When I was in seventh grade, I had a bunch of Andy Mac book covers. They were sequence photos, and it said “skateboarding is my anti drug!” At that time most of the better skaters in my town quit to start messing with that stuff. And I remember looking at that book cover and thinking I wanted to be like him, not them. Flash forward, I’m 34. Cleaning up my life, and I still think of that book cover as “ that’s who I wanna be like.” I just started skating again, and I got a yellow helmet because of that. You rock Andy!

I can watch these podcasts for ever! 58 year old skater from Tennessee. I at least got to the point I could truly skate vert fairly decent. I’ve got skate magazines that go back to around 77-90s! It will always be in my blood! In my mind I am still 18 years old!

Got a pair of airwalk shoes when I was 6. They came with a vhs tape of Andy Mac showing you the basics of skating. That was the VERY FIRST experience I had with skating and the moment I decided I wanted to do that. I can honestly say Andy Mac is the reason I started skating ❤

That "cold" or pins and needles feeling is a result of acute paresthesia... It often happens in high times of stress and is typical from people who have panic attacks or bad anxiety. It sometimes can accompany things like stage fright or fear of public speaking. Andy is right that it sometimes is a lack or circulation but more often than not, it's actually a lack of oxygen saturation in your blood. This is common in times of high anxiety because our upper bodies tense up and we fail to realize that our breath has become shallow and we are losing oxygen. This is how people faint from fear or stress. This is why therapists stress deep breathing techniques. It not because it's some thing that will relax you... it's because if you are oxygen starved, you are going to freak out. Deep breathing and heavy exhaling will saturate you with oxygen and expunge your Co2 levels. Deep breathing... staying loose in your upper body and doing upper body stretches can work absolute WONDERS.

The time I met Andy he was super friendly. I had one of his decks to autograph and not only was he happy to do it he also told me and my wife all about what the meaning of the graphic. He used to work at sea world and had to walk around in the Shamu costume. So its possible I met him when I was a kid that time i got my picture made with Shamu. Love the interview Andy is a great guest and a great fallow on instagram. Only person I have seen boost a boosted skateboard out of a bowl. Thankfully that did not become a thing at my park. I can only imagine getting snaked be a Electric skateboard. The scooters, bikes and recreance of inline skaters are enough traffic for me.

This is the first episode I’ve actually watched, but I’ve listened to every episode. As a BMX rider I really appreciate everything Tony did with Boom Boom huck jam and Tony’s big skatepark tour (I forget the actual name, sorry). I’ve always veered toward the side of everyone should get along instead of creating conflict between scenes that the Normies out there don’t even know about (except fruit booters, fuck those guys). Love it, love you, love people!

I grew up with everyone I knew espousing the “fuck fruit booters” shit, but most of the inline skaters I met at parks (that weren’t middle aged agro cunts in a midlife crisis) were super chill, and did incredibly gnarly shit while getting absolutely zero credit or respect for it. It’s like everyone calling them gay just pushed them further into doing more extreme shit. Really they where more counter culture in that respect than any of us. Just doing what they enjoy without needing anyone to think it’s cool.
