Ironic this comment is when you think about Light/Dark because most are happy that you created a surface level description of a video filled with much more words, thoughts & feelings gone into compared to your comment. The irony appears when you compare the idea that you just used a couple of words to express hundreds of thoughts & ideas from someone and people's perception of the video and it's steps are simple and brainless and could be described in a couple of sentences when in reality they are missing the depth of the video with emotions and body language, knowledge, etc. Much like a person shows a single action and most judge that individual based off of that single, and sometimes meaningless, action failing to truly see the depth and beauty behind every action, thought, & idea that comes from this person.

I get annoyed when i see others dumping their litter in nature... should i now also dump litter in nature to embrace this behaviour? I have stopped dumping litter a few years ago, so i know that this trait was also within me one time and i do not see how i should work on this irritation. When I started personal development, I only focused on how I could be better, faster, more positive and focused. This resulted in a subconscious hatred everytime I felt something negative. Even though they were necessary, the first years of personal development, I think I actually became more unhappy. This pushed me to find other solutions to my deep 'problems'. When I discovered shadow work; everything changed. You don't want to go there, but its in the shadow (pain) liberation lives. Learn to accept and love your dark sides.

Hey Andrew I’ve been into Jung a lot for a while and I think you gave a really good introduction. Jung is a genius and underrated but his ideas can be very complicated. One thing though: the shadow side is NOT the dark or evil part of you or something like that. You can also repress very good personality traits. Also those “bad” things you repress have a great value, although not easy to see why exactly. Other than that, really amazing that you went so comprehensive and didn’t stop only at explaining the shadow but also going into how to deal with it. Very well articulated. I’m not sure if I missed you saying it, but this shadow work can take a veeeery long time. What you’re doing then is called Individuation.
@NAHEKification4 жыл бұрын
happy to see someone in the comments pointing this, although I think you are too kind. Andrew does a big disservice to Jungs shadow concept. Would recommend anyone who saw this video and is interested in finding out more to search for The Diamond Net or Actualized's videos about shadow work. This video is sadly filled with misconceptions :(

The dark side, what I noticed in my own experience of it, is also the side of you that has a backbone and doesn't allow people to walk on, nor disrespect you, etc. A side that comes out when angered (mine has came out plenty of times when dealing with bullies in school), and It is a side of you that allows you to overcome fear (have you ever been afraid while angry at the same time? Probably not). In which case, when thinking of the light or dark side, think of Yin & Yan (an equal balance of both, which is absolutely good to have that center of balance; not too nice but not too mean). All in all, the dark side is just as necessary as the lighter side, and they both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

I became painfully aware of my dark side over the last two years due to my pandemic. My childhood was the kind of bad that the majority of it was subconsciously repressed to the point where I forgot what my mother looked like. Through my addiction, I got to see the parts of me I wasn’t ready to understand, in the most visceral ways possible. As drugs and paranoia broke down the rock solid persona I had built, a lie I had told so well I hadn’t even realized was a lie. The way I saw things was merely me creating a powerful filter to make sure I was as likeable and amicable as possible because being non problematic is what saved my life many times as a child. In my core I am an Angry, sad and damaged individual. I see no meaning in life and after more of my persona crumbled I was finally able to break the chain that truly set me free. I realized that I am the product of two drug addicts on the fringes of society who never wanted children to begin with. I wasn’t even born with the simple meaning of being the child a family wanted. I had no reason to be born, so why should I need a reason to live? Why was I trying so hard to inject meaning into an accident? Realizing that the search for a meaning is it’s own set of chains is what allowed me to take them off entirely. It allowed me to set aside all my misgivings and learn to live the way I want to, and no other reason. I exist to exist, and im ok with that

I still have to smile when i remember that KZbin algorithm provided me with someone who pulls people out of algorithms... Second, I love your videos although implementing it into the real life takes a lot of own effords, but hey, we are humans, i do it by myself then. How could i expect that you know my problems?? That's why i leave a like almost everytime. Not because you tell us in the end. Some people would say you only want likes or you do not go deep enough into some topics in your videos, but they forget you are human too! I feel like you show the things, and i have to go deeper on my own when i am interested in it. And that's totally fine. Another point by the way: i often dream of my dark side desires. I dream things i am so shocked of that i hide those things in my braun but at the same time i know it is true, that those violent scenes are a pleasure to my dark I. I have no problem acknowledging that part of myself already. The part around the 9 minute mark shows to me that you don't really know what shadow work is...it has nothing to do with facing the dark side of yourself, it has to do with what parts of you haven't been acknowledged, whether that be "good" or "bad". Shadow work can be extremely emotional at times, so much so that you find yourself crying, but it's not always that way. I see a lot of people bring up shadow work all the time and explain it wrong...There is also the masculine (stoic) way to take care of the part you just found and acknowledged and there is the feminine way. One is with knowledge, the other is with love.

There's also another interesting view on shadow self in terms of cognitive functions. The view that when you're pushed into a corner, you are forced to use your less developed functions because your main functions have obviously failed. And obviously, you just don't know how to use those functions in a mature way. I remember there was a book with exercises for developing each cognitive function. But I've forgotten its name.

1:36 sounds just like an ordinary day for me tbh I have characters inside my head that keep me in check and would often start conversations with me on a daily basis and I would often think that I was going crazy... Good to know that I'm not!

I think this is the first time that I've seen any sort of real, concrete, and brief solution to the Carl Jung version of the shadow self that isn't hidden behind a paywall. And he provides not one but two solutions. What an exceptional person! Other people may or may not have a point hidden in their long ramblings, and maybe try to parrot Teal Swan's attacks on Abraham Hicks, but otherwise don't present such a concise solution. EDIT: Okay, so i wrote this as he was doing the first solution, and then he teased the other solution if we like and subscribe enough. He's only half the douche that other people are.

I have long since accepted that I was imperfect. I have never tried to explore it, as there was no point. Perhaps now, there will be something which I can gain from there... if it exists.

Hmmm....so...what I learned from this is... I'm ahead of the game😅. I already knew this stuff, I just didn't know it had a name or that it a actual thing people need to be told about to do. I've always been aware of my dark side and practice these steps...but no one told me to or told me about it or anything. My therapist DID say I was emotionally intelligent 😅. I kept waiting to hear things I didn't know, the things I didn't know was that it was invented by some guy and made official. I've been told I could be a good therapist or something similar before....I guess they might be right. Throughout the video I was like "I do that though." or "is that not normal for people think about constantly?". The "Shadow Work" that I learned about though has the same name but it's actually something dark in Wiccan culture. I don't go near that stuff for obvious reasons 😅. Any good Wiccan stays away from the dark side.

"If you're at an unstable part in your life , do not do this" Me, suffering from major depression, probably being forced to go to a mental hospital soon: "Nah, I'm good" ;) Jokes aside (tho it's not a joke sadly, lol): Thanks for your videos and this one in particular Andrew! Shadow work, the coming-to-terms-with-your"dark"-side, embracing it, forviging yourself and making the unconscious conscious is so so important! Great to see how this topic is growing popularity over the time- I read books about Jung's shadow work yeears ago and no one around me knew about it; so it's cool to see that it kinda explores a little more now on the Internet!

@@user-ln2kc7yn7v What exactly helped you out of your depression, can you even break it down to one /some specific things? I have huge respect and admiration for people who have been suffering from depression for so long! Can't imagine it man, I'm going nuts even now after roughly 1 and a half years. (Though I had an episode of depression some years ago with 18-19, it just wasn't dignosed)

Be careful. There are a lot of parts your consciousness that are equally worthy to develop and can help you with your shadow. Always take responsibility and strive for moral excellence all the time. That is a lifes task. Life is about meaning not happiness.

Apologies if this is uncouth to mention in your comments, but I wanted to share that I created a shadow work meditation a few months ago for Insight Timer. It may be too goofy for you though because it dips into the metaphysical, but I just uploaded it to my channel if you'd like to give it a try. I am looking forward to trying your meditation when you release it!

@kashyapmehta76594 жыл бұрын
When you discover your dark side and make good relation with it than you will improve following way. You stop hating people unnecessarily. You see for the reasons of hate and remove it from your personality. Your subconscious mind and behaviour will become stable and more stable subconsciousness means more easy and satisfying life. You will also able to see two sides of any situation other than only bright side projected by society.

When you find out you were doing shadow work on your own for about a decade now. It is hard for sure. But it truly pisses some people of if you tell them to reflect on theirs emotions and why they happen. If only more people would do this. I got on this by one way. The reactive technique that is. My opinion is that emotions are my responsibility. Bad emotions I have towards someone ment that person said or did something that triggered my emotions and I started to reflect on them to think why I feel what I feel. You dont always find the truth, but there is many roads you can take and many lead to good places. Start the journey, explore the roads, build a better mind. Andrew is on point (while a bit too dramatical :D) as always!

What a coincidence Andrew... just a few days ago I was thinking about my early childhood and how I was ... a bully too..... our 5 year old class made fun of these 2 sweet and innocent classmates who had Down's syndrome. No one wanted to sit or eat or talk with them because we found them funny in a mean way. One of these kids was in my bus and she often tried to sit with me but I was always rude to her. Can't beleive it now. But some parts of our past are just so disgusting that .... we tend to avoid thinking of it :(
