I'm still quite capable of short boarding at a young 53 years of age and have grown up in San Clemente surfing since 11 years old. I can't tell you how much I have accepted logging to be such a great different feeling . What people don't understand is that you always have fun and never sink in small waves trying to ride a short board. You know , the feeling like your in 3rd gear trying to go up hill in a car. The left movements , the walking , the way the board just kinda takes you first, rather than you controlling your short board. I'm addicted to logging now. Great inspiration watching how it's done. You can do it all.

It's a more pure relationship between the craft, rider, and ocean. You can't really impose your will on the board too much, so you have to really cooperate with the wave. You can't ride how YOU want, you have to ride how the wave and board will allow you. It's truly a beautiful thing and represents the symbiosis of man and nature, how wonderful things are possible when they work with each other and not in spite of each other

I've known Andy since was 10 years old surfing Bone Yard Doheny, I have so many pictures of him, I've seen a lot of groms over the years there, but Andy is a special Talent, he's the best I've ever seen, I always knew he would be a winner and he is. Keep it up Andy and ride one for me. Chewy.

Pretty sure I'm in the background of the shot at 9 Palms. 🤙 So far this year I've surfed Baja, Michoacan, Guerrero, and Oaxaca. Having traveled basically all of the west coast of Mexico, BCS is still my favorite part of the country by a mile. Love it there.

I may be wrong but isn't Andy the only Logger/Retro/Non-Competition surfer riding for Quik? There's like 150+ shortboard rippers on the Quik team and then there's Andy on an island by himself. Years ago I always wondered why Quik was even sponsoring a guy like him since nothing in their marketing or products that really appeals to the outcast loggers. However, it's good to see them putting out videos like these and would be nice if they put some other good log talent on their team, maybe come out with some merch that accompanied this vibe.

Just for your information... Some Baja Californians find it offensive if you call their home state "Baja. "... Their State is called 'Baja California.' When the Spanish, Tlaxcaltecas and others allies from the Tenochtitlan conquest came to these lands, they named them California and divided them in two; Alta California and Baja California, the 1st one is in the US and the 2nd in México... I have seen several videos, where they always call it Baja, I know, you do not mean it in an offensive way, it is just an effort to bring a little bit of justice to an State that has been struggling to recover it's name for decades... Our Very Own Historian Guadalupe Jiménez is an advocate of this fight. She says, I quote "They stole our land, they stole our name (America), and now they wanna still our name 'California'..."
