You're correct on connections being major and a big part of the wealth inequality. It's not just a wealth inequality, it's a social networking inequality. I have a friend who's parents were both teachers, which is considered rich from my poverty level, and they had a nice two-story house with a pool and could afford to pay for membership to a country club for their kids. My friend was a complete loser. As big of a loser as you can imagine. As big or bigger than me. Didn't graduate high school, went to community college for a decade without getting a degree, 30+ year old virgin, lived with his parents up until then, etc. Doesn't matter. Country club membership got him connections with people who could get him a great job paying him 50k+ a year starting without a degree (he also lied on th application). That's the power of wealth inequality/social networking inequality. If everything else is equal, it will be a boost. This is why extreme right wing people are being dishonest in their debate about minorities pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. Doesn't work that way.
