For the reason Urdu is taught in the UK, I can think of two reasons. 1. The UK has a sizeable population that speaks the language. 2. Queen Victoria had a teacher from India who taught her about Indian culture and Urdu after she took interest in it during her twilight years. She treated him like a son, and defended him whenever someone was being nasty to him.

I like extraneous letters. For the most part they're there to encode language history information. For example, phone. Is spelled like that because of its Greek root. It doesn't need to be spelled like that. In fact, spelling shit like this can make things awkward to learn for some. But in general, it provides an anchor for pattern recognition. American English just does stuff like remove the 'u' from honor....EXCEPT, spelling "honour" or "honor" have both been acceptable since this Anglo-French word started being used. Honour stuck around in the UK, and Honor stuck around in the US. There's nothing here left over from another language's customs. When it comes to words like phone--these are English customs, designed to remind us from where we found the word. cheers

Has happened to me lately too. Our first pick Khan was like "wtf how" after winning. I was thinking "hmm Idk maybe cuz I played Willo (3rd pick) and they were bad they didn't have any healing either lol". But fr it's cuz it was Frog Isle and that map is trash. Learning spanish is a pain because all words are gendered and the conjugations can be a lot of chaos I do most of it by instint because Paraguayan here, but the moment you start to learn spanish very in depth it's just chaos agony and dispair

I imagine it's much easier to learn if you're coming from a language with more emphasis on genders than English, like going from French or German to Spanish. Of course, English does have cognates which really help out, without those it would be a nightmare!

@@AndrewChicken i mean academic spanish is a pain even if it's your native lenguage because of how extense it can be, sure you're Lost likely already applying most of them rules into your speaking without thinking about it, but the moment you have to understand it is when You simple don't due to to several rules working with other several rules depending on context, time, etc So if you Ever struggle with it (chances are You Will since every Word is gendered and sometimes that won't dictate the pronoun for it) don't feel Bad because you're struggling as much as a native speaker
