In addition to shop towels in intake, I like to use 2" tape covering the enitre opening. You can use a anti-vibration thread sealer all in one on the bolts as an option. No clutch cover dowels?? Always nice to start with a clean slate, all parts and work area clean. 👍
@AndyKruseChannel2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think that tape would work a little better, next time! This clutch does not use dowels, the clutch bolts have a shoulder on them to hold the clutch like the dowels would have done. :)

I try to keep the entertaining stuff for the videos and keep the boring stuff out as to not force people to watch something that requires little to no skill. I try to balance interesting content with "this is good for people to know'" kind of content, and frankly some of this stuff is neither. Lastly, there are some tasks that really could be done a 100 different ways and my way of doing some of those tasks may not be the correct way or the best way. I'm just like everyone else and I can get a little lazy with some things and I have no interest in showing that stuff as the finished product is sometimes more important than the journey. :)

@@AndyKruseChannel you know the internet sometimes 🤣 people might take things wrong. I want to be more clear here. I was ribbing you,, joking you. I honestly think what you're doing is awesome. There's nothing easy about video publishing on KZbin. I have video documented a bunch of stuff on my Harley's over the years. And sometimes making the video I didn't enjoy working on the Harley as much. Definitely super nice if you can keep that balance and still enjoy the work on the car and build a brand at the same time and make some parts and sell them I think it's all good man keep going. I'm still searching for a Mustang I haven't found the right one I don't want one that is turn key and done too much and I don't want one that needs major restored. Andy...just found your channel...great work! Really interested in the dual fan setup. Any chance you know the overall dimension of the "thinkness" of the fan/shroud after your mods? I put a 390 into my 67 Mustang and have run into the same issue you did with the water pump pulley and the single fan motor.
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
Max thickness is 5.5", but the thickness where your water pump pulley is located is on 4.75". This is because the extra thickness for the two electric fans are not in the middle of the Rad, they're off to each side, giving a little bit of space back to you for your water pump pulley to be located. :)

Andy, Just curious if you checked to see if the bellhousing is within the .005 spec of run out needed for the T-5 transmission so that the input shaft will not be under any excess stresses to the tapered bearings. When the bellhousing is found to be out of spec, it is necessary to use offset dowel pins to correct the bellhousing location. I will be installing a T-5 this winter and I've been watching videos about indexing the bellhousing. If you have also watched videos about this check, is it something you feel is necessary? Thank you for all the videos you have published.
@AndyKruseChannel2 жыл бұрын
Tremec recommends the measuring for total run-out, and I too have seen videos where they measure it. I have no interest in the liability of telling someone not to do it, but I did not measure for run-out.
@nitesky0012 жыл бұрын
Well hopefully your bellhousing is within spec or your T-5 will feel the stresses. Side note: I never imagined that a disclaimer for liability was needed or I would have worded my question differently. I'm sorry my wording put you in that position. Too bad that the US court system has devolved to a point where car enthusiasts have to state disclaimers to each other.
@havasumark2 жыл бұрын
Nice video. Question, did you need to index your bellhousing prior to installing the transmission. I know Tremec does require it.

Have you seen those Jba long tube headers that work with a t5 cable set up for 65 and 66 Stang’s? There’s two versions. 1-5/8 primaries or 1-3/4 primaries. Also where did you get the trans scissor lift? Great content by the way
@AndyKruseChannel2 жыл бұрын
I know there are several headers (Long and Tri-Y) that fit with the cable option (MDL has a list on their site), but most of them are outside my budget. If I had it my way, I would have purchased FPA Tri-Y headers, but they're over 3x the price I paid for these shorties. Maybe someday..... :) Trans scissor lift was from Harbor Freight, I paid about $135 for it.

Enjoying your videos. How do you like the T5? I just picked up my 1st mustang, 4 spd. Shifting is vague. I usually get 3rd when going for 1st. Don't know if it's the linkage, the box, or just the nature of the beast. But I suspect the T5 would be crisper.
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I really enjoy the smooth shifting of the T5, but also the overdrive. I put one in my last Mustang (upgrading from the T10 4 speed) and it was buttery smooth the whole time. I doubt it's the linkage causing your issue as I had that same problem on my 4 speed. It took me a little bit to get that muscle-memory of where 1st was. :)

@@AndyKruseChannel Thanks. Is there a conversion kit that you can recommend? I see one on CJ but it has mixed reviews.
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
@@bryanpiereson8083 I don't know of anyone selling a kit, partially because different cars require slightly different parts, and some parts can be pulled from the existing car where other parts may not be salvageable. hi Andy , great video as always , I’ve been reading about the T5 and it’s fragility when increasing the output of the motor , do you have any thoughts ?
@AndyKruseChannel2 жыл бұрын
The fragility of this trans is absolutely on my mind, but I'll be fine for a few reasons. When I was doing the rebuild on my T5, I upgraded and replaced some of the known failure points with better parts. The trans is rated for about 330 ftlbs of torque, but that's the rated value and it can absolutely see more but it depends on how and when you apply that higher Tq value. If decided to spend my time doing 5k clutch drops, I'll shred the trans in no time. Maybe not on the first try, but sending all the TQ I've got to a stationary gear system all at once is exactly how I'll break it. However, if I need to do a sweaty burnout, feathering the clutch as I send all that power through the trans will push that breaking point out to a later date, much later. And that's the worst of it, because while I'm driving, everything is moving and "happier" when higher TQ values are being seen by the trans. Even some spirited driving will be fine, because everything is already turning inside the trans and I'm not dumping all the power on a single tooth that isn't ready for it. These trans have been used in road race cars for decades with essentially the same internal parts I'm using and high power applications. Long story short, as long as I limit my 5k clutch drops, this trans will be just fine. But if not, it's an opportunity to upgrade and more content for my channel!! :)
@stevewood66602 жыл бұрын
@@AndyKruseChannel fair points mate, I was at the autosport international (Birmingham UK) show yesterday and some guy was trying to talk me into a TKO, instead of rebuild my t5, I’m on a budget so have to careful where I put my money, so after your reply I’m going to look at rebuilding the T5 , It’s more of a tourer than a drag car, but it may do a few runs sometime in the future, but no 5k clutch dropping 😂cheers for the reply 🤙
