Well said Shaggy - - Spot on! One of my many favorites of YOYOKA's. She was just feeling this one so much. That would be Front Man (of the family band) SHIDO! Another awesome member of the Soma Family! I forget what we were talking about, but I said to YOYOKA, "Little brothers can be annoying, but you really like him, right?". She immediately blurted out a very stern "NO." And just as fast followed it with "I love him", laughing. They are very close.

Radiohead is one of YOYOKA's favourite bands. This was recorded when they came back from Germany during the 'lockdowns' and had to isolate in this house for 2 weeks. Not sure if Roland provided this kit buy having her Pearls was not possible due to neighbors!

I wasn't familiar with this song either when I first saw this video on Yoyo's channel. What really blew me away after hearing the original a few times is how much she adds to this song. I actually like her version better, it really fits the song. Regarding Radiohead, I only ever used to listen to 'OK Computer' but have recently discovered what a fantastic album 'In Rainbows' is!

I have to admit to not being much of a Radionhead fan, but just watching Yoyoka's passion for their music is infectious. The ultimate compliment I can give her is that she's made me enjoy a Radiohead song lol. As for electric drums, they do have their place, but it's true that you'll never get the sound of an acoustic kit of course. But Yoyoka is one of the few drummers who has managed to make me forget that you're listening to electrons and digits as opposed to, well, the laws of physics hehe.

This kid in the background is Shido, her brother. There is a cover of "20th Century Shizoid Man" from King Crimson and "Roundabout" from Yes with him on drums. Obviously he is not afraid of falling in his sisters footprints.😂

Great choice Shaggy-Dog, helpful insights Andrew. I often need to remind myself, she's self taught from 2yo, and discovered or invented techniques while her body and limbs almost doubled in size. Her drum course is fascinating. This is one of my top 10 favourite Yoyoka covers. 😂 I love her whole-body dancing, feeling the music. 💃 She's full of joy and bounce. We can hear that energy in the sound she creates. Is that a paradiddle after 6:38, or has it another name? I was worried her headphones were about to fall off. I get a stupid grin watching this 😆. It's *not* a note-for-note cover. It is a very 'cinematic' scene. It reminds me of the funny perspective joke 'phone scene' in the comedy film "Top Secret". AFAIK, this was 'in isolation' returning from travelling abroad, during Japan's 'stay home'. She wasn't at home with her acoustic kit. I think I read Roland loaned her the e-kit, and she played it at a Roland event a few days later. Best Wishes, and Thanks to Shaggy-Dog. ☮

Too fast for me to see at 6:38 but Andy's shirt is definitely a paradiddle 😄
@gbulmer7 ай бұрын
@@Rob-Yule Thanks for the reply. I was reasonably confident Andrew's shirt depicts a paradiddle (maybe I've even seen a video where he explained it). That's partly what inspired my question. Even at 0.25 playback speed I wasn't sure it was that paradiddle pattern. It sounded like it, but I don't know if there are several patterns with double strokes, and some have other names. Anyway, Thank you for Replying, and Best Wishes. ☮

Great reaction! I enjoyed your explanation regarding the difficulty of playing drums and sounding great. Finding one's own groove definitely takes time and is not easy. I love Yoyoka's energy when playing. I wish everyone had that much fun! I have a song request. I don't have $95 to spend to guarantee it, but I think you and your viewers will absolutely love it. Plus, you are a supporter of Drumeo and this video was shot at Drumeo, with the drummer who recently won three of their awards including Best Drummer of the Year. He goes by the name of 2 (ii), and is the drummer for Sleep Token. You did a reaction to one of his drum playthroughs about a year ago. For this performance he does a song playthrough for their track "The Summoning", with lyrics, including a drum solo in the middle. The guy is gifted beyond words and displays the kind of playing you talk a lot about. I guarantee it will blow your mind Andrew! IIRC: Yoyoka's parents were in a band, which is where she watched the drummer. And so, her family still plays live performances as just the family... Sometimes it is Mom on bass, Dad on guitar, and Shido singing... Sometimes it is Dad on bass, Shido on guitar, and Mom singing... sometimes Shido is on drums. ...and per a comment somewhere (unverified / probably untrue): Madoon(bass) may be in her Dad's family and maybe introduced her parents to each other. if true, that's pretty cool - but low confidence on that one. Very talented family. ...and seems like a fun childhood!

Interesting comment. I do not have a musical bone in my body and am as far away from understanding music as one could be. I honestly thought the same to be honest, that drummers were the least talented in the band and drumming was just a glorified blacksmith lol....Since becoming a fan of Yoyoka interestingly enough, and watching hundreds of videos by now, Im realizing now just how complicated drumming really is. Really have developed a new appreciation for the art. Great explanation and video.

Pay attention to all those shifts and movements in her body, upper body, arms, angles she hits the drum, the cymbals, hi-hat - all that; all that puts her apart. She wants a certain twang to her sound, she knows how to get it. (This might be the video she is as loose as rarely else.)

You talk about the joy of hearing old drummers that record 'live' and the comfort they have in speeding up and alowing down with tbe band. Wjat drummers do you think have the most natural in the music feel for time of the people featued on the channel? Oh and could you react to aome james brown? Or more likely analyse some of his live stuff. The meters, toots and the maytals, parliament anything groovey could be nice.

Another one of the building blocks which got her to where she is today as this is proof of concept for her. Regarding what you said about covers, there are two young girls who are frequently compared with Yoyoka who do primarlily covers, but only a fraction of stage time when compared to Yoyoka. When you listen to their covers, they are out of the pocket, lost the beat of the song, going behind the beat and then ahead of it. Plus, messing up on the fills. Yoyoka makes what she is doing look easy with her 5as but it's not.
