I just got the Q8 plus. Its my first with the UI. Maybe something has changed since this video. But for thermal stepdown temp on my instructions after the second flash each click is adding 1 degree from 30c. So if I wanted to get to 70c I would have to do 40 clicks. Like I said Im new to this. Did the UI change? Or does it have to do with something else? Also what temp before stepdown would you recommend thats high but still a considered safe for the electronics?

Great vid as every other is. Makes me wonder how the maximum volt charge is determined. Is it affected by the voltage that is entered by the user at all? Or is it some inner default setting inside the processor that determines when on-board charging is halted. Most non-Anduril lights with on-board charging are set to max out at 4.18V-4.2V Hmm, maybe when the charge cable is inserted it resets to a default configuration. I bet ToyKeeper would know😊. I guess that’s a simple enough test to perform. Set your light to 4.4V or more(as indicated by the 3-click)then insert charge cable, then recheck the 3-click to see if there’s a change. Thanks for the good work as usual…..EDIT: Just checked, the 3-click volt test did not change after inserting the charge cable. I’m using my Sofirn SC31 Pro for the test. Started at 3.8V, then input the 13 clicks, showed 4.1V, then inserted type C charger, shows red switch(charging), still shows 4.1V You can 3-click test while charging! Now shows 4.4V while charging(red switch). Will it blow up? I’ll let y’all know. EDIT 2: Switch went green(charging complete). Removed battery from light…placed in Miboxer C4-12 charger, voltage is shown as 4.19V, thank heavens my SC31 Pro did not blow up.✌️

i and a friend are tempted to get this light, ive heard good things about the molicell p42a, how many more lumens would i get from the moli compared to the original sofirn branded 21700's? if its a big increase, im getting the moli as ive found a retailer here in my coutry that sells it for around the same total price (light + p42s's) as the light + sofirn batteries and do you have a comparison video somewhere?

What exactly does the voltage calibration do? So it's telling the light that the battery is .3 volts higher than it actually is? If the battery is actually at 3.9 volts the light will think it's at 4.2? What does this do besides give you a few extra lumens is it beneficial in any other way? And is it dangerous to run the batteries low with the voltage set like this? Thanks
@smotheredchrome
@smotheredchrome Жыл бұрын
Thank you my friend I appreciate your comment 🙏 The only benefits is a few extra lumens and your battery will last a little longer if you were in a situation where you had no way to charge, I wouldn't say it's dangerous but if you run it to low and don't have a charger that repairs batteries you can drop the voltage to low to be able to charge with the flashlight. Basically IMHO the voltage calibration tricks the light in-between .3 and .5 depending on the light
@aj2no17

@Smothered Chrome thanks for the reply. I think you also mentioned you shouldn't charge it with the USB c with the battery calibrated this way either so should i factory reset it every time before charging the light? I'm confused cuz if you're telling the light it's like .3v higher than it actually is wouldn't the light just charge to like 3.9v and stop charging since it would think it's at 4.2 instead? Sorry for all questions I appreciate the help

That's were it gets a little tricky for me as I'm no electrician and don't want none of you to ruin your battery or light, I'm just using common sense that the battery maxed is 4.2 and if you have it configured you could be possibly charging to 4.5 that's why I recommend not to charge in your configured light, I have charged mine while configured but very shortly I never let it charge full because I don't want to blow up a battery or anything worse.

@@smotheredchromeThe maximum number of steps could go as high as 150, at least it use to be. There's just no point to it as you may as well use smooth ramping. Anduril brightness has always been based on a scale from 1 to 150.

This is not the correct way to set this up, you're getting "extra lumens" because you're defeating the temperature protection in it by calibrating it wrong. Correct method is: Go into temperature check mode on a room temperature flashlight (meaning it's been turned off and is stable at the temp of the room you're in, not in your warm pocket or anything), and then enter calibration mode as you show, after the FIRST flash, this is the current temp setting (where you set it to 1 click (1 Celsius)). This SHOULD BE set to current ambient room temperature. So, if the room you're sitting in is 21 Celsius (70 Fahrenheit) then click 21 times. After the second flash of calibration, that is the CUTOFF temperature where it will throttle back to protect from overheating. This has a minimum of 30 Celsius, so every 1 click is above 30. (default is 45C just like you set in your video (30+15 clicks = 45)). The problem is if you set the current temp to 1 C in a 20C room, then you're effectively skewing the temperature reading it takes to always think it's 19 degrees cooler than reality. So, then your max temperature when it starts to regulate itself is 19 degrees HIGHER than intended. The max programmed temperature for regulation in Anduril 2 is 70C (40 clicks). So, if you are set to 45C like you did then the 20C calibration error will keep you under the 70C max safe limit still. However, if you had your max temperature set to 51C or higher, the light would now EXCEED its safety rating because it'll think it's only 60C when in reality, it's 79C, for example.
@gd.ritter
@gd.ritter Жыл бұрын
also, to check your calibration, leave the flashlight off on a shelf for 20 minutes to stabilize at the current room temperature. If you check the temperature of the flashlight, it should flash the current room temperature in Celsius. So 3Clicks to battery check. 2 clicks to temp check. Compare it's reported temp against another thermometer in the room. Remember it'll be warmer if it's been running recently or in your jeans pocket or something, give it time to reach actual room temp internally before testing/calibrating.

Thank you my friend I appreciate your comment and information. Yes I understand what you are saying and I put countless hours of testing and the way I set it up is perfect for me, I did some research on LED's and the heat they can handle and from what I gather and from experience they can handle what ever anduril 2 setting you throw at it. The only downside to these setting is your light will definitely get extremely hot and burn you if running on turbo but medium mode and lower I have great experiences. Appreciate you my friend 👍
@gd.ritter
@gd.ritter Жыл бұрын
@@smotheredchrome Yes, it'll survive being driven that hard in your case because the 45C you've set for cutoff + the 20C calibration error = 65C out of a designed 70C max. In fact, you can set the actual ambient temperature correctly and change your cutoff (second flash in config setting) to 65C (out of the 70C maximum) and you'll achieve the exact same performance but without faking the temperature reading and without risking someone taking your advice. Accurate temp readings will also come into play when the light decides if it's safe to be charging a max current also, so let's not burn down our house on accident either and just set it up correctly. If someone watching takes your advice on the 1 Celsius temp setting but their cutoff is set to max of 70C, their DRIVER will hit 90C or more before it realizes to throttle back. If they were in Texas with a real temp of 100F when they set it, they're out of calibration by 38C! Add the designed 70C cutoff and they are at 108C. The SST40 Led in a Sofirn SC31 Pro has a max temp rating (at the LED) of 100 Celsius. Someone could easily fry their light, shorten its life, or explode a battery or lens by combining your advice with a max cutoff setting. You've given literally dangerous advice in this video if someone who doesn't understand what they're doing blindly trusts you. I'm genuinely not trying to be a jerk here, tone is hard to read online. But depending on how warm their house is when they do this config, it could be hazardous. I just want the right info to be available to everyone so we can all love our lights.
@smotheredchrome

Honestly my friend I recommended not to do these setting in my video, I am just showing how to calibrate your light to the max, I've done 100s of test different ways and never had any issues with fires or burning out LED's. The way I setup the configuration on my videos is the best way for throttling down and I have done all the correct ways and still the 1c and max 70 is the best IMHO. To be honest the stock way without any configuration straight out the box can burn your house down, fry your battery and so on, I definitely appreciate your info and concern my friend.

Hi mate, never ever play with voltage calibration, unless you know what you doing! You are not boosting voltage to emitters directly, that option is for charging circuit. For example if you measured factory settings on that flashlight 4.2V cut off for overcharge protection and 3V for discharge protection and than you add +0.30V offset that mean that both overcharge/discharge protection will rise for that amount, so it will charge to !4.5V! and discharge to 3.3V(under 3.3V you have way more capacity than over 4.2V). However It's very dangerous to charge Li-Ion batteries above 4.2V and i can't imagine what would happen if battery short inside that thick aluminum case, it's a pocket bomb...and you won't get much lumens by charging cells to 4.5V anyway because you are not gaining almost nothing from 4.2 to 4.5, so after you turn your flashlight at some higher mode voltage will instantly drop to like 3.7V or more depends on the power output and cell internal resistance, you are just risking to damage cells or something even way more worst. Reason why you think you got some lumens more is because you used higher output power that caused rapid voltage drop on batteries due to big current, than you turn light off, batteries start to ''recover'' from that stress, voltage back up and when you turn it on again on same mode it show slightly higher output value but for a very short period, on 5:53 you see that slight boost and instantly get back to previous output you measured before, also can be that some components inside hold some energy after you turn flashlight off (inductors, capacitors..). For powerbank part, has nothing to do with that offset, that's separate circuit with regulated voltage at 5V input/output, unless it is QC, than it will have multiple voltage ranges depended on your power adapter. Sorry for my tragic English, not my native language, tried to explain in a simple way possible. Cheers and be safe when working with batteries and high current! :)
