Agree 100% with the need to hear the bass playing of Jaco Pastorius. Killed in a bar fight at the young age of 35, I challenge anyone to find any professional bassist who does not list Jaco as one of his top 2 or 3 influences, even 35 years later after his tragic death. His bass playing is so unique, it doesn't sound like bass you have ever heard from any other bass player.

@maceomaceo112 жыл бұрын
Blood Sugar Sex Magic is RHCP at their zenith. They'd been around for almost a decade at that point, been through more band and personal turmoil than necessary, had matured enough for the song writing to evolve, still had a boat load of agression and attitude and were fully committed as a group to make the best music they could. Throw in Rick Rubin and a haunted Hollywood mansion that they lived in as the studio and you end up with a genre defining epic album. John Frusciante (barely 21 years old at the time) is THE star of this record and all guitar players should study it intensely. The tones, technique, imagination, touch and flat out balls are mind boggling. You can see how it all unfolded in the documentary about the making of the album, Funky Monks. Worth a Patreon watch consideration.

I love the Chili Peppers..one of my favourite bands! ❤ Their evolution throughout the years has been amazing. They started out more punk rock/rap rock/funk with their first four albums. Then Blood Sugar Sex Magik was the stepping stone into RHCP 2.0. The funkiest hardcore shit. The next album was with a different guitarist and had a darker tone (fitting with the 90s grunge era). Then John Frusciante, their guitarist on album 4 and 5 came back and yet a new era was born with their next three albums together. They've become mature and so many songs have the most beautiful melodies and backing vocals♡ but there are also so many funky & foot stomping & groovy songs too! So many of their non mainstream songs are just gems and worth the listen! I'd go for these songs for reaction videos instead of the most famous ones.

How about Chilli Peppers with original guitarist Hillel Slovack and drummer Jack Irons 🔥 previous album "Uplift Mofo Party Plan" (& had 2 albums prior) Just before they broke big and were still gracing the stage with nothing but socks covering their manhood. Check 1) Behind the Sun I say best track they ever did.

To be fair, I don't think this can be classified as rock music. This is funk with undertones of hip hop.

I love this song. so glad you like it. Intensely late-80s/early 90s, so I could see how it might feel dated. But damn it's so great.

Flea is known as one of the greater bassists, especially in his slap style. He even has a music school on California. He and Anthony met in high school as two outcasts who “got” each other. Close as brothers.

Literally the *entire* "BloodSugarSexMagick" album is S-tier; it is their best album, bar none. Their previous 4 albums are some GREAT music, and some great prog-rock; you can hear them developing that crazy up-front bass + funk style that they perfect in BSSM. Every album after "BloodSugarSexMagick" is one tier or another of middle-of-the-road tripe; they mostly all sound like someone's fan-fic of RHCP. :D

The album "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" is a banger from beginning to end! I listen to it without skipping a track! Still in my playlist after all these years. In my top ten favorite albums! 💯

You guys need to watch their DVD called FUNKY MONKS. It's a documentary on how they made this album . INCREDIBLE

Fun fact, at least for me, due to socks on jocks my wife hated the RHCP and then I played this and she was like "Love it". This song is a banger, so funky.

Soul To Squeeze is one of my favorite bass lines of all time. I'd love to see the reaction!

This album is like going into dimly lit smoky back room and some dude is like “have you heard BSSM?”

I don't mind Jaco or Flea winning a poll about bass, but do not pass on "Add It Up" as a song. It is an S Tier song of the 80s in the same class as three you know--Tunnel of Love, Ashes to Ashes, Spirit of Radio. It's that good.

You guys nailed this reaction. Everything you said. This is a very cool song, from a very cool band. From a very cool album. The only thing you failed to see is the genius of John Frusciante, but that wasn't really on display here.
