Love those videos, please more of it! Maybe even also from the solo album? Regarding the weird midi playback dropouts: do you have ASIO Guard enabled in Cubase? (not sure if version 7.5 also had that though). It saves a huge amount of processing power. (what it basically does is it only run the monitoring enabled tracks with a low latency and all the other ones with a higher one to save a lot of performance. it then does some magic in the background so still have them synced up. the only disadvantage is that you get a slight delay of a few miliseconds when you press play until playback really starts but that's it)

Thanks for these videos, Andy! They are really interesting and show your immense work on all your tracks. Personally, I'd appreciate a video about mixing a basic song (or just a part of one). I'm already struggling getting guitars, bass & drums to sound good, and here you are with your "demo" track with its quality that blows me away!
@andygillion4 жыл бұрын
I can certainly do that in the future. My honest advise though, is other than getting a good balance with panning and volume, the real secret behind a good sound is just simply starting with good sounds. My guitar tone is set up so I can just go and record when I get an idea and the samples I use for drums and orchestra sound great out the box. Try to get a basic setup rhat already sounds good and you'll be sorted
@AcraniusCH4 жыл бұрын
@@andygillion Thanks for your answer! Yeah, without having proper guitar / bass sounds your mix will end up sounding bad. Taking the time to set up a good guitar sound is worth the effort, so I'll go back and revisit that before worrying about the whole mix. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to preorder your new album!
@fysy99894 жыл бұрын
I'd love to see more of these, if you are up for it, the entire new album when it is out and some classics as well. Have you considered selling a digital pack with individual instrument tracks like Wintersun did (drums, vocals, bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, orchestration)? So people could easily mix their own version of a song, or use them for song covers if they aren't afraid :D

Awesome stuff! Could listen to you enthusiastically talk about the ins an outs of your songs all day long! I really love how the, how you called it, very black metal chorus, does sound completely different in my ears now after having heard all the individual guitar parts. You haven't really talked about the drums a lot. Was that intentional since they were kind of "secundary" when writing such a huge song? As for songs to dissect next, since I am a total sucker for blast beats and the more extreme stuff from Mors, I would love to hear you talk about "What the Future Holds?"!
@andygillion4 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! I could talk more about the drums but at this stage I'm really focussing on the other elements as the drums were retracked by Marko Tommila in Finland based on the MIDI ones you'll hear in this video
@yzn3rf4 жыл бұрын
@@andygillion Right, I get it. So what you could show us in Cubase would not really reflect what later made it to the song. If you ever run out of ideas for this video series you could in that case maybe show off that process of MIDI drums to real drums on one example. Would definitely dig that! :)
