Why are there apps that share data in the first place

There are some legitimate use cases for sharing data: a weather app that fetches a forecast from a service that delivers weather information (ie pretty much all weather apps)? Few apps use an in-house analytics platform so they would be sharing data with them. By the way analytics is not always nefarious; a developer can use it to infer which feature is the most popular in their apps and focus their time on those. Crash reporting falls under the analytics umbrella as well. Health / activity data is another case where "sharing data" is legit. Plenty more...
