In this video I replace the rubber fuel hose and old fuel filter with a new hard fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburetor. I also use Edelbrock's hard line kit to complete the full hard line.
Edelbrock Fuel Line Kit - #8131 amzn.to/3OtNrep
Formed Fuel Line from the pump to the carb - Purchased off Ebay (also see brand Right stuff, part number ZPC6602)
Black fuel line adapter fitting - 5/16 tube to -6AN fitting amzn.to/40b9UBa
The car is a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a factory V8 and C4 transmission.
Shot with GoPro Hero 8 with the Media Mod, edited on Davinci Resolve 17.

Andy, sincerely appreciate the tutorial videos. These are very well done with logical next steps(parts needed) for a first time Noob. I've been relying on your content to work on my 65' convertible Mustang. Just want to say thank you!

Hey Andy, Great mod! I ended up doing something similar on my vehicle. Someone originally replaced the hard line with a long rubber fuel hose.
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I have wondered why someone would do that, the hard line looks official, whereas the rubber hose looks like a quick-fix. Maybe people do it because they damaged the hard line? Or maybe they do it for more flexibility with line routing? I don't know, but I like it now! :)

Thanks for the refresher. It came just in time. I had gotten the generic autozone Spectre one long time ago and it's leaking again. I was in line for a birthday drive by honk parade thing yesterday and had to go back home since it began to leak. Looking for the black Edelbrock one but appears to be out of stock everywhere. Going to call a couple of suppliers to see if they have it in stock. Wish me luck.

Super cool video. Thanks for the info. I am going to buy this similar line. I got the same edelbrock 90 line with filter. I just need to buy the pre-bend line and fitting. Also, I thought you would of needed to at least flare the line to make it fit... but super cool you don't need to with this fitting.
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had to flare the end of the hard line when I did it on my last car, but I was able to find that compression fitting which removes that need for the extra flare tool. :)

@@AndyKruseChannel Yeah that is super cool. I am going to be another adaptor to go from the fuel like to the fuel pump. I have an Edelbrock fuel pump and it has 3/8 NPT fittings I think... So I am going to get one of these adaptor from 5/16 line to a 3/8 NPT

Like that adapter so you do not need to screw the filter into the carb. After that you risk damage to carb each time you change the filter. I once replaced hard lines on a GTO with rubber. (wrong) Split several times.

I like it too, I'm glad it's something that Edelbrock recommends with their Carbs. :)

I ended up going under the heater hose. You may need to also do that when you get the heater done.

Nice job on the video Andy. I am curious if you are happy with the new jets, rods, and spring making the 1406 perform as if it’s a 1405?? PCV hose connects to #52 large port just to the right of #50 where your vacuum advance is currently hooked. You should get a better response if you switch vacuum advance hose to #51 the full time vacuum port. Based on heater hose configuration, I will guess that the heater box assembly might be a future video.
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I follow as the vacuum advance line from the distro to the carb is connected to the Timed Vacuum Port. The other port on the front of the carb is the Manifold Vacuum Port and everything I see and read tells me to use the Timed Vacuum Port (where it's currently connected). I'm not sure what I want to do with the heater. It's not functional (despite the hose not being connected) and it likely needs a rebuild. It would probably be a good video down the road, but I've got other plans for now. :)
@631Rogers

Check page 21 of the Edelbrock 1406 manual for schematics. Three ports looking towards carb from front of car. Ported vacuum-50 (left), pvc port-52 (middle), and full-time vacuum port-51 (right). Your vacuum advance is plugged into the ported vacuum. I was suggesting switching to the full-time vacuum port.

I see now that the riser under the carb is key. Just put one of these hard line kits on mine and it’s pointed right into the heater core line. But if I add a riser under mine, pretty sure the air cleaner will hit the hood. Good times

Where did you get the fitting that you installed on the end of the filter and had a compression fitting to tie into the fuel line. I can not find that fitting.

Hi Andy, what kind of spacer do you have under your carb in this video? My Edelbrock adapter with filter (same as your here) is down real low and will not clear the heater hose. Can I use a car spacer to raise it up? The fuel filter seems to be picking up a lot of heat off of the manifold.
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Ай бұрын
It's a 1 inch Phenolic Carb spacer. I purchased that one off eBay, but lots of places sell them, and they have different heights too. :)

How far into the fitting on the filter does the line need to go? Mine won’t go all the way in and leaks.
@AndyKruseChannel

The hard line should rest up against a "stop" on the inside of the male fitting. Make sure the small brass-beveled adapter is on the hardline and the female portion of the fitting too before you assemble it all. As long as you have all the same pieces that I have in the video, you should be good, just make sure the hard line is "bottomed out" on the inside of the male part of the fitting. :)

Great video, as usual! Bought the same Edelbrock kit, but I'm going to run a 90° & go across the intake to the drivers side because my 1969 hardline runs on that side. Did you use any plumbers tape on the threaded fittings? Also have you had any issues of the fittings becoming loose? I feel like they might over time & leak gas. No bueno! Thanks Andy, all your videos give me the confidence & really dial in my stanger 🤘👌
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Ай бұрын
Thanks! No plumber's tape on fuel lines, it doesn't jive well with the fuel. No issues with loose fittings, but I didn't have that setup long enough to see if anything rattles loose over time. But I'll keep my eye on my current setup to make sure there's no issues, and I'll let everyone on my channel know if I find something. :)
@dangerman1969
@dangerman1969 Ай бұрын
We don't need no jive turkeys going on in the engine bay! 😆 I'm going to use a pressure gauge also, what's your opinion/experience with them on placement? Should I put the fuel filter 1st, then the gauge, or vise versa? Is it ok to have them right next to eachother or space them out a little bit?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Ай бұрын
@@dangerman1969 Gauge after filter, just in case there's any loss of pressure in the filter, you'll see the actual pressure going into the Carb. Spacing is not critical. :)

Hi Andy, is your fuel line stainless or aluminum or steel? I'm asking because I looked up the 6AN to 5/16 flair and it said: Note: Only applicable to stainless steel or aluminum hard-line. just wanted to make sure you saw that note. I know this video is old and that motor is not in the car now. Thanks keep up the great work. Steve
@AndyKruseChannel

It was steel, but I think that note is so people don't use it on PTFE lines, and stuff like that. :)
