I feel in my personal opinion you can buy the $800 klipsch Costco speaker set up find a dolby atoms $600 receiver and get better quality and sound for what klipsch is charging. I put my money down on this back in April based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews of the 600 model and a hope that Klipsch would just keep that winning formula and ramp it up to make this the Godzilla of sound bars. Maybe it’ll work in my room but I’m already disappointed and I haven’t even got a shipping notice yet. Klipsch made us wait this long. Another couple of weeks or a month would have been fine for the thing to be really finished. BUT, waiting longer would only have been tolerable if Klipsch had decided to be transparent about their issues with customers. I’m talking Kickstarter level openness. Even bad news is better than no news. Wonder if I can cancel my order still. Your review has me quite nervous now.

I was super excited about this when it was announced last year. I had been burned by Samsung and LG soundbars in the past with dropouts from the wireless rear speakers, along with poor product support (they come out with new models every year and stop supporting the previous years $1,500+ sound bar shockingly fast). I decided to set up a dedicated Klipsch 5.1.2 system in my living room instead and was blown away with the results. It’s a bummer to see Klipsch miss the mark here, but I guess the silver lining is that they still offer some other really nice options. Thanks for the honest review and keep up the good work!

As a software engineer - not even CEO of Klipsch, but just a regular software engineer - Klipsch should have been releasing small app updates this whole time and continuously adding functionality.
@TylerStout3 жыл бұрын
I agree as a software developer as well, even put stuff as beta settings that you have to opt into for them to show up. I know for at least android you can even distribute updates via a beta channel that the user can opt into. However if they were writing a new app from the ground up instead of building off of what they have the whole continuously adding wouldn't work until that core of the new app is finished. That's assuming the old and new apps would be different platforms that you couldn't update together from one base of code. Honestly based on looking at the screenshots from the review the app looks extremely primitive in design so it's possible the new app is significantly different but if it's not there's no excuse except they need to hire some sort of developer or better devs as there's no excuse as to why some stuff isn't there for a product already out.
@SeanVedell3 жыл бұрын
@@TylerStout Or they could get a bunch of High School coding classes to build it for them. I'm not saying I could do it but it isn't so hard that they should have such a crappy app and not have been able to make it work well by now. Making it communicate with their hardware may be another story and an area the entire company is new to. Well, time to learn fast Klipsch. I just spent the last 18 months reinventing how K-12 education works with iPads when you take away the physical classroom so Klipsch making their app work shouldn't be impossible.

@@SeanVedell I'm kind of late to the party on this one (bought some Fives and I'm happy with them, but was wondering about the app) and with Andrew's update after 8/30 about "internal staffing shortages" it just sounds like whatever they had going on that team jumped ship in the current (developer friendly) job market and they can't seem to attract the talent they need. I really wish Sonos would send you a full 5.2.4 Arc setup to review. I have spent so much damn money on soundbars (stupid on my part) over the years hoping to have that "ah ha!" moment that I about gave up. The Sonos gets so close if not hits it on the head to give me that emmersive experience that does a superb job on both movies and music. Two and a half years should have made this flagship the "hold my beer" statement you described. Just subscribed - loved your review of the Lascala's. Regarding the Klipsch 1200 soundbar - you did not compare to the Sonos ARC + 1's + their sub. Seems an obvious comparison; would love to hear your feedback. I'm looking to get rid of my home theatre preamp _ active speaker combo in favor of a simpler setup (for movies only). Seems to me that the home theatre reciever is dying in favor of smarter devices, but I still haven't found a solution up to the task. The SONOS comes really close - you can use in wall Sonance speakers in combination with the ARC and the sub, but you need a new TV (HMDI eARC) and still no DTS... The AMBEO from Sennheiser is not expandable (no option for dedicated rear or height channels). There is still not a true audiophile solution to bypass the old school home theatre receiver. I was hoping this sounder was it, but no deal. Thoughts? Thanks again for a great channel.
@garretts4313 жыл бұрын
i have the ambeo in a 10x11 room with a PC-2000 subwoofer. the sound quality is superb - even without rears you would be hard-pressed to say you have to return the item because you miss the rears. i also have a full sonos arc setup in my family room which is about 20x15 and it sounds awesome. the dynamics is where the ambeo wins with loud noises resulting in extreme details such as glass shattering or cars smashing into each other, and of course horror movies with stringy violins playing loudly and abruptly. this is not to say the sonos arc is bad in any way - just not on the exact level but still very passable.
@dicktater96373 жыл бұрын
The Ambeo is currently $500.00 off, rumor has it that is because it's going to get a significant update, e.g. eARC, a sub connection, Apple AirPlay2, etc. After this HUGE 2 year letdown from Klipsch I would consider buying an updated Ambeo...

Glad i made the right choice with The Fives after i watched your review on The Fives instead of sitting on fence, waiting for Cinema 1200 with big potential disappointment Klipsch needs to focus more on improving the Connect App with more progressive and faster turnaround updates in order to attract customers that wanted a simple setup with their TV. That's the real ease of customer journey when i can have all the settings on my phone and always able to know what was my settings. I too was thinking why do i even install this Klipsch Connect when it's not even giving me ANYTHING to control the Fives.

@@bharathsekar2203 I think it’s a lot to do with the room acoustics and what exactly you’re watching (the media player as well). Could be that Samsung has some inconsistencies with manufacturing as well, but I’m not sure. There were lots of mixed opinions on the subwoofer.

Great review guys. I am a huge Klipsch fan and have both the 400 & 600. Thanks so much for your honest reviews from both of you!!

Tough call, TBH. You could wait and see. It really depends on how soon the bar gets to you, where you purchased from & their return policy. If it arrives, test it out and make the call on if it works for you "as is" or with the Night mode workaround as a temporary fix. The ONE pro in keeping your order in place is that according to a retailer friend of ours, all (or most) Klipsch pricing will increase as soon as tomorrow due to increased shipping costs. This WILL affect the price of the 1200 - something we didn't know until after filming. So in that respect, you'd be saving yourself some money by keeping the order in place.

Shop around for the Samsung Q950T (9.1.4) now that 950A has been released. The 950T is awesome since it has gone through 2 software updates since its launch. Search for a website that acts as a 3rd party allows you to set your own price. It doesn't cost you anything. You name your price, sellers review your out the door offer and choose to either accept or do a counter offer. You are not obligated to buy unless you agree to the final price. Now I'm curious, so for the Bass EQ setting adjustment of +-6, can that be expanded with a software update? The spacefit+ auto room calibration found in Q950A will only work with Samsung QLED TVs because its relying on physical sensors (I think) between the TV and the sound bar system but there is another built-in auto EQ within Smartthings that will work regardless of what you connect the soundbar to. Is that configured through software or hardware?

I am going to give this setup a swirl now that the app has been upgraded. The app has to pair with the sound bar first before I can actually see what the app is capable of, but I’m keeping my hope high enough not to be cine-cal, but low enough to be realistic. We have a smallish typical dutch house so the bass would really be the determining factor here. In terms of features, connectivity, future compatibility and sound quality for not just home cinema but music (important to me) are important aspects as I dont buy and sell audio equipment frexquently. My wife likes the idea of a soundbar and wireless sub & satelites for a more uncluttered look, but I have always felt it to much of a compromise in sound quality compared to a similarly priced component system, well, until Andrew’s cinema600 review. I’ll check in with the findings asap.
