Me as a personal trainer and my knowledge of health and fitness, and nutrition has helped a lot. The withdrawals at this are like a 3 on a scale of 1-10, it's more of the cravings for alcohol that I fight with. But I always keep something healthy and hydrating on hand to kick those craving and or some cranberry juice mixed with seltzer water just to trick my taste buds and my mind into thinking I'm having an alcohol drink.

After a relatively long period of constant,moderate-to-heavy drinking, I took a couple weeks without alcohol. I honestly hadn't realized that I was going through alcohol withdrawal until I looked at the symptoms and evaluated some weird things happening in my body. Fortunately, because I was young and because my drinking wasn't "too bad", my withdrawal symptoms were relatively mild and made more of a rough week than anything approaching a medical emergency.

He's lost his job and a warrant is out for his arrest. Sad.

Day 121 and I got curious. I only just realized how careful the nurses were being and how much they were watching me for something bad to happen when I was in the hospital and I decided to find out how bad it could have been so I did some research. Feeling lucky and blessed at how minor my symptoms were. The only thing that seemed to happen to my was my ability to walk regressed to that of a toddler for a few days (I just could not find center on my feet and balance myself without wobbling) and I lost a lot of stamina. Hoping my good luck continues and well wishes to all who are going through detox.

And if you really work hard to try and reach succes in life there won''t even be time to drink in the first place. That was my motivation and way to do it. Funny how everyone says that I need in patient treatment but all the docs just give me some benzo's and send me on my way. The reason is that I am 26, started at 12 however. I hope I live through this and don't get a seizure, I am all alone.

I came clicking to see what a detox ward looks like. I’m hoping to get help soon. I imagine one who flew over the cookoo nest but is everyone strapped to beds?
@AndrewKimMD3 жыл бұрын
Most detox units are basically psychiatric hospital rooms or standard medical hospital rooms. Generic hospital beds on a medical ward. Nothing special. Just depends on the hospital, how nice or not so nice the room is. Glad you are considering getting some help, try to grow and nurture that motivation.

Not necessarily. All health insurance policies are required to provide coverage for substance abuse including extended rehab treatment facilities. I went to treatment for 90 days in a nice facility in the mountains of Colorado. My total out of pocket expense was a little over $1000 which included my deductible.

I'm detoxing at home alone. Any advice? I've drank two shots a day for for about 10 years. Recently I been drinking 10 shots a day because of divorce.so far I've gone two days without anything.
@bmartinTA3 жыл бұрын
Really depends on your level on chemical dependency. Couple shots a day over a decade or so isn't going to result in severe dependancy for most people. However, 10 shots over a year or even 6 months can have a significant affect on the GABA system which your brain will adapt to after a period of time. This is done to maintain homeostasis and the brain is now expecting alcohol everyday. Abruptly stopping consumption throws off this balance and given the nature of the the GABA system can be medically serious and requires a medicated detox. If you find yourself shaking or having difficulty holding a pen to write or a fork to eat and it hasn't subsided after a day, then you are certainly in withdrawal from long term alcohol dependency. This is where things can get dangerous and is why it is strongly advised to seek a medical detox (Ativan or Librium taper). Again, every individual is different and you may not need a medicated detox. Aditionally, even after the physical withdrawal symptoms subside, your brain still needs to readjust. This can take time (up to a year in extreme cases). You might notice that certain normal activities or hobbies do not seem as pleasurable as they were before. As your brain relearns it will adjust the chemical imbalance to bring itself back to equilibrium. Patience and understanding this part of the process is critical to help prevent a relapse. Hang in there and godspeed.

I would like some insight on the behavioral/mental changes that take place 6 months to a year after quitting. Seems like there would be a "leveling" process where one's maturity and coping skills have to kick in. Drinking dumbs everything down. Are there psychological stages that correspond to the physical body healing? Thanks.

Does ramping down work? Or only prolong the withdrawal symptoms? Im sitting here with an unopened can of beer (half my usual amount and only 4% instead of my usual 8%) trying to figure out if it will help by ramping down or make the night sweating continue.
