austonianb It is beautiful. But in the mountain areas, with the smaller towns, people can be very very conservative and dont like being disturbed by other "cultures", even though they live of the tourism. But aslong as you dont draw too much attention to yourself everybody will mind their own business.

Great video, choppy or not. Clearly you loved Switzerland. It's plainly evident that you have to be an adventuresome person to do this stuff. You make friends so readily.....you're never going to be alone and that helps. Stunning views of those giant waterfalls and the hang gliding. Only downside is that I''m not sure I could sleep in a room with that many people. Thanks for taking the time to edit this. That had to be quite an effort. Cheers!!

Hey Andrew, I'm from Austria, "Jungfraublickallee" is German and is the name of this street. It means virgin glance avenue ;-). In German words get so long because you add an word to an other for an other meaning. So "jung" is the German word for young, "Frau" is the noun for a woman, but it doesn't mean young woman but virgin. "Blick" is the word for view or sight, but in this context it means probably glance and well, "Allee" simply means avenue. So if you put all these words together in this certain row the word "Jungfraublickallee" is created. The last word says always the general meaning, so it is an avenue, "Jungfraublick" is the moment of seeing a virgin;-). I hope you will understand my explanation, but well, German isn't the easiest language for a foreigner, although many English words have an Germanic heritage. I hope you will have a nice weekend, bye!
@20nine7 жыл бұрын
Well, "Jungfrau" is the name of a mountain. So "Jungfraublickallee" means "avenue with view of the mountain Jungfrau". You can actually see that mountain in the shot right after he says that he won´t try to pronounce the name… It has nothing to do with virgins I´m afraid. :P
@european63807 жыл бұрын
20nine ok, then my logical answering wasn't quite right😅, it would have been so rational I had not any clue that Jungfrau is the name of a mountain, nice that you know that. How did you know that actually?
@20nine7 жыл бұрын
Well, I grew up and and used to live in Bern, Switzerland for 27 years, which is about half an hour drive from Interlaken. Jungfrau is one of the most famous and tallest mountains in that region, you can even see it from Bern…
@european63807 жыл бұрын
20nine Ok, well, that's nice😉, I as a Austrian was never in Switzerland and I know the Austrian Alps but I have no clue about the Swiss Alps... I guess that the only Swiss mountain I know is the Matterhorn.😅 So, in my Tyrolean unknowing being, I hope that you have a nice weekend too!
@20nine7 жыл бұрын
Haha no worries, I know nothing about the Austrian Alps either (except for that they are at least as beautiful as the Swiss Alps). I don´t think I could name any Austrian mountain since I´ve only been to Vienna which is already quite far from the mountains…

The Rick Steves guides are very helpful. The Swiss are smarter than the rest of Europe, so want no part of the collectivist EU. The ChF has held its value very well. It used to be worth 25 cents US, but now is worth more than a dollar,. Glad to you got to see 2 (or 3, though we did not see France in your vlog) great European countries, as Switzerland is one of the most beautiful in all the world. Great you got to hang-glide too. That hostel was nice on the outside, and had a great view, but 12 in one room. No thanks! Stayed in 1 the first night in Amsterdam, andcthen stayed in small hotels/pensions, and it was much better, andcnot that much more $. Sharing a bath with multiple strangers not too pleasant. Europe is great, so now you have some memories to build on. Trying to speak a little of the language in each country is appreciated. Many Americans are such rude and disrespectful tourists. Hope you get to continue with more travels!
