He’s a winger, meaning he plays closest to the sideline. In rugby, the hall usually starts close to the center and is passed outside, ending with the winger having to run the furthest. This makes LRZ a good look for kick returns, as he knows how to find the sideline and work behind blocks.

Needed this before the summer series double bill against England. Wales are currently awful but it’s nice to be reminded we might have an outside chance! Edit: after the game today we almost had another addition for the video, shame about the slip! Shaky first half but decent result, far beyond what I was dreading 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

He's very good with his feet, as you can see. Can chase his own kicks and score. Very fast, and he can step tacklers pretty easily. His attacking is better than defence, but he won't need that in NFL. Remember that rugby games are less stop and start than NFL, so his stamina is great to play 40 minute half and still run like this!

He reminds me of this annoying winger I had to play once. They'd just give him the ball and he'd run to the sideline and around everyone. I was exceptionally quick but he was exceptionally fast. That top end speed is tough to deal with when Rees-Zammit is given space. Anyway, after being embarrassed by this opposite winger twice, i did the only thing I could to stop him a third time....a blind leap for the ankle tap Absolutely nailed it, dude faceplanted at like 33-ish kmph and slid for 10 meters on his face and the couple hundred spectators had a good laugh at his expense. My fullback made sure to rub it in too. Poor guy did look pretty goofy gliding across the field on his face with his legs dangling in the air behind him 😆 He had a quiet game after that

NFL lifer in the US. Looks to me like he could make a roster as a kick returner right now, but he'll need to develop a position too if he wants his career to last more than a season or two and a handful of returns. At 6'3" 215 with breakaway speed he could play wideout or slot receiver. Hope we see him on Sundays in America. How cool would it be if he signed with a team with a London game.

@ericwilliams8420
@ericwilliams8420 7 ай бұрын
@@TravelingwithValeman77 More than likely 7th rounder, or an undrafted free agent. Think about Jordan Mailata. He has freakish size, and speed for a giant and he was still drafted in the 7th round. LRZ's speed won't be anything these guys haven't seen before. It alone isn't enough to crack the League. He's gonna have to flash some skill, or some big time playmaking. There's plenty of fast, skilled players in the college ranks who never get a shot at the NFL. Teams do get an extra practice squad spot reserved for 1 international player, so if he wants to make it that's his best bet.

Can someone explain his rugby skill level in American football terms? And is he kicking so defenders can't tackle him when he has the ball? Are there extra points for that?
@javimarulu4247
@javimarulu4247 6 ай бұрын
You cannot tackle a player without the ball. You only could defend the player who has the ball. And you only could tackle under the chest
@luckyspurs
@luckyspurs 6 ай бұрын
In Rugby there's a lot of kicking, to open up room. It prevents the defence blitzing and creates all sorts of tactical advantages and angles. In some ways it's similar to a deep throw in American Football, except in Rees-Zammit's case he's dropping the ball into a space for himself to run onto, as generally rugby teams defend in a line with one deep guy (generally someone who's really quick, sturdy and has sure hands catching a high punt style kick) behind to try and mop up those kicks.

@@luckyspurs oh wow, what he is doing involves a ton of coordination timing and instincts (I presume), not to mention the physical attributes--elite speed, ability to bend and the lateral agility when he runs looks exactly like an American football skill position players. Very intriguing. They say he'll play some receiver which requires a lot more nuance and learning curve than RB. Curious your thoughts on his transition to catching a football would be? Seeing as they are never catching a forward pass at different angles and speed.

Chiefs fan, lives in the Midwest. I always thought in Rugby, you had to kick the ball through the uprights to score? For full disclosure, I'm still trying to figure out cricket too.
@AndrewDavidForde
@AndrewDavidForde 2 ай бұрын
To score in rugby it's similar to a touchdown but you have to place the ball down and have full control. After that you'll have a kick at the uprights to get an extra 2 points. It used to be a hundreds years ago that the only way to score was a kick through the uprights, and you could only do that after placing the ball down - hence why rugby's 'touchdown' is a called a 'try' - as it gave you a try at scoring a point.

1 - You have to pass backwards 2 - If you're as far ahead of your teammates as he is, it's almost impossible to keep the ball if you're tackled, so he's basically got to score or get nothing 3 - The reason they always run to the centre once they've crossed the line to score, is to make the kick easier

@luckyspurs 6 ай бұрын
Cheers. You can run as far as you like forward. A lot of rugby is about breaking the game line, a bit like a running back. Most of the time people get stopped in the first metre or two (because there's 15 players a side and most of them are on the front line; not linebackers, safeties and corners). When someone is tackled to the ground, there is a fight for the ball which requires teammates pushing in behind their player. A bit like a much more organised fumble recovery. The play doesn't get called dead when someone's knee is down after a tackle. The grounded player has to release the ball and physically try to hold off the other side, so one of their team-mates can come and pick it up. Which means, players with Rees-Zammit's speed (which basically leaves his own team-mates way behind) really have to take it to the house or they lose the ball.
