Thanks for the overview of using a catch can, Andy. I fitted one in my car last summer, a bit fiddly without removing the inlet manifold, but perfectly doable. One thing worth mentioning is that you need to maintain it. Empty and clean out the can every now and then. Quick and easy to do, but also easy to forget. By the looks of the contents of yours, it seems the previous owner was a bit sloppy in doing so.

@@Kenny_Ded thanks Kenneth, I think mine has been separating in the can which is why it looks like it does.

Thank you! Much appreciated. It’s a good way to rid the car of a lot of degrading pipework.

Hello Andy! can you do a video on the drain tubes for roadsters? Would love to see it :) . Just bought my 225 MK1 roadster
@andychargerАй бұрын
Funnily enough, I thought my drain tubes had failed recently and thought I was going to need to do this video. However, it was just the drain entrances in the roof void that were blocked. So if you too are suffering from moisture in the car and wet in the CCM space, check that the drain entrances are free of debris. They are like a small "Cross" just behind the door pillar when it meets the roof in a plastic recess.
@sundarmg6532Ай бұрын
@@andycharger Ah brilliant will do! Will try and get a bit of old copper wiring down it and see if it disloges it.
@andychargerАй бұрын
@ try and tape the end so it is not sharp. If the tube is ok the last thing you want to do is rip it. They are like a thick polythene over a wire coil for rigidity 👍

I had an idea that I'd like to run by. What if I used a firewall-mount remote oil filter as my catch can? Every time I change the engine oil, just change out the cheap oil filter on the remote oil filter mount?
@andycharger23 күн бұрын
Im pretty sure the oil filter is designed to let the oil through rather than prevent it from flowing so enough oil vapour would still get through rather than being trapped. While it will filter out the impurities, it will let the oil vapour through in time.

Maybe a daft question, but is this applicable to the 3.2 ??
@andychargerАй бұрын
@@sportalepies not a daft question at all mate. The 3.2 V6 does not suffer with the carbon build up on the valves like the 1.8T engine so it’s not really necessary. Plus there is no TIP to vent it to! 👍

Fitted a catch can to my '03 225 one year ago. PCV system was obviously leaking however it was not until I removed it that the full state of degradation became apparent. Too many splits and rotting hoses.
@andychargerАй бұрын
Absolutely Jack. A perfect reason to do away with the PCV hoses and get the Catch can on. Well done! 👍

Do you recommend an oil cooler combo?
@andychargerАй бұрын
@@jsan4864 thanks for the comment. I guess if you have the car mapped or working harder than standard, the oil will get hotter. If the car is standard or you have issues with high oil temps, maybe. As a standard car an additional oil cooler is not required. I hope that helps
@peterosborne7Ай бұрын
How do you clean them out andy
@andychargerАй бұрын
Hi Peter. In the video you will see me unscrew the can. Simply tip the contents into a container and dispose of at your local recycling centre that takes motor oil. Once empty it is good to go again 👍
@Joe-he1bvАй бұрын
My pcv and N72 got deleted I don’t have a catch can it goes back into the turbo
@andychargerАй бұрын
Yep one way to do it but it is still putting the vapour back into your combustion cycle. So it could oil up your turbo or deposit on the valves. Good solution to get rid of that PCV though due to age! 👍
@Joe-he1bvАй бұрын
@ thank you for your reply. Basically, my specialist gave me two options of doing it either get a can or put it back into the turbo like Audi designed and it’s been like that for a year now I had no problems.
@andychargerАй бұрын
@@Joe-he1bv Hi Joe. Thats good to know there has been no problem. Hopefully the oil vapour is fairly minimal and by removing the rubber pipes, that eliminates those breaking down and sending bits off to the turbo. Always go with the specialist advice. You have their guarantee should anything go wrong too. Happy motoring! Have you done any performance mods to the car?
@Joe-he1bvАй бұрын
@ no it’s a soft top blue convertible to be honest it’s so low mileage it spends most of its time in the garage be I take on road trips in the summer I love the car and just want to take care of it. The only mod I did was put a twin exhaust on Audi R8 coil packs. I love your channel by the way.
