on my ford focus 2 (EU) it works without any adapter. on my quadlock connector on the car side i have swc+ and gnd. just connect this 2 wires to the HU to key1 and gnd (and gnd is important). For the cars that have 3 wires you will use also key3. some of the cars does not have resistive steering wheels controls, instead it will send via can communication the digital signal when you press the keys. In this case a canbus decoder is usefull (also it will decode when door is opened, AC temp, etc). the most common problem that peoples will do is to cut key1 and connect on the head unit and forget the ground wire (on head unit). on most android head units the ground for SWC must be connected to the car ground.

I have a Hizpo Android stereo and its in a 2001 Nissan Xterra i found this connector in the radio area with 2 yellow wires in it and hooked it directly to K 1 and K 2 and did the menu where you select the vol up button on the car stereo and the vol down mode ect then press the steering wheel controland it wont recognize anything, the very poor installation directions said i may need to turn this Cam Bus system off or can bus, i love the unit but the wires and the colors on the radio were not the same , i needed a pink wire or the reverse light trigger to turn the rear cam on well its actually light brown on my radio, i guess i need this box here.

I use a Pioneer right now in my Volvo V70N, but I have a Joying on it's way home. The adapter harness that i use between the iso-cables and the factory harness have two loose cables named "Can" and "Can low". Figured out that ControlPro had messed up, they said that I should use Can (Pink and black, data input 1) but Can-low (Pink data input 2) worked connected to the cable marked "Can-low" on the iso-adapter. My questions are, if I connect the Can data input 1 to the Can cable that's not used on the iso-adapter, will my Joying get more info? Like open doors and stuff like that? Or will I be able to get that info with just the Can data input 2? Which pin did you break off on the 3.5mm jack? Ground?
@1999TransAmWS64 жыл бұрын
No Joying wont be able to do any of that. It's just like a standard tablet. The best you can do with Joying is steering wheel controls, and get the tire pressure adapters plus a OBDII adapter. That's about it. I know pioneers can do lots of stuff like that with the Maestro adapter

So, on my 2018 F150, I'm using a different SWC module/android HU and I cannot have *both* the *answer* function and *mute* function in the HU programmed to two separate buttons on the steering wheel at the same time. Otherwise they will either both function as mute or if the *answer* key has been set first, the button will function properly and answer calls as intended, but the *mute* function will think it's already been programmed. So I can have one and not the other. It's really odd. Because I'm using Insane Audio's SWC module and Stinger's HEIGH10 I can't get any support. I would have to buy PAC's SWC module/dash kit which would run me another $450. Bleh...
@1999TransAmWS64 жыл бұрын
I have another Joying in my 2015 Acadia and use the Maestro AWSC-1 SWC module and have the same problem. The Play/Pause and the Next Track on the steering wheel put out almost the exact same resistance through the AWSC-1 so the Joying cannot tell the difference and thinks its the same button. It's actually pretty common. So I basically just have 2 buttons on my steering wheel for Next Track. That doesn't bother me that much but what does is the AWSC-1 seems to drift a bit each time the car is started just for the Volume up and down. So sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can reprogram the new resistance in the Joying but then it'll go back to the original resistance after a few car starts. It's definitely not the radio because I've tested it with a multimeter and it's definitely the SWC module.

One part I forgot to mention in the video but I have in the description is the Pac unit itself has to be programmed to your steering wheel controls. @1999TransAmWS67 жыл бұрын
Sandra R All android radios (joying, pumpkin, and others) are oversized double din. They'll all be too big for any bezel including the Metra. Most people cut to make the bezel opening slightly larger. I bought the joying without any volume knob so I installed it behind the Metra bezel and shifted it slightly to the right so the touch screen buttons are accessible. The bezel you listed is the same one I used.

Can I ask. my head unit had a cable that says "reverese". This is for the reverse camera to come on when I put my car into reverse but I'm not sure where I actually plug it up to. any ideas?
@1999TransAmWS68 жыл бұрын
Reverse is the 12V positive wire input. So basically when it detects 12 volts positive, the screen on the radio switches to rear view camera. The way I hooked up my car was I tapped off one of my reverse tail lights. I have that connection running to the camera positive and the reverse wire on the radio. I took it one step further and installed a time delay relay but that's not necessary. I didn't like when you go from park to drive, you have to go through reverse so the screen would flash to the rear view camera for a second. My time delay relay is set for 3 seconds so I never have this problem.

That's great thanks. My reverse camera and transmitter are hooked up to one of my reverse lights and I had a sneaky suspicion I had to do the same for the radio. correct. On the PAC adapter, the output is a 3.5mm plug so I just bought a 3.5mm jack from radio shack and soldered it on to key 1 and key 2. Made it easier to remove if you change radios.

I am about to install this same set up. Tell me if I under stand this right, on the SWC module the only wires I need to worry about are the red, ground and accessory power. The other wires as not used. I can basically solder the red black and accessory wires together with the joying wires, right?
@1999TransAmWS66 жыл бұрын
It depends on what type of car you're installing it in. Every car type has a completely different installation and initial setup and programming. You have to follow the instructions that came with the PAC module. The only difference when installing with the joying is adding the 3.5mm plug to key one and key two like I show in the video.

@@airbornetrooper1356 for your car the PAC needs 3 wires to hook up besides the 3.5mm cord. Red to ignition, black to ground, and green to the signal wire of the factory radio harness. The wire on the factory radio harness is blue I believe and will be all by itself. You still have to program the version number and controls to the PAC stated in the instructions.

I have a 2013 Nissan Altima.....so you're saying if I install my head unit without the PAC, then it wouldn't work? Even though Joying just says connect the steering wheel wire to key 1 (and/or key 2) and then ground it.
@1999TransAmWS68 жыл бұрын
It depends on the output of your car. If your car puts out a resistance value then you're okay. I'd say 80% of the cars out there don't and require an adapter like the PAC. If you have a multimeter you can always check to see if your car outputs a resistance when you hit the keys. You can always just try without it and if it doesn't work then buy a PAC module.

Has anyone tried this on a Joying Intel (Sofia) VW head unit? I have aftermarket steering wheel buttons that worked previously in my Hizpo head unit by directly connecting the key 1 and 2 wires to the same wires on the head unit. With the same connections, the Joying does not respond to the key presses at all. But it does respond to the audio "next/previous" buttons on the steering stalk. I'm thinking this might be my best solution to get the aftermarket controls working.

So what does this PAC adapter convert the resistance value to for the android HU to understand it? I was think the key1 would just read the varying resistance value that is programmed to each key. Thanks
@1999TransAmWS68 жыл бұрын
The pac takes the car data signal and converts it to a resistance value. There's a few cars from the factory that put out a resistance signal so the pac is not necessary. my car for example only has one factory wire for the steering wheel control and it puts out more of a data signal that only the factory radio can understand. The pac can read the data signal and convert it to resistance values for the android HU to read.

I have a 2004 Escalade. I installed a Joying 5.1.1 Android radio in. The Escalade uses a CAN system. The ASWC-1 was having issues converting the CAN info to resistance for the radio. I was getting strange results. I bypassed the CAN system. I cut into the wiring under the steering column, disconnected the steering wheel control wiring going to the Body Control Module, BCM, and connected directly to the “Key 1 and 2” inputs. It did NOT work. From testing determined you need to put one wire from the wheel controls to ground and the other to “Key 1”. The steering wheel control wires do NOT go across Key 1 and Key 2. One wire goes to Key 1 and the other goes to ground. The radio reads all resistances on Key 1 and 2 in reference to ground. Worked great. No delay in any operation once programmed.

Great video. can I intepret your experience that the PAC unit will read a CANBUS signal and convert to resistance? I own a 2007 VW GTI and the factory steering wheel buttons sends signals via the CANBUS. Joying have stated on their website that CANBUS steering wheel buttons signals are fixed and cannot be customised on their radios using their CANBUS adaptor harness. Another problem is that not all factory steering wheel buttons can be used. for example the phone button. So the method you described is a work around to make all buttons work with a Joying stereo? Also does the resistance value change between short and long press of a steering wheel button? For example, I only have one phone button. Could it be possible to set up as follows - short press = answer call. long press = hang up? I welcome any feedback.

The best thing to do is call PAC or call Crutchfield. Tell them the car you have and say you have a Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX or any radio from Pioneer with steering wheel controls. Let them know you want a steering wheel control module. They'll point you to the correct one. Once installed it will take your CANBUS and convert it to a resistance then you should have no problem installing with my method.
@nigelmorgan49028 жыл бұрын
+1999TransAmWS6 And what about the change of resistance value from a short press to long press of the same steering wheel key? Does the resistance value change? By any chance have you tried this? If resistance does'nt change - I'm assuming the PAC or any other unit won't be able to interpret the functions differently? Therefore loss of steering wheel function?

Hands down, one of the best explanations on canbus connect here, thanks a lot for that. One question; since you seem to have tried bith android 4.4.4 and the 5.1.1 lollipop, which one is the better one to choose ? I'm close to deciding on a Joying 7" for my 2006 dodge Charger, but cant decide between the "older" 4.4.4 or the new 5.1.1. The hardware unit seems to be exactly the same.. Cheers
@1999TransAmWS68 жыл бұрын
Thats a tough one. As of right now the 4.4.4 runs much faster and uses up less memory at rest. There are many tasks on the 5.1.1 that seem to bog it down. In my opinion the 5.1.1 desperately needs 2gb of RAM. The 4.4.4 runs fine off 1gb....its just not enough for lollipop. Day to day the 5.1.1 is fine. You just need a bit of patience with some apps. Joying is good at putting out software updates. I just updated my lollipop last week and it has sped up but still not as fast as the 4.4.4. Joying has told me theyre working on a 2gb unit that should be available in about 6 months.
@1999TransAmWS68 жыл бұрын
There is a new company called in-dash.net that has an octacore with 2gb ram and lollipop. Its a bit more expensive. I might order one and if I do, I'll make a video review of it.
@Boomie51508 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. Sounds like it could be worth opening up the unit and exchange the 1Gb with a 2gb stick, its like 10$. These units seems to be upgradable, like tablets and laptops. I'm comparing Joyings UQ130 with the UL135, they are identical except the latter is 20$ more expensive with lollipop, the former is with kitkat. Both I can buy without additional 100-150 import tax/customs fees. Reading the rather good joying support forum, one can even upgrade the kitkat bought version to lollipop rather soon. Seems they are working on updates for these.
@Boomie51508 жыл бұрын
had a look at the site, rather suspect Hongkong outfit, poor display of products, etc. I would stay away. Also, more core are not necessarily better. The OS and apps need to be able to utilize the 8 cores, otherwise they are just idle. Also, These type octacores are new and just run at a third of the speed of the quad cores, might influence responsiveness. When cores a new, not many(if any) even support to use all 8 cores.. But Im not a lollipop expert, wouldnt know if it supports 8 core cpu. Cheers mate
@1999TransAmWS68 жыл бұрын
You made some good points. The website is pretty terrible but there are many people on the XDA forum (known members) that have already bought one. I'm waiting to see what they think of it. It's a small company that was on kickstarter a while ago. I do love the Joying set up though so I might just wait for their 2GB RAM unit. I agree and think it's not the processor but just the lack of memory that is causing the Lollipop unit to lag a bit. You really see it the most when you launch Google Maps. You just have to be patient, sometimes it can take up to a minute. I know a lot of main brand cell phones had the same issue when they upgraded from kitkat to lollipop. The 1GB of RAM just wasn't cutting it so they slowed down a bit. Lollipop takes considerable more memory. I have more apps installed on my 4.4.4 than my 5.1.1 and the 5.1.1 uses about 200mb more RAM even at rest. That's 20% of the total memory available. You just have to remember to fully close out apps. If you switch from Pandora to IheartRadio, go to the window icon in the notification bar and swipe away Pandora, etc.

Nice and clear video. This cleared some things up for me. I have a question, I'd like you to help me with. My car doesn't have steering wheel control, as it is from 1991 and it simply wasn't an option for my car. I don't even want steering wheel control, but my android headunit only has 5 buttons on the front of the screen, vol+ and -, mute, home and back. I reassigned the mute button to be play/pause so I can pause spotify, as I never find myself using mute function, but I'd like to have next/previous track, and maybe a button for navigation, and the I got the idea of I could make my own panel with physical buttons and mimic a steering wheel control input through key 1 and 2 like you did. My question is, how do I need to make the circuit for the button panel? I've searched on the internet for a universal circuit board to resolder the buttons or something but have not found one yet, So I want to make one from scratch. Can you help me?
@1999TransAmWS66 жыл бұрын
You'd want to search for "prototype board". It should be a pretty simple circuit. If for example you want 6 buttons, you'd need 6 resistors of different values. One end of each resistor would all tie together and got to Key 1 on the radio. Hook up a momentary push button to the other end of each resistor. Then tie all of the other end of each push button to Key 2 on the radio. That should cover it.
