What a genius Andy is. I don't know if any other skater has ever been so involved in the development of new material. It seems like most of them "accept" what they get from the manufacturer and that's it. Even with wheels Andy is doing something different (I received the nano cubics today, BTW). And I'm not going to lie, I've got a lot of decks in different sizes and shapes but, since the Heron 2 (egg) came out I have no reason to ride another shape until this new Anderson shape is released :-) And it seems like Dan's skating has improved since he rides one. Keep going!

I love how Dan changed his mind on the shaped boards. As a 38 year old who just got back on a deck after 2 decades, the egg was such a great board to start with again just a little to wide for me, although I still ride it atm. Cant wait to get this new shape. I hope he comes up with a clever name for it. I have already heard Andy speak on this 2 times now but can listen to him and Dan talk for days.

Same age started again within the last few months after a decade my old board is a straight 8” wasn’t feeling it tho it’s familiar so could ride it ok. Stopped at my local shop and got one of their shop decks 8.75 they call it “pool” shape and love it so far got rails on it and working on becoming a curb god like these guys having a blast doing it. Will try Andy’s egg and this new one in the future. The shop decks are $50 with the grip tho so for now they’ll do.

in 2013 I put out my ideal skateboard shape. Based on the shapes I favored through the 80's, designed for the way I like to ride ( Ollies, Footplant, Wallride & wallwalk variations etc ) Later in 2017, I got to redo it on a CNC machine from the handcut blank making it much more balanced and precise. I wish every skater interested the opportunity to take up designing skateboards as Andy is doing here, Hopefully this inspires a new generation just as I was inspired some 35+ years ago to start making my own shapes. Skip has a great quote: "Shapes are skateboarding's life's blood." which sums it up perfectly. By the way Andy's new board reminds me a lot of the Hans Lindgren freestyle board from back in my time. Knowing Andy's knack for following our history ,I would not be surprised if that is some inspiration behind his current design.

@@authenticandyanderson Hans Lindgren... there is a video where Tony Gale credits his side cut shape to Lindgren. I found an article where Lindgren talks about the side cut origins -- "Before I was on Schmitt Stix I was riding the Tracker board Flipside for a while but it was too small for me so I started to cut my own shapes again and experimented with a wider deck with the sidecut and it worked out good, I do (did) a lot of old school kickflips (under flips) variations and the skinnier middle makes the board go more straight up instead of travelling sideways." In a video where Tony Gale talks about the side cuts, he also sites kick flips.... and Tony talks about how they enable the board to maintain stability as the rail wears away from doing rail tricks - thus extending the life of the board.

I've never seen so much innovation involved with board shape specifically. Andy has truly captured the essence of skateboard flip trick parameters and fused it with his expertise in foot placement. I'm convinced Andy is a street-level genius, on and off the board. It's part of what makes him one of the most innovative skaters since Rodney Mullen. But he also has a real passion for the design and evolution of the tools of skateboarding that will afford him a rich career long after he stops competing professionally. Andy is proof you don't need a college degree to be smart and a brilliant inventor/innovator. You just have to know what you're working with and take it apart theoretically with an analytical mind. I also love how Andy is completely unpretentious and humble in spite of being one of the most brilliant people in skateboarding ever. He is a blessing to our sport. God bless, Andy.
