The DMT reference was the song Parabol/Parabola. A true story of a young man that lived near area 51 and was taken into custody and they recorded his comedown. And the artwork is from Alex Grey, a Buddhist. And as a nugget of gold, the original videos, when they released Undertow, were designed and produced by the guitarist, Adam Jones, who was an apprentice to the INCREDIBLE SFX makeup artist Rick Baker. 👍😊

OK first of all the artwork you’re seeing is by Alex Gray, yes it’s DMT inspired. The basic idea is that DMT explains the universe being one. This song is about personal evolution. What was on the screen that you weren’t really Reading was explaining the shadow. The shadow is what we hide from ourselves in the subconscious. The goal is to bring the subconscious into conscious thought, basically. You guys are the perfect age to be digging into this The whole album is psychological. Enjoy.

Tool have mastered tone. They have got perfectly compatible and satisfying tone at every point of every sound they make. Nothing is out of place as they are Rush level musicians and that perfection of tone is pleasing to my ears.

Right on gwalia2112. There is a definitive difference in the musicianship of bands like Rush & Tool. But also a deep level of true humanity. These are some of our best teachers & it comes from a significant amount of solitary self inspection & the experiences of their lives as a whole. WE don't know any other way to get through to the people other than expressing our true talents & confirmed truths. It can make for a quite difficult existence in this artificial world of TV & fast foods. We dont quite understand. Please come along!

@@mowattbigsly2996 This is really true. I'm a huge fan of a few but Rush is the biggest. Being a Rush fan is a way of life, it goes down deep. I don't care what people think but it helpe keep me grounded and makes me a better person. Now I'm older and got a family it's different but certainly when I was younger, wilder, on the edge... Rush, Kate Bush.. all helps. I also love Death , Black Sabbath, Radiohead more... Depths are there to enjoy.

No doubt. I first truly listened to Rush as a 17 yr old in '96, well after I was a die hard teenage Tool fan. And all I can say is I was totally frozen as I listened. And also felt quite awkward that I hadn't tuned in earlier even though no one I knew listened to them. My first listen was 'Hold Your Fire', widely regarded as maybe their worst album. That should tell you something as its still in my top 3 Rush selections. I became excited to move into adulthood having this knowledge. Endlessly rocking, & totally psychedelic. These nerds had it down & they only got better as they went along their musical path. Best band ever hands down. RUSH!!!

@@mowattbigsly2996 Hold Your Fire is an awesome album. With the right settings, headphones, gear.. whatever, you can hear some really intricate stuff not instantly noticeable with the very accessible sound, especially the base. It's a really good album. I bought it the day of release, just happened to be in the shop and was at first seriously upset how crap it was. Took a while but I realised it's actually awesome.

Their live performance is so unique and minimalistic. They are not running around the stage, jumping up and down, crowd diving and all that crazy stuff. Both Adam Jones and Justin Chancellor standing still and rarely moving while Maynard standing behind everybody to the left of drum set holding mic stand and doing his body movements as a rhythm keep on going. But lightning show is just incredible every time they perform. You should react to Tool - Third Eye (Salival version) and No Quarter (from Salival album as well) which is Led Zeppelin cover. The best cover I have ever heard. May be even better than original

I am enjoying watching you young pups getting into Tool. I am old as shit and was lucky to see them a number of times live in the 90s. Keep the Tool coming and I will keep watching. I'm sure you've heard this before, but Maynard in an interview had said one time that the band does the music and then sends it to him and he puts the lyrics to it. And then they get together and do what they do.

The rhythm (time signatures) of the song complement the theme in the lyrics. It can be viewed as being in traditional 4/4, but it feels different. the 4/4 measure can be broken down into one measure of 7/8 followed by a measure of 9/8, and that pattern is continuous throughout the song. If you wanted to count it out this is how it would go..... 7/8 (1212123) 9/8 (121212312) and so on and so forth.

Artwork is by Alex Grey, both he and Tool are advocates on the use of hallucinogenic substances. Alex grey is featured in the DMT documentary on Netflix. The band and artist paired together for the album and stage art for Lateralus and 10,000 days albums. I took my son to his first concert to see Tool just a few days ago (May 8th). It was an incredible experience. As for the song, you guys had it right. It's all about looking within, making changing, and growing as a person. In particular not letting the negativity both internal and external to yourself drag you down and keep you from reaching your potential. It is displayed as reaching 46 + 2 chromosomes, which would be a new step in human evolution.

the Pan's Labyrinth thing... not the official video. Okay, you guys have hooked me. a public service to you, your tool playlist--Prison Sex, Intolerance, Schism, Wings for Marie parts 1 and 2, Jambi. And then, Maynard is also the lead singer of A Perfect Circle. So, you want to do Judith, Magdalena, 3 Libras, The Doomed, TalkTalk and Disillusioned.

All the art work is from Alex Grey. However inspired by Dmt it is not all about drugs. The spirit molicule (dmt) is in all of us. A tool discussion and drugs and dmt and art and anything lyric wise can all be subject to each person. This is why TOOL is the 8th wonder of the world \m/

You guys really get into the music, it goes down deep. Please try something utterly different. Kate Bush, Hello Earth. It's a part of a greater whole but is essentially folk in space seeing a storm unfold on earth and are impotent to help. It's deeper than that BUT please give it a go, very unusual song. She is one of my favourites and sits on a lofty perch with no peers.

Go deep into the woods by YOURSELF. Build a large fire. Take 5 grams of mushrooms and deal with yourself. Maybe you will begin to understand these lyrics better. Then, do it again. There is a whole other world for you to exist in. That's where you can find us fun folk hanging out. No joke guys. Keep exploring these truly otherworldly bands like Tool, Rush, Floyd, etc. Its all about peace, love & understanding!!

MAD SEASON.... Best unknown band. Although it does feature Alice In Chains frontman & Pearl Jam lead guitarist. Well known by some but not most. Once you delve in to it, you'll be mesmerized & hooked for life. Be ready for some years my friends.
