Switch is budget mobile hardware with a scheme to make you waste 60 dollar per game and a premium subscription. It will be cheaper at the beginning but much more expensive on the longterm and nowhere near as valuable as other options. The point is not graphics, is more about processing power and resolution. Games need severe optimisation work to get good framerates and smooth gameplay in switch. Thats why you get the choppy 30 fps experiences of Pokemon games that are developed in a rush, when compared to Breath of the Wild games that take years, because they need to be optimised a lot in order to run properly in the hardware. Nintendo has great franchises and good marketing. it just baffles people they use such a crap hardware to achieve it. Its great from business perspective, and they generate social acceptance around its products. most people dont care/know anything about hardware.

Yeah it sucks but you can just buy a USB C wireless transmitter. That's what I did. But I do notice a slight audio lag with my AirPods but still playable. My Bose QC35 audio lag is unplayable. So maybe thats the reason. Wireless headphones latency isn't good enough especially back in 2017 when the switch first came out.

Oh, and Android on the Switch has gotten a lot better! There are unofficial builds out there built from the source code by the Switchroot devs, and it’s on Android 10 and the Joy-Cons connect directly over the rails without needing Bluetooth! I found it to be much smoother and long-lasting in terms of screen-on time than the current 8.1 build.

I kinda want to learn more hacks, mostly to "fix" Netflix for Android TV to request Widevine L3 (the Switch doesn't support Widevine L1 DRM, so Netflix for Android TV doesn't work, but the regular non-TV version supports all levels and works because Android phones don't guarantee support for L1 and L2.) I remember "hacking" my Steam Link. That device literally is asking to be "hacked". You literally only need a single file in a specific folder on a USB drive, the login infos you can easily find online, and you get access to the Steam Link's entire drive + its console via SSH. To compare, most Android devices require you to use a computer and to erase all data to be rooted, the 3DS (also another device that is easy to hack, and extremely easy to manage the hack) requires on the latest version for you to either flash a flashcard (ntrboot) or to exploit the dsi firmware, and the PS Vita needs to be kept at a certain firmware. Compare anything else to simply putting an empty file on a USB. Good job, Steam. Too bad the Steam Link is a *streaming device* so there isn't really much point in all that. Oh and also, RetroArch supports it for some reason. Not that I'm complaining.

I mean, you can connect it to any display via USB-C and you can also use the Deck as input/controller for an external system or connect other controllers/gamepads via Bluetooth or USB. Then you can also emulate on the Deck. The biggest advantage of an old Switch might be the price. But it's way more difficult to get such a hackable device and getting a used one might require swapping the battery if its capacity decreased too much.

Every button and joystick was at the wrong position for my hands. The deck just fits me though. 4:30 if you don't power off your switch and keep it in sleep mode then it should still stay on the payload for anyone in the comments wondering. So as long as you don't run out of battery or need to remove the sd card you only have to do this once (unless you wanna go back to normal switch mode). Btw you can also flash from your phone. So you'd get a usb c to usb c for example and there is an app that lets you inject a payload into your switch from your android phone. I'm assuming ios might also have one but I'm not sure.

This is a great example of why the Sega Dreamcast will always be my favorite console. CDR's with bootable emulators of all retro consoles with every game included, a VCD player boot disc when DVD was an expensive and not widespread alternative yet, and burnable dreamcast games with no boot disc required. Ran an IRC channel with some friends that provided so many options that I may not even know of to this day, but it was definitely the reason I got into rooting every device I possibly could (for test purposes only of course).

Dreamcast is such a great system. Plus they’re still affordable and available. Shit like the Jaguar is getting so expensive it’s ridiculous. A lot of the blame goes to the millions of vintage game collecting channels. Everyone and their dog started buying up everything cheap gaming even if they’re not into it, thinking it’s worth a small fortune. A lot of vintage game prices are even worse. Then devs price gouge and limit the library of their often shitty official emulation platform and proceed to wonder why we emulate and pirate.. 🤷‍♂️

It might also be down to the sd card reader being slower to read than the Switch's internal memory. Actually most mobile device manufacturers both with phones and tablets cheap out on sd card readers so fast sd cards are often a waste of money since the reader is the real bottleneck.

4:33 nope, thats not the real portable way lol, my switch has an internal board that auto triggers RCM and auto pushes the payload from its own storage, no USB connection or joycon rail jig required, i just hold Vol up and power to trigger but you can set an option to not even need to press vol if you want but by having it set to trigger only on Vol up you will boot straight to stock firmware unless pressed and get your Switch custom firmware and android boot options on demand. The board is a £15 Trinket M0 (the best choice) but you can use a number of different SAMD21 based boards, one of which can be found for as low as £9 and the soldering consists of 7 wires.

just wanted to say: if you don't want to connect your switch to your computer every start up there are a few alternatives other than a specialized usb dobgle. 1: use an android phone! - some android phones can inject the payload themselves 2: overwrite the boot partition - WARNING: this is permanent and isn't recommended - but you can make it so every boot would be to the hekate boot loader. also: instead of shortening the pins with a special device you can solder it in your remote so when you press on the release button it will shorten the pins: nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/user_guide/emummc/entering_rcm/ - Soldered Joy-Con Pads - Physical RCM Button hope it helps someone
