Great Video! Two questions if you have time. How do you work on getting a full bite? And, like someone else asked, how do you work on a quick release?
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The first step to the quick release is teaching the dog to ‘switch’ to an identical toy. Have another tug in your pocket, then teach the dog the word ‘switch’ means let go and grab the other toy! The tug in its mouth becomes ‘dead’ and the new tug is ‘alive’ 👍🏻 For the full bite, create lots of tension on a shallow grip, pull pull pull then release the tension and the dog should dive into the grip bc they’re were barely hanging on. Once they do this let them win the toy then rinse and repeat 🙏🏼

Great video. How do you end the tug game with your dogs? I mean how can you take the tug away without being a jerk in the eyes of your dogs
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Change your mindset about that. You and your dog are not equals. It is not like taking away a fun game that your child is enjoying. They have a time and place to play, when it’s over, it’s over. Just like recess 👍🏻

Great video Andy! Also thanks for getting back to me via email it was really appreciated. My question for you is, I know in your last Q&A Ivan got brought up and he uses the concept of misses during his "possession games" to build confidence. When the dog misses Ivan suggests that you don't just give the toy/tug back to them, rather make them "chase/earn" it, and the struggle/tug begins where you eventually let your dog win. What is your take on this?
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes this is true. My video is focused on targeting. More talking about a dog that likes to bite and knows how to tug, not a puppy who’s play drive needs improvement 👍🏻

hi andy! i came across your page and have been getting a lot of wonderful insight on working with the Malinois breed. i am potentially adopting a 3 month old who has a congenital deformity in his back legs (no show or work involved for this guy). i am wondering if you have tips on how to appropriately train/work with a trainer given his special condition? he won’t be able to jump and will need wheels as an adult, but i want to maximize his potential nonetheless!
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
Wow, amazing, thank you for sharing 🙏🏼 Just off the top of my head, I’d recommend building mental confidence and independence. Even though he will be special needs, he still deserves to be treated like a normal dog (physical limitations considered of course) You don’t want to feel bad for the dog, this will not empower him but rather limit him further. I wouldn’t overly praise/ pet him, coddle, have him by you all the time, this will create separation anxiety which will cause a new set of problems. He may be limited, but is still a malinois. If you have a confident, matter of fact presence about yourself, command respect and live with a healthy amount of daily separation, this will actually put him at ease and allow him to thrive!

It's really a problem on the technique ppl use to give mises , there's a Robert Cabral video explaining it very well, my mal puppy targeting might not be on point but I rarely get bit playing tug, and we do it like 3 to 4 time a day at the end of obedience training, all as sweet and short as posible to keep her busy without burning her interest. So far so good, she turned once on my arm playing tug and I made sure she understood that was not a thing to do and when she went calm again restart the tug play cuz it wasnt really a big deal, she didnt fully bite more like Im going crazy and I switch to your arm when the tug slips out so whatever, was more like a learning experience for both of us lol.
