Those look like blanks the OEMs would get and then finish milling them to produce the final product. I miss the MT blade/cavity models they used to produce. I'd still support them before the ridiculous brand names trying to rob people blind with their ridiculous pricing of clubs. Golf doesn't need to be that expensive. Glad to see companies like MacGregor offering people affordable options.

I play with McGregor NVG two irons for many years ago and they still do OK for the occasional play that I get would be more than please to get an updated set of McGregors for a fair price. I don’t play enough to spend over $1000 for a cent of iron but I play well enough to buy a decent set of irons. I’ve been able to keep my handicap under 10 with just a few rounds every year using old McGregors so hopefully the new ones will perform the same.

I remember the MacTec driver back in the day. I thought Macgregor had a driver that had an inverted "ball" shape impression in the bottom of it that they claimed made the ball go farther. It was really weird looking. Man I have to go get fit. At the bottom of the bag I am right there. My pw goes 135, 7 iron is in the 173 range, but my 4 iron just shy of 200. Your hitting it 219, that's a big difference from mine.

I bought the MT-PRO irons 2 seconds after they were released. Like to see you review the MT-PRO and the MT-86 for that matter. I grew up with MacGregor and hope they come out with the mid/late 70s VIP irons "modernized". So to answer your question YES they are in the bag and will stay there unless we see an updated 70s version of the VIP blades. I also have a late teens set of wood shafted MacGregor's. They are the OA model ( of which most contemporary clubs copied). I also have a set of the MacGregor wood shafted TOMAHAWKS and 67 VIP blades.

@@jerroljulian Love them! The quality of the clubs are top tier and the price is crazy low for what you get. Before these I had the Pro-C MacGregor irons and their woods. This was a set MacGregor made prior to be bought out by Golfsmith. Funny story. When MacGregor first came out with metal woods and a 460 cc driver I bit of course and the first drive using them I nailed it on a par 5 and had 260 yards left. I hit the three wood which in turn hit the pin stopping about 10 feet left/past. Made the putt :)

It’s almost like the offset is progressively the opposite of most iron sets. The other option you could have is to bend the pitching wedge a degree or two weak and get rid of the offset.
@Alandale45
@Alandale45 24 күн бұрын
Nothing happened. The offset in the pitching wedge is consistent with what you get in the vintage 1968 MacGregor MT Muscle back Split Level Sole by MacGregor which I still play. If these are anything as sweet as the vintage set, I will definitely add them to my collection. Thank you MacGregor for keeping the heritage going.

As long as it doesn’t affect your distance you could put it in a lie machine bend it 2 degrees more loft will push the leading edge forward will take out some offset. See how you like it definitely cheaper than buying a new wedge.

What kind of golfer would these benefit? I shoot in the mid-80's most of the time, and only play maybe 10 times a year; would these be beneficial to a player like me, or are they difficult to hit consistently? I know the video has a mention of forgiveness, but is that forgiving for a pro or forgiving for a regular player like me?
@andrewjensengolf

I think they would absolutely benefit a player like yourself. The forgiveness is great but it would likely give you more feel and feedback than you’re likely used to, thanks to the forging and milling of the heads

At the price point you can't really go wrong. Looking at their website they have options for shafts, grips, length and lie adjustments. I suspect these Chinese milled clubs are shipped statewide and then adjusted in the states before shipment if you get something non-standard. Nothing at all wrong with that model. I suspect the other DTC brands do the same thing.

It may be bad quality control. For example, perhaps the wedge head was a couple of degrees too weak and then bent to spec. Bending an iron stronger adds offset.

The performance of the wedge doesn’t lack, it’s just visually very “off”… so I don’t think there’s a reason behind it all, as I’m sure many many golfers wouldn’t see the offset so glaring to their eyes. Like I said, I’ve enjoyed playing with them and can see them staying in the bag for the time being. Performance is king, and they’re working for me 🤷🏼‍♂️

Many of the old timers ( Palmer, Player, and several others ) said Jack played with Inferior MacGregor equipment and balls , and said if he had gone with a better brand, he would have won many many more Majors and tournaments than he did. He was so good they said he basically overpowered the bad and made his equipment work. Even my granddad wouldn't play MacGregor equipment, my granddad played Kenneth Smith and Spalding clubs. I still have my custom-fit Kenneth Smith forged blades, they still play very well today.

Macgregor was the # 1 club in golf thru the 1970s. They were sold only thru pro shops until the were bought out by Burke and then. Mass marketed in box stores. Some of the technology you see in Todays irons was used first in Macgregor clubs during the 2000s. Cup Face technology was used on drivers and irons sold in the 2000s. Believe it or not milled grooves on iron and wedge faces was first developed and used by Macgregor not Titleists Vokey wedges. For some reason they didn’t patent those developments. Jacks equipment, other than the ball was some of the best equipment of the time built and designed by some of the best clubmakers of the time such as Tony Penna and Tommy Armour.
