Hi everyone. Thank you for the views and comments. Information about the short: It was filmed a long time ago by just me and a friend on a Canon XHA1 camcorder. It was my first attempt at CGI. The short was an exercise in learning visual effects and world building. It was a solo effort in the VFX department and I leaned a lot from the experience. Hopefully more to come in the future. I really appreciate all the comments.

Great short! Those that criticize it for lack of story should realize it’s a fragment, or Remnant. Even as that, it hints at more than just an all out action sequence. The character is all question and observation, which is good in the hostile situation he inhabits, apparently alone. He’s more smart survivor, scout, than all out warrior. Because his unit is low on power he has to go some distance, vulnerable and exposed, to explore the energy source. That makes perfect sense, and for the power needed to literally disarm the hostile robot, was a very smart move. Exploring on foot to preserve his robot’s energy was the smartest thing he could have done. Also, the nature of the robots/exoskeletons, are unclear, as hinted by the dead owner beside the apparently inactive robot. That it awoke and fired at the man suggests both a sort of war and some autonomy on the part of the robots. Possibly simple programming, maybe more. It’s something to explore in a longer film. Maybe there is a sort of symbiosis. Why else would the dormant robot stay beside its dead human. The role of the planes overhead also seemed to pose a danger, or at least they weren’t there to assist. It can stand alone or as a teaser for a full feature. Thanks.

Backstory is always useful. But this video is basically the end of something. Now some beginnings are needed for a full on story. There are bits and pieces that are still operating, whether our protagonist survives or not, and obviously we need that material expanded upon too.

Fun little movie. I liked it. Of course he ran through machine gun fire unscathed. Everyone does in movies. Technically very, very good. But am I missing something? The action seems to slow down after he nails the other mech. Couldn't he have been shown scrambling to get the power source out of it? I think the premise that that some of the robots became autonomous as the enemy was simply stationary prior to him "awakening" it. Earlier in the scene, they had located a "power source" & at the end, you see that robots belly open showing that objective.

This video is a prime example of why i cant stand people bitching about studios putting the kibosh in "Fan Projects". If they don't like the fact the studio is stopping them, they should redress their sets, redo the costumes, and put their efforts into original productions, just like you and your crew and cast did. This is a great concept and one you should pitch. This as a full length web series or a Mini-series budgeted like The Expanse or the remake of Battlestar was would be AMAZING!

A lot of people saying the same thing. Like , "Just ignore the critics, like they could do any better." or "And for all the critics out there, where's the movie you made?" As if you can only criticise a thing if you can, and have, done it better. If that were true in the least, then that would mean no critical comments on anything. Unless the person making them can do a better job of it. Although...YELP! would be finished almost instantaneously so... that's a good thing.

And I don't mean backstory, I mean what is the purpose of this film? What is he trying to say or make us feel through the story and it's characters? Unfortunately for me, I felt nothing, nor did I care about the situation and the character in play. But I don't say that to be mean. Just like everything else we do, we learned through trial and error, so whatever happens, I hope he doesn't stop making films.
