I didn’t know that, super cool. It’s from “The Misfits” her last movie. I know the song is about washed up stars, but is THAT the relation to Marilyn Monroe? Was she a “washed up movie starlet?” If she that’s news to me but makes sense then, I always saw her as being taken during her prime. Perhaps the reference is deeper than that? Reading your comment had me looking further into this. The song has the lyric, “Faded Pre-Madonna,” which by definition means; a vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team. This definition fits Marilyn Monroe pretty well. There’s no shortage of documentaries and films about how difficult she was to work with on set.

@@AndriyVasylenko Fair enough. Though, give a listen to “No Leaf Clover” (5:40) and “Bleeding Me” (0:01). You’ll hear that exact same “woot” or whatever. ANDRIY!!!! I hope you read these comments!!! I can absolutely confirm the mystery guitar part on Orion! First of all 28 years ago, I bought that tab book, I was always able to hear that part with headphones, but it really came to my attention when I did an acoustic cover of Orion in 2006 - Basically I ended up, figuring it out exactly the way you are playing it in this video (The exact variation that you play in this video, not the other variations that are in your Orion video, which I’m going to post this comment there to increase the chances of you seeing this LOL) so here it is - I was working download festival And I was there for the sound check And to cut a long story short after they had blasted through a song from hardwired (I forget which one) Someone on the board said something about the clean guitar and James patch switched And just when he started messing around, finger picking something, robs guitar tech started to play the Orion middle section part - not unusual …HOWEVER for about less than 10 seconds James played THAT part with his clean tone! I was FOH and my head span so quick to see it I nearly give myself whiplash (no pun intended) I couldn’t see for long enough but I heard those exact notes And I could see his hand was in the same position on the neck, He called my attention quickly because I had been messing around with pretty much all of the same variations that you were doing. When I was recording it, and I settled on exactly the same thing you are playing and basically just like me you have over thought it on the very first thing you thought it was… It was. It’s 100% the way you’re playing it, I heard it isolated, saw the neck position, heard it from James himself albeit for seconds, but it was there! He just gave the tech a smile, and then stopped playing it - This is one of those things that I never thought anyone apart from me would give a shit about, but just like you, I have had that thing for most of my life about playing the songs as accurately as possible and it’s always been an annoying mystery to me how difficult some of the songs are to get the actual correct notes figure it out - Anyway, I really hope you see this and you can put a line under this one finally ha ha. Any questions or anything like that you may have you can hit me up broski! Cheers 🍻

One thing I really dig about your videos, your are clearly a huge Metallifan, yet you aren’t afraid to criticize or offer different opinions. So much of online fandom in America, if you don’t worship as Gods, sycophant type fans really go apeshit on you. Megadeth fans are the worst man, if someone honest about Dave’s behavior they’ll threaten to wack you. As Metallica and Megadeth fans, respectful disagreement and debate, w band members or fans, it only adds to the back and forth and knowledge of bands we love. Imo, your work stands out and offers something more because you don’t treat them like sacred cows, like Gods, though your admiration and respect is obvious. I feel like Metallica would have more successes than misses if they were less insular and heard more honest opinions. Megadeth especially, Dave makes the same album & lyrics over and over, a caricature of a cartoon of Megadeth. Yeah I still support, but brutal honesty would make a huge difference. Rant transmission complete. PS I hope Ukraine war over soon brother

I want to hear your opinion on the breakdowns from the band's music. But most of all, I love Master Boot Record - Dram Reboot 0. I believe it can be classified as having a breakdown, the climax of which starts at around 2:19 (but still, I recommend you don't skip right to it; what comes before it is totally worth it). Please give at least this song a listen, and let me know. I find this to be the heaviest of the fastest music I ever listened to, I believe).

If you put Until It Sleeps and right after King Nothing you can hear a little bit of the outro in King Nothing that make it look that they recorded one after the other (obviously no, bit it reminds me of Pink Floyd that all the songs on The Wall start in the finish of the past one)

The shotgun being loaded on 'Don't Tread on me' as well, always a class Easter egg. What was the "mummy where's fluffy" thing on garage inc about while we're at it haha. Love Metallica! \m/

Somewhere in the Suicide&Redemption muffled vocals I can hear a "Cthulhu", which was also the working title for the song

I remember hearing Fleming talk about the backwards guitars too and mentions the Battery into but it seemed like he meant to say Blackened and just said Battery by accident. Listen to that interview again if you have it. He meant to say Blackened. I’d bet $100!

I swear, all these accidental mistakes and stuff that became legendary... It's like there's some other supernatural force in charge of who gets famous, and who becomes a band like Anvil.

i believe the “mistake” in the breakdown of leper messiah was intentional. the crunchy sound is exactly what the breakdown needed! cliff was classically trained and was likely familiar with the “evil” sound of the minor 2nd.

Do not know if you included this in you more in depth video, in what may be my all time favorite Metallica song, Suicide and Redemption, at 6:14 to 6:19, it sounds like somebody is talking through the pickup, along side the weird sliding, just before the solo. To me, it just sounds nasty, and slightly evil. I just love it.

Yes! It seems somebody screams ‘Hetfield’s got it under control’ - and then James’s solo kicks in. I thought it was just me hearing this :-)

Using anvil as bell comes from Black Sabbath track with really cool name Black Sabbath, you know. At least I think It's possible that James/Lars heard it there and wanted something like this on their track.

If you listen to Fade to Black at 1:19 very closely, you'll hear a sound that appears only at this particular moment. When I was 16, I thought it was a car alarm sound recorded haha. Sounds more like guitar slide. That is apparently not an easter egg, but is still interesting.

Cellist here. About the part you mentioned in Until it Sleeps: that does not sound like cello tbh. It feels too “electric” or guitar-y to be a cello part. Love the video man

Here's another Easter egg - there's a hidden bass part by Cliff in Leper Messiah, just after the guitar solo. You can hear it most clearly in the Rough Mix from the MoP box-set, but I've tried to recreate it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/babQqo2Kn7GUpZI
