The best "Paul McCartney can write a great song on the spot" story is this one from wiki about his song "Picasso's Last Words": In an interview on British TV channel ITV1 for the program *Wings: Band on the Run* , to promote the November 2010 rerelease of the original album, McCartney says he was on vacation in Montego Bay, Jamaica where he "snuck" onto the set of the film *Papillon* where he met Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen. After a dinner with Hoffman, with McCartney playing around on guitar, Hoffman did not believe that McCartney could write a song "about anything", so Hoffman pulled out a magazine where they saw the story of the death of Pablo Picasso and his famous last words, "Drink to me, drink to my health. You know I can't drink anymore." McCartney created a demo of the song and lyrics on the spot, prompting Hoffman to exclaim to his wife: "look, he's doing it … he's doing it!"

Best concert song! In Sacramento, two brothers ages about 7 and 10 and their parents were in the row in front of us. The boys knew all the Beatles songs but had no idea Wings even existed. This song starts, they are nodding along until the chorus. The pyrotechnic blasts timed with the orchestral frenzy ; those kids shot ups like rockets. At the end the youngest one was yelling at Dad "THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!" Me too, kid.

"Bones and piccolo, oh my! And the way PM unleashes the french horns! McCartney absolutely nailed the "Bond" feel on this chart. And how that last chord fades into the first screenshot, fantastic!

There's nothing like experiencing this song from the front row of a Paul concert. I came home smelling of gunpowder. :)

To get the full effect of the song, you should listen to it while watching the movie's opening title sequence, music is matched to images on screen; not initially meant to be heard as a stand-alone rock song. Still an all-time banger, especially when Paul plays this in concert.

This is one that's really worth seeing live. I highly recommend the live version he did for the 2005 Super Bowl concert, since it's professionally filmed, and it's like he does it at all his concerts.

One of the best soundtracks of the 70's is from the movie "Superfly", and the best song from the soundtrack is "Freddy's Dead". "Freddie's Dead" was ruled ineligible for the Academy Award for Best Original Song because its lyrics are not sung in the film Super Fly. You two need to hear this one. Remember this song is from 1972.

I’ve always liked Paul’s multipart songs like this one. Uncle Albert, The Pound is Sinking and what about side 2 of Abbey Road? Also his voice back then was absolutely killer. Paul was actually one of the best screamers. 🤘😳🤘

My older brother, may he RIP, l took me to the drive-in to see a double feature of Live and Let Die and Enter The Dragon. This song is an unforgettable opening. At the time and at my young age of 13, that was an amazing, thrilling, action packed double feature. Good movies, good music, good friends, good weed. Thanks, Big Bro. Good times!

"Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five" by Sir Paul McCartney's Wings is a dope tune gentleman, the closing song from his amazing album Band on the Run. I prefer you both hearing a new song, so give it a try, you will not be disappointed. About this reaction, I prefer Sir Paul's version over GnR's, they didn't really make it their own. Like how Nazareth makes Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight" 100% Nazareth, it F*cking rocks.

I went to see Paul McCartney at Fenway Park in Boston a few years ago. It was a great concert from start to finish, but during "Live And Let Die" the crowd went insane as rockets were shooting off from every corner of Fenway Park into the night sky over downtown Boston. Flames were shooting 50 feet into the air atop the Green Monster. I've been to too many concerts to count over the years and have seen every classic rock band you can think of, but that moment at Fenway Park was one of the coolest things I've ever seen!

You have to know at the time that any Bond theme that came before this were never Rock songs which since then is true for more than half of them. The producers first listened and wanted Shirley Bassey to do it but McCartney said take it or leave it. My version or you don’t get it. Killer tune and when he does it live it has pyrotechnics that really bring it out as a show stopper.

I really like your dogs. There`s not a chance in hell Guns & Roses` version is better than McCartney`s. This is one of the best tunes I have ever seen done live anywhere. On the 1977 "Wings Over America " tour McCartney pulled out all the stops with explosions, lasers & a full horn section. It sounded incredible live. This tune is minimum A plus all the way. Great show guys.

When i was about 5 years old I had a small record player and a bunch of old singles, this was one of them & I used to listen to it non-stop. Cut to 1991 when i went to London to see GnR, this was before UYI was released, they played this song & I couldnt believe how good it was. Today I LOVE both versions equally I think, they're both pretty similar really.
