Okay, I'm going to take on trying to say what is 'Different about YOU' to me and other Reviewers. Don't get pissed off please. .... You do (Andrew) one thing most don't I think that others do in reviewing equipment. Andrew, you take a stand on what you think are worthy of mentioning good enough (the Equipment) to be the LAST thing you might need Catagory, & through Analysis what can give Great sound; vs the minor advantage of SPENDING the CHURCH MONEY to achieve reaching 'Faith Based Audiophile System." ... *I don't know if this is making sense, but* others (reviewers) pepper their views with this is good and that is great and of course it's your trip and such...., you do it to at the end with your TAG line too. Never the less.... I LIKE IT. I think i know where you are coming from and I'm USING YOUR Evaluation (like the LP-140 Audio-Technic) in place of a HOBBY that has few stores to audition equipment for myself. .... I THINK you are looking at the SPECS with the Experience of hearing equipment and saying if you can match items well. You might end up only a few Percentage Points away from owning that $20,000 dollar stereo for $2,000 or $4,000, but much less and only missing something that is marginally (albeit recognizably better) better. It's all good :) GOOD JOB! HOWDY Kristi (not to be left out for her value, but that is another story I think we all know adds real value.)

I can confirm that they play great when paired with Audiolab 6000A Play. I listen to mainly acoustic or orchestral music, but when I feel like listning to some of electronic like soundtrack from "Rez Infinite" or good old FSOL and Orbital I'm being floored by how good they sound. Speaker also really gives you the cue which of your music is mastered correctly and which is not. Recently got melted by how godly soundtrack from original Ghost in the Shell sounded. My room is appx. 16-18m2. Detailed, with great bass performance(Angel from Massive Attack is a best test imo). I'll stay with them even when switching amps.

Great review. Competition is fierce in the $ 750- $2000 range. I love my 600M’s over 2 years ago. To answer your question…. Yes. QOTD: Finish and style is important but not the end all be all. I look for sound quality and target that, then look at style and finish as secondary. I keep speakers for a long time so I take into account where I’m at in life and where I may be in ten or twenty years. Funny note: When I looked at purchasing the R200’s I asked my wife what finish she liked. I was leaning towards the white but she chose black and that’s what I got. Happy wife, happy life. Keep rocking! 🤘🏼🎸🤘🏼

I thought that was Kristi's best reviews. She brought up some great points concerning other options. I know space has a lot to due with bookies versus floorstanders, but at that price point, if it was me, I'd probably squeeze just a little more and look at the R700's. I'd give some on fit and finish for the R700's. Awesome review from both of you.

hello here from Brazil, I recently bought a pair of SILVER 100 7G and I confess that at first I felt a certain regret, they are not (at least for me) easy to position or with a relaxed hearing, the definition and presence of frequencies between 2k and 5k are very prominent, this shocked me a bit as it came from a pair of DM602 S3 where this region is a little excavated, after a lot of research and after watching several videos, I could see that there really is a need to move them at least 30 centimeters away from the wall and practically leave them parallel to this same wall with a crossing point around 2 meters behind the head (it's a different positioning from how it is usually done for the BRONZE 100, these two monitors work and deliver very different sounds as they are positioned), so that the sound panorama happens in a large and detached way, after these attempts and almost the return of the Bookshelf, of an hour for another yes, the MA were born, got big and gave life to the music, another detail I felt (it may even be a placebo effect, or my ears just getting used to it) is that it took at least 50 hours to break the speakers so that they start to emit a quieter and sweeter sound, I don't know if this goes against what Andrew and Kristi felt (my bad English deprives me of details), but this was my experience and now I believe that I'm starting to like and make peace with them, even though they're still not friendly to all kinds of music!
@audiojunior1742 жыл бұрын
making it clear that the definition and presence of frequencies between 2k and 5k are very prominent mainly because of the "neodymium" magnet tweeters, this frequency range gets a little harsh and too penetrating with this technology, even the graph showing a horizon without peaks, is a characteristic of this material, I already felt this a lot in the speakers of guitar amplifiers built with neodymium, and I realized that this feeling also translated into the MA Silver 100 7G

Thanks for another great review. I can say that fit and finish matter a lot if we're talking about a sound system for the living room. It's basically another furniture, guests are going to see it, and so that does carry weight. I'm even debating between a few speakers right now and I'm pretty sure one of them has reached the finish line in large part because of its looks/color. It's two more pieces of furniture, even if they're bookshelf speakers and certainly if they include stands. That has to be a consideration. Maybe not the biggest but not that minor either.

when I was younger and (poorer) performance mattered above fit and finish. Now that im older and more successful, I see value in spending more for something like my Dynaudio Evokes that are just exceptional build quality. I would still choose to have something that performs over something that is just a pretty face, but in my experience, fit and finish tells a lot about overall quality and the type of manufacturer youre dealing with, and what you should expect long term.

Following your previous monitor reviews last year I demoed both bronze and silver 50/100 (would have considered the SFL II but is way more costly here - I thought the difference between broze to silver 50s was a lot bigger than from bronze 100 to silver 100. Ended up going with silver 50s + c250 centre + Monitor in walls and in ceiling for 5.2 atmos. With the addition of a B&W DB3d sub I couldnt be happier, the B&W sub makes a decent system sound spectacular especially with movies. Truly commercial theatre bass in a medium room.

To me fit and finish matters if… it doesn’t jack up the price or is over performance. So as long as the performance is their first and the speakers fit my budget, the finish could sway me on which I pick. The set I have now actually had the performance I want but also the finish I was looking for. Another great video, thank you!
@craigjohnchronicles25042 жыл бұрын
Fit and finish means quite a bit, as many of us are adding these speakers to our everyday living spaces, and....they need to work with our style and decor sensibilities. Would I chose the Silver 100 7G over the Revel M16? Only if they sounded significantly better - and you're suggesting they don't. And we're comparing a $1,400/pair (100 7G) to a $1,000/pair speaker (M16), and the $1,000 speaker is out performing the $1,400 speaker? So then if I was in the range of $1,400-$1,600 for speakers, I'd be looking heavily into the Revel M105. The M105 certainly don't look awful - but I'd gather they're another step up in terms of sound quality. Is the fit and finish of the MA Silver 100 7G worth the extra $400 premium over the Revel M16? I'm not sure. We have the gloss white version of the M16, and they fit beautifully within our space, and the fit and finish is definitely solid - more than you're giving them credit for. They aren't ugly by any stretch - but they are ...safe. And Revel could surely up their game in terms of finish options. And if we're all about wood grain: then comes the proposition of trying to balance numerous wood grains within a living space, which can be problematic in and of itself - so going with a simple white, black, red, blue, silver, or whatever... works better than adding more wood grain in most cases. That said, of all the speakers you listed in this video, from the Polk, to the Revels, to Dynaudio (sorry to see them vacate the Crutchfield catalog) to the Sonus Faber, to the Klipsch 600M II ... the Klipsch are amongst the worst looking speakers in this category. When other speakers look and sound better than the Klipsch, they're in a tough position these days. Making it even worse, as you noted in your Klipsch 600M II review, Klipsch changed up their sound signature for those particular speakers, so they may not have a sound that differentiates them from the others as much as they had in the past. They've piled on to that "tough position", because they still look pretty awful compared to the others in this category.
@hdtvkeith16042 жыл бұрын
Klipsch is still bright and not as linear as the Monitor Audio speakers so unless you do room EQ the Silvers out of the box are better. And the Silver looks are awesome for the price.

Great review! I upgraded from the Bronze series purchased four years ago to the Silver 100 7g plus the Silver 6g C150 center. I immediately noticed a huge improvement in the midrange. For some reason I thought these would be more forward/brighter than the Bronze but that wasn't the case. They are smoother and more refined but definitely not more aggressive. I'm currently driving them with a Yamaha Aventage 90 WPC receiver. Do you think there would be much benefit to pushing these with a more powerful receiver?

Choosing between these and concept 50 - what would you recommend? I understand the form factor and the price differences. I’m looking for a balanced, detailed and most importantly, effortless sound, providing the “realism” in my medium sized living room. Thanks!

I have the monitors and they have fine agility and rhythm without feeling their hurried or lagging. The tweeters are not up front sounding in your face but refined . I've not had these long so still learning their sound . Sound very pleasing to the ears . Detail seems more than the 6g to my ears also .

I agree that looks matter. I'm in my home office for many hours each day, so if I'm staring at speakers the whole time I want them to look great. You know what doesn't look great? The large, ugly black boxes of electronics required to power nice-looking speakers. Lots of upper-end equipment looks great, but low to mid-end electronics are almost universally large and ugly. Personally, I'm thinking of going with the new KEF LSX ii, partly to avoid the huge and ugly receiver/ integrated amp I'd need for passive speakers. I hope you get to review those soon!

Well a small bloody murder happened today. Side by side between the silver 100’s and Klipsch rp600m. Yeah the Klipsch lost a short bloody battle. I really didn’t expect that big of a difference. Damn these things are good. In my 850square foot apt I can easily piss off the neighbors

Thanks for the cool review .🎙MA 500 7G elegant acoustics dissolve in the air when properly positioned almost parallel to the rear wall.7G play very noticeably better in the entire frequency range of the previous 500 6G series, which I used earlier.Another higher level is 7g.🎷

Answer to question: Looks factor quite a bit, but if one speaker sounds better and the difference in "niceness" is not huge, I'd go with the better sounding speakers. On the other hand, I'm really hesitant about even listening to speakers I don't find appealing visually. I had this happen with the Focal Chora line but I ended up having a listen. I'm pretty confident the aesthetic affected my listening impression to some degree as I enjoyed speakers at half the price better. I was willing to forgo the looks if the sound was THAT much better.

Fit and finish is minuscule and that’s only if there’s a contribution to an enhancement of the audio performance. I thought we listen to speakers as their purpose is to reproduce sonics.what do we get from gazing at speakers again? I’ve read,enjoyed and learned from your insightful articles within the past score or so,yet I’m certain I’m not alone in saying”we love kristi and what she thinks”

How do they compare to Wharfedale Linton Heritage? I'm choosing between these two and can't reach a decision. The 100's are definitely nicer looking and smaller but are they as good as Wharfedale Linton's?

I think fit and finish does matter I’m not sure how much extra I’d pay but when you are looking at them everyday you want to like the look of them. Though having grills on makes a lot of speakers look similar so I think it matters more if they either don’t have grills or you aren’t going to use them.
@KristiWright2 жыл бұрын
It’s funny because grilles can go both ways. They sometimes hide ugly speakers and sometimes the make a speaker ugly. 😅

I can’t imagine any of us would choose a good looking but crappy sounding product over the opposite, but at the higher level where good performance is more likely it’s absolutely important you like the look too!

Re: QOTD Well, I’m a lucky turd who has a dedicated listening space that I don’t have to share with anyone but there is a “TV” system that is in our main living space(they used to be called a “Den” if I remember correctly). If I’m choosing something for the “den”, then fit, finish, and other aesthetic concerns get a high priority. In the dedicated space looks are much lower on the totem pole. As long as it fits in the listening room and performs correctly then it can go in. However, in the den where things are on display for any visitor to see, then I do want to choose something that pleases both of us and doesn’t look out of place. I don’t really want it to look like a room that we furnished around a sound system but more like a space where it is inviting to be in if you catch my drift. The listening room is exactly that though, it is a space where the stereo comes first and all other furnishings are placed in accordance to it. Luckily it is in a finished attic space and not subject to scrutiny from anyone but myself and our cats(who have really deplorable taste when it comes to interior design honestly).

Would you use these as a pair of surround speakers or should I knock it down a notch and get Silver 7G 50 instead?

You could but I would start at the 50s.

Fit and finish is equally important to me as the sound. I don’t care how great a speaker sounds if I don’t like it aesthetically, I will never buy them. I have to look at them everyday and they are in plain sight in my living area.

its crazy i really want the m16s, but i cant get over the piano finish. i just cant do it. big miss in my opinion on revels side. wouldnt be surprised if they would sell 30% more if they had a wood veneer or even vinyl wood option
@rosswarren4362 жыл бұрын
In answer to your question on how much fit and finish and looks are worth, I think the answer is in comparing the Monitor Audio Silver 500 7G at $3200/pair (which you reviewed 5 months ago) to the Polk R700 at $2200/pair. So about 50% more in costs on average.

@DM Please refrain from this line of commentary because you are making baseless claims and spreading misinformation that may be damaging to others. I've reached out to you about this in the past and have spoken to manufacturers and distributors about your claims and you are not saying anything that can't be easily explained if you just take a minute and look at the logistics of the situation. Moreover, other viewers of this channel have since said that your blanket statements regarding price hikes are false. So while I get that you are passionate about this (and other topics), let's try and refrain from making not so veiled accusations of impropriety in the hifi world.

As I paid well under $1000 for a 5.1.2 Jamo S 809 system, paying $1500 for a pair is way out of my price bracket. I do enjoy looking at "Armani" systems and your presentation, but the price is way too high for me.

Here’s my answer to the question of the day: finish and design are critical. If I don’t like how it looks, it’s not going to be on display in my room. And here’s something unexpected: while the veneer options for the Monitor Audio Silver speakers are great, I prefer the shape of the grill of the Bronzes. I like them so much better that it would be a tough decision even if I would notice the marginally better performance of the Silvers.

How much does it matter? Ask my wife 😉. It’s the main reason why we have a Q Acoustic concepts 20 surround system. Would have bought something else but she said no. Can’t complain though, got a good price on them and was therefor a lot cheaper then those I had my eye on.
