Excellent tutorial, I think android would be very tough to learn if you had no java experience. I would say spend a month learning java and objects first before turning to android. There is kotlin too, but I know nothing about it.

when you created the CustomView.java file you extended view which gives the view some default methods that you can call. One of them is setOnClickListener and you can use it in a similar fashion to that of the button we used. Might be a late comment but maybe it will help others.
