Andrew you read my mind!! These loose brush strokes are what I'm aiming to achieve...to get away from the tight tense detail that holds me down. I really like this new loose style you are going for....not so photographic perfect......way to go! Look forward to more 'loose' tutorials.

Hi! I'm a new painter and stumbled onto your excellent videos. The dragon - awesome! Alien sheep-napping - even better! I'm a horticulturist and I always tell new staff that while we work really hard, our work should also be fun. Thanks for sharing that bit of fun, humor, curiosity, and passion that every craftsperson should have. As a beginner it's easy to become frustrated and you've reminded me that painting is an enjoyable process that, with lots of practice, will improve with time. I also used to fence so of course I ordered some dagger brushes - watch out, canvas! Again, thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge! Doing these videos must take a lot of work, aside from producing the paintings themselves. Much appreciated!

I love that you speed up your painting while explaining what you do over the video. Other painters can show every brush stroke in real time and it's hard to stay awake- but you have just the right amount of energy! You truly know how to teach on video. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

Man you got me cracking up here, you're too funny!🤣😂 I love this new approach you're adopting, I personally prefer a painting that is realistic enough that you recognize at first glance what the subject matter is, but looking up close certainly reads as a painting! That's the way I like to paint, since I'm just starting to develop my style I call it eclectic - enough detail, but plenty of personal expression! Regardless of which style you do go forth with - you are my favorite painter, you work with passion, integrity and individualism, so my dear sir LOOSE away!! Side note, this past week was my first as an art student and one of the professors handed a questionnaire asking who was our favorite painter, mine Andrew Tischler!! If they did not know you on this neck of the woods, they will now! Warm regards!

I love this painting style you have in this video. By painting a little more impressionistic and leaving some brush marks, you do put in more in the painting in terms of the feel and the experience you had in this place. For me the most beautiful paintings have this fine balance of detail and loose brush marks, specially in landscape paintings. I hope one day i can see your work in person.

Love your finished painting.... certainly a change form your photo realistic paintings which I have always loved, but like any paintings that have a loose style when you look from just slightly back, it seems all that detail is more than enough, still looking realistic enough, without looking like a photo, you will save heaps of time too! Get lots of time to fit in more commissions too ! Beautiful....I would love to be able to achieve your level of painting .....practice and practice ..... I have a long way to go ! Congratulations on another beautiful finished piece !

You really achieved that depth! I felt like I could take off running and just fly across that meadow with you. You have such a wonderful, natural instinct. What really blessed my heart, since I am a “fixer” kind of person myself, is that you weren’t fond of what you had put on that canvas first so you set out with abandon to improve this piece. And you did it! It went from being pretty darned good to being a stunning masterpiece. I was a little worried at first about that tree taking over the canvas but you gave it such a wonderful personality that it was perfect. Sheep are some of my favorite subject matter-I love painting them, too. I can’t wait to see what you are going to do next!!!

I guess I’m late in viewing this video especially considering when it was filmed. I am a beginner painter, but already I’m aware that to loosen up my painting style is essential. This video amuses me because I can see how difficult it is for Andrew to be a loose painterly artist. Since I am a hyper detailed person I understand the thinking process. Andrews attempt is quite lovely, but still compared to the expressionist artists of today, his painting is VERY detailed. But hey if that is his style, accept it and even embrace it. He’s a brilliant painter and the fact that he can put that much detail into a painting is amazing! Andrews work is ALWAYS amazing.

Really enjoyed this vid, Andrew, as I've painted for some 30 years now and have always used a very limited pallet, bending colors and using no medium, other than mineral spirits in tiny amounts. I paint very loose, in the style of the great George Inness and use the sides of my brushes and pallet knife and fingers to blend colors and images. Although I respect realist paintings, many seem pointless to me as they might as well print a photo on canvas which we, as oil painters, can create images that only we can create that are completely unique to our medium of art. Great job and thank you! I'll look at buying some Tish's.

Just starting to learn oil painting. An initial tendency is to work towards producing a photo image.
