I met and interviewed Andy Narell in 1984 while producing shows for Radio Bilingue, he had come into Fresno to perform and we gave him airtime. I think I still have the interview on cassette tapes. Amazed that he has been doing his creative genius on the steel drums🎉 Wow just great to hear this. I now help run that Latino owned radio Network. 😊

Ive been obsessed with his material for years. This video is amazing. He’s on a different level. Most pan players play the usual boring tunes but Andy’s tunes and approach is very sophisticated and classy and fun. I wish I could play like him.

LOVE HIS ATTITUDE TO THIS GREAT INSTRUMENT, AND HIS BAND , ESPECIALLY HIS KEYBOARD PLAYER, HER SKATTING IS TOP CLASS THEN THE BASS, AND DRUMS, ALL CLASS PLAYERS. You need to be sat there with a loooong Pina Colada!! I would like to hear Andy work with a drummer using brushes instead of sticks a la Modern Jazz Quartet to soften the attack during the low tempo tracks. I think it would work. By the way, I AM NOT criticising the drumming. As for Janysett I think she will soon rank alongside Ruben Gonzales, Chucho Valdes, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Roberto Fonseca in the pantheon of Cuban pianissimo greats. By the way, whoever filmed this did it in the most appropriate and sympathetic manner possible. Kudos!!
