He is brilliant!!! No other gymnasts perform still rings routine with that swing and strength perfection, it is truly mastery level and 16.600 isn't his best score, he did 17.300 and this is outstanding! I'm absolutely amazed, an epic still rings performer

When Chen Yibing is in his best form, no one can beat him as he's the best on the rings, now or ever. He's the one and only.

Most ring routines are tough to watch, but I couldn't remove my eyes when i saw this. The best ring routine I've seen.

It's got nothing to do with the size of their muscles. Their arms actually do bend backwards slightly. It's not uncommon for people to have hyper extension in their elbows like that, but it tends to be exaggerated in rings gymnasts because of the stress that rings places on the elbow joint.

This is so unfair! I watched this on NBC and even the commentator was surprised when Brazil got a higher score. He even said personally I thought Chen's performance was a little bit more perfect!

well, i'm not too sure about this, it's just a guess, but for rings you get deducted everytime you swing (particularly when holding a strength position), and also, his feet may have been too far apart when he landed to count as a stick, which also may have been deduction.

I was wondering, did they change the pointing system between this olympics and the next ones? Because I haven't seen this difficulty puntuation in the next Worlds Championships or olympics. The same Yibing had a 6.8 difficulty in London Would like a response, thanks.

They update Code of Points in regular intervals. They've changed it again for the 2017-2020 period, you can check out the FIG site for the new changes.

The rules change for each olympiad (every 4 years). Back then you used to get +0.1 for moving to a higher hold, here he has from cross to maltese +0.1, maltese to invert +0.1, cross to invert +0.1, also the honma to maltese used to be F, now it doesn't exist. D+E+E+D+D+D+E+F+C+D=7,0 + 0,3 for combinations = 7,3. Plus the judging used to be way easier, with nowadays judging this would have gotten around 7,5 for execution instead of the 9,3 he got, and his jonasson & both honmas to hold (cross and maltese) might have received a non-recognition due to going through support. Hope this helps :)

Just before Olympic Games. In fact, in Beijing and i don't know why that happend , he's difficulty score was lower as he usually did, becouse he drop few strength moves like pull to maltese (balandin) or maltese push to planche maybe it's was a strategy chineese coach... i don't seen here video when he did 17.3 but here is he's 17.0 => watch?v=UpcgyCkGmtg Enjoy :)

Funny, that's exactly what your wife said about you. Only a true champion could display such class as Chen did, despite being treated unfairly by the judges. That's something a desperate Brazilian like yourself could never hope to comprehend, Even Zanetti knew who was truly better, judging from his surprised expression. So I just have to point out that this whole mockery of Olympic sportsmanship shows how little Brazil has going for itself and is far from producing a real champion in gymnastics.

But that's not what your wife said when mine were wrapped around her. Right, and I suppose the 99.9% of expert analysts on TV around the world, former Olympic champions and coaches, and the U.S. gymnastics team were all wrong, or they all simply conspired to call it in favor of the Chinese athlete because they all just hated Zanetti when they saw his face. Only a desperate Brazilian starving for a gold medal handout could continue to fabricate excuses to justify Zanetti's undeserved medal.
