is not their primary intent during such encounters. 3.Opportunistic behavior: If a smaller king cobra is already weakened or dead, a larger king cobra might take advantage of the easy meal. Overall, cannibalism among king cobras is an exception rather than a rule. They are highly adaptable predators but generally avoid preying on their own species if other food options are accessible.
