This is well worth watching several times over,. and then watch it a few more times.

That section at 4:50 is more than just changing accents, it’s actually changing the pattern slightly. That tripped me up until I saw the order of strings changes.

How long exactly did it take Andy to master this? I have been doing it for a couple of weeks and I can do it sort of ok but not as fast
5 жыл бұрын
he said in an interview, that he was doing that for several years in his early days, on a Mandolin, trying to do Bela Fleck Banjo patterns. So it's something he has "always" been working on.

Is there any real difference between cross picking, alternate picking and flat picking or just different terms for the same thing?
@vincentbal3352 жыл бұрын
it's a bit confusing, but flatpicking refers to just using a guitar pick as opposed to playing fingerstyle or thumb-picked guitar. Alternate picking is any repeated up-and down picking motion and covers a variety of motions and styles. Crosspicking is one of those styles- in crosspicking has a curved picking trajectory, which means the pick ends up escaping from the strings after every pickstroke, as opposed to being stuck in between two strings. It's often used for one-note-per-string patterns like the one Andy is showing here. Like with every guitar technique there are multiple ways to accomplish the curved motion. At least this is how I understand it. Troy Grady has some nice videos on understanding crosspicking. Hope it helps!

I wish I had discovered country picking when I was 13. It's a little painful to learn these things after 30

Learning this at 16, still painful. I guess the only difference is I have a lot of time since I don’t have that many responsibilities yk. I have time to just watch KZbin and play guitar

@@jubnx2781 Also good to hear of a younger person using their time on a worthwhile pursuit. Keep at it and tear up that guitar.

Would this be easier fingerpicked?
@mysterybotts2 жыл бұрын
Yes but if you like using a pick or have many single note lines your doing it might be better to do this. Ideally we’d be able to do both.

When you were doing it slowly you were alternating but as you sped up you went down, down, up etc. I could be wrong but I don't think so. P. S I'm a big fan. Love your work.
