Two month's ago, I HATED IEM's! I had bought a set of Shuoer Tape's, crammed 'em in my head, listened to them for about 10 minutes and threw them into a junk drawer. A month ago, I was bored so I retrieved the Tape's from the drawer and spent some time finding tips that actually fit and learned how to properly seat them. The sound was (is) unbelievably GREAT!!! Thick, full slamming bass, beautifully presented mids and crisp high's with no hint of sibilance...just amazing! And the Tape's, while good, are pretty far from the best IEM's. I have since bought 6 more set's because they are very affordable and each set has it's own unique characteristics. I would be hard-pressed to name another "hobby" that offers as much bang for the buck as the Chi-Fi IEM's that are being cranked out every week! Thank you for the great breakdown! Your enthusiasm is part of the reason for my new obsession!

I've been a live sound engineer for 33 years (much of that time spent as a monitor engineer). I started in 1989. When I first started IEMs were a rarity. Stage Monitors and side fills were still the norm. As IEMs began to populate the market...musicians began showing up with them. Future Sonics was the big dog in the early days of IEMs. Here are some reasons not to use IEMs.... 1 - Musicians often pull one ear out, so they have an ear mix in one ear, and hear the room/stage monitors with the other ear. That can be very very damaging to the ear with the IEM. If you do it continuously, for years, you can really cause damage. And its an inbalanced damage. 2 - A majority of musicians who use IEMs, still want stage monitors as a back up. So while IEMs are sold as a convenience... We are still putting all the same old speakers and amps on the truck. Often they want the stage clear of stage monitors. So we have to fly huge PA speakers on the sides of the stage, and spray the stage with sound. 3 - Custom molded ears, seal the IEM so well, that there is no air movement in your ear. I've seen more than one sweaty musician walk off stage after performing, with sweat adding to the seal of the mold...and when the IEM is being removed, it acts as a plunger, and pulls the ear drum. I've seen this rip ear drums. 4 - Multi driver IEMs tend to run at lower volume. They run at higher ohm ratings, as a way to protect all those drivers. That high ohm rating pulls less power from the wireless ear pack or headphone amp. I see many musicians go through all the latest greatest multi driver IEMs, only to switch back to single drivers for the increased volume. 5 - In the age of technology.... Mucisians generally have tablets, to mix their own mix, connected to the digital monitor console via a router. By and large, they build terrible mixes for themselves, because they are not audio engineers. So you have a band on stage playing, each musician with a weird ass mix...which ends up isolating them from the rest of the players. So the chances of a band locking in as a band, is diminished. They all have no idea whats really happening in the space that they are playing in, often creating a very unnatural sounding performance. 5 - Today, most bands use backing tracks. This requires playing to click track (a metronome), and a slate track (a voice instructing you whats happening next "bridge", "chorus", etc..). IEMs allow this, because no one in the audience can hear it. Its another factor that generates very sterile performances. So IEMs are not turning out to be the great savior that they were marketed as.

what if im just regular listening to music while shopping? With one IEM in one ear and one ear out? Would that cause any ear damage?
@scottrobinson97523 ай бұрын
@@suzukaziodyne9723 ... If your not listening at damaging levels, its probably ok. I probably wouldn't do it for prolonged periods. The brain is not really set up to receive such direct information in one ear, while only hearing natural world ambience in the other ear. It can cause mental fatigue.

İ know that your comment iş old now and probably you don't want to return back but, İ'm thinking it about gaming , and concernes about using it for long durations, both ear will ve plugged, will there be any risks ?
@scottrobinson97522 ай бұрын
@@burakbarlasatak6843 ... It really depends on volume levels, and the type of earbuds you're using. If your earbuds create a total seal with no air flow, it can be damaging and even painful at certain volumes. It can become physically uncomfortable, after prolonged preriods, even at reasonable volumes. The physical ear structure actually has a lot of nerves, and something being shoved in the ear can cause irritation after a while. Musicians wear theirs for an hour or two at a time, while performing concerts. If your gaming for multiple hours, your ear structure can start to ache physically. I would recommend the lightest weight, over-the-ear full muff headphones you can find. Something that has a nice thick, light weight foam surround. Any amount of reduced weight, adds to the amount of time that they are comfortable to wear. You also want something that is not squeezing your heard too tightly. Hope that helps!

@@Finger_Lock_ If you are thinking of raycons I will straight up laugh in your face. Imo there arevery few (if any) better wireless earphones than the airpods pro. Apple is actually having one of tge smallest profit per unit sold in the epectronics industry. Their products are very well build and engineered so therefore they cost a lot to make. Shipping employment, marketing etc. It all costs, when it comes to brands ilke kz they do not bother with marketing, the result being a lower price. Now that we settled this these products should not be compared side by side. Their target is very much different. Kz zs10 pros are; wired, bulky, cheap packaged, you won't get good customer service but sound great and absolutely destroy airpods in this aspect. Airpods pro on the other hand are wireless, have a bunch of fancy technology in them, got anc, work great with iphones, got good sound (premium I would call it) but not exceptional. Guy in this video is kinda right but a little ignorant at the same time not giving apple earphones a chance even calling them by a nin existent name "applepods" showing his lack of knowledge on headphones market these days. Shure has really good bass and mids but the highs dont really stand out. The KZ has a little less bass imo but more defined mids and a little better highs. I heard it from an audiophile that you don’t need dual drivers from an iem to necessarily give good sound. A single tuned driver from normal earphones is good enough to create great imaging and soundstage too. Good to hear different opinions.
@mst40013 жыл бұрын
More drivers doesn't mean better sound What really important is the tuning That's where iem s stand out
@Sherolox Жыл бұрын
A single Dynamic Driver (DD) can do a lot on its own. By designing clever crossovers with Balanced Armatures (BAs) and other types of drivers, the entire soundscape can be improved quite a bit, on top of that.

True! I've been using my KZ ZS10 Pro for nearly 4 years now and I just bought a BLON BL-03 IEM. All I can say is that these Chi-Fi IEMs are very affordable, have great sound quality, a have good build quality. These things are far more better than the expensive and mainstream ones. since you're new to the iem world, I'd suggest you to get the Blon bl-03, these are around $25, have single carbon nanotube dynamic drivers but still sound even better than KZ's, strengthening the notion that more drivers doesn't equal better sound... Also if you want better detail and much better bass response with less sibilance, try the TRN BA5, these have 5 (around $45) balanced armatures on each side but doesn't suffer from anemic bass.
@HobartsReviews4 жыл бұрын

You are indeed correct, I never expect adding a little bit more driver can create such differences when I upgrade from Plextone DX6 (1BA+2DD) to KZ ZSX (5BA+1DD). The differences is noticeable especially if you listen to anime sort of music that has a lot of sound coming at once.

@@HobartsReviews after a long time i got the packages, postal service sure took their sweet time The kz edr were very cheap and sound is ok, but compared to other headphones in the same price, they are superior, the small net between the exterior and interior of the iem fell off kinda quickly though. Then i got some UiiSii hm7/9, and in sound quality they are a straight upgrade, compared to stuff I can get locally for the same price they also beat them in price to performance. Only detail was the plastic housing on the jack would move up the cable, and it always happened when unplugging, nothing some glue couldn't fix tho. And finally the KZ ZSN pro, love the detachable cable, fits right in my ears, they sound amazing, cheap price, and destroy competitors in price to performance. The repeating factor is the superior price to performance these iem's have, and that for every price point you can find something of excellent quality. Also love that they are much more comfortable than using those fully plastic earbuds, don't know how i used those in HS without losing an ear. Also on a related note, the ones I bought had some really low impedance, so i got an impedance plug to effectively nullify the hiss noticeable at low volumes.

Trust me. When you've heard high quality sound from a really good pair of iem or headphone, you'd never want to hear shitty audio ever again. You'll be hooked by how nice the sound is and how you can hear everything, and realistically too. It somehow fools your brain into thinking the sound is really there. I often can't tell the difference between real and fake at all and would turn my head to the direction to see what the sound was, only to realize it's the sound from the headphone.

This is, by far, the best video explanation about how IEMs work. I have the very same ZS10 Pro for about 6 months, working with a Oneplus 6T with the basic 1+ jack/USB-C adapter, and they were awesome already. I took a step forward and ordered a Shanling Q1 DAP this very week. I remember 20 years ago, I had to work quite hard as a student to afford a good iRiver H120 or a Rio Karma with a good pair of Shure E3. Nowadays you can afford absolutely stunning audio quality thanks to these Chinese companies (KZ, KBear, Shanling, Moondrop, Fiio...) for about 2 or 3 times less money than 15 or 20 years ago. And my Shure died on me after 4 years of use... Yeah, the cable of one unit went bad... Not a problem with a MMCX/0.75/0.78 standard cable. Brilliant.

This is not a negative comment, i do really think this was an excellent resume on this topic. The Akg earbuds in the thumbnail are actually very natural sounding in ears. They’re not really in ear monitors but they do have the Harman Target response tuning. Ofcourse they sound a lot more boring and basic than a in ear monitor but that’s because the response is so flat. They barely sound harsh on sharp recordings while still sounding clear. They do not have a huge soundstage which can make them sound a bit 2D compared to in ear monitors. I think these Akg in ears do sound better than the Shure Se215 as i got to test them both. Of course sound is subjective and i prefer a more boring sound but there is a chance the Akg headphones are more natural than atleast 75% of the in ear monitors. Atleast that’s what a lot of measurements tell me of most in ear monitors. A great pair of in ear monitors are the Etymotic ER4XR. They really have a natural response from what i’ve heard. The Etymotic are claimed to be one of the most accurate to date. Anyways, thanks a lot for the review, i enjoyed it a lot. Sorry for my bad english btw.
