At this point these videos are just ads for poligon. When I started watching him he was actually teaching something while mentioning Poligon as an interesting addon, now his videos are literally "create a cube and fill it with assets from poligon"

Back in 2019 your donut tutorial got me into Blender. Thank you for the 100 fantastic free assets. I have been a paying customer of Poliigon on and off for a year or so now and the assets and materials there are always exceptional. It makes my life so much easier as a professional to have an add-on that allows addition of these assets without spending literally weeks downloading random models off of the net, fixing them and getting them organised.

Although I do agree with that, it's good to remind beginners to still model their own stuff to understand 3D first. If someone has a portfolio that mostly consist of third party models, that wouldn't be very impressive at the end.

I've found it really interesting just going away and brute forcing a bunch of blender knowledge and then coming back to your tutorials. 6 months ago I'd have switched this off, but now I basically followed it in real time.. I'm currently doing your anvil tutorial too.. your tutorials can be tough, but I passively learn so much by doing them.. thanks!

I think it would be a lot cleaner if the work was done for the official blender asset browser, so it would have this functionality. It would benefit Blender as a whole... I really don't like how every Asset company has their own asset browser/importer... it's a mess.

The good news there are so many free textures out there, AI is making hi-res textures free for everyone, and you should be wanting to learn to model your own stuff anyway. This dude isn't an artist, he's just a a walking advert for his texture library.

Nice one! Might want to take a look at the code of Sure UVW addon which is excellent for archviz as it box unwraps everything with a typical 2x2m understanding of the textures. It could be a useful additional feature in the polliigon addon. I usually model everything, apply scale and then unwrap all objects with sure UVW to make sure texture are the same size throughout the scene.

As much as I love this tutorial. It really feels more like an ad. Also not marking it as one while having a redirectiong (affliate) poliigon link is a bit weird for me. Since you say "You are working on problems in the plugin " I guess you are somehow involved with them. Please clearify stuff like this before a video so there are no (stupid) comments like this one. Polygon is the company run by Andrew himself if i'm not mistaken. So he's promoting his own work this way and is showing how fast and easy the workflow is when using assets from the library of Polygon

Hmm, any ideas how that neat trick with the Solidify modifier works? Shift+R just switches between Object and Edit modes, and the modifier just adds thickness..

@@fotuoh Hi Familia! Sorry for the late reply! I couldn't figure it out so I rocked it together with a single piece, copied it a few times and applied different Array modifiers to space them as I wanted. I hope that helps!

The difference is 9 minutes vs 1 week. Even more if you optimize the mesh (high poly/low poly/manual uv/triangulation). I wonder how many AAA objects companies have in their libraries.

Not sure why people are upset, the majority of 3-D modelling is doing just this. You fill in with assets, if you're very good at it and have the time they are built by yourself otherwise you're searching and finding them. I've used a ton of Poliigon assets and this is an AMAZING add-on and I can't wait to install the add-on and start building with it.

@@blenderguru Yeah, that's true, but it's also easy to feel cheated when you click on a tutorial, not a job application. Besides, by that logic we may as well teach people how to use AIs since they are even faster. As artists, we are unique, and that's the only thing AI won't truly replace, but uniqueness is mostly lost when we abandon the journey and focus on the end results.

If u wanna work on games environment that's 90% of what you, you take 3rd parties models and put them together in a tasteful way. How is not a good tutorial showing a real room environment workflow instead of convincing a beginner that he has to model every object for months in order to create a single room?

Also reccomend picking up blender kit, it has a similar in-software browser and a different set of free assets, so if you can't find what you need in one asmr browser you can check the other and vice versa
