Dr. Bose was my inspiration to learn how acoustics and audio works when I was in high school. I was fortunate to work for the company while I was in college on the retail side. I left after I graduated because I got a job in the field I studied for. The accusticwave II was released several months before I left. In the 3+ years I was there I felt appreciated because the company really cared for their employees. Dr. BOSE you are missed. Awesome review 🤙

I agree. And they could have done it as the unit has 2 tweeters and a sub inside. I heard it’s because they didn’t want it for the younger market at the time

The unit sounds good for what it is. I have one along with the optional pedestal. The main issue with Bose products is that the majority of them have been overpriced for what they are. Their success is more due to their marketing to consumers then the "innovative" technology of their products. Bose spent far more money on marketing then they did in research. Additionally they had very specific rules for their authorized dealers. Rules on where products would be displayed on a dealer's showroom, what demo material to use. Which made it more difficult for A\B comparisons to be done with competitors products. Additionally Bose set the pricing which meant dealers could not offer discounts unless it was a offered by Bose.

For these to sound there best they have to be warmed up. For some reason when the system is cold just turned on it's doesn't sound nearly as good as if it's been on for at least half an hour.

I've been waking up, and dozing off, to a Bose wave radio clock for nearly twenty years. It was about 10x the cost of the usual terrible bedside CD clock/radio and never regretted spending more. For about a decade has been via phone plugged in to the aux input but the CD and radio still work fine. Agree they don't match a 'proper hifi' but a league ahead of the comparable devices on the market then, and now.

I assume the wavegide is delaying the rear wave until it's delayed by 180 degress (half a wavelength) so that it combines with the front wave instead of cancelling. The only downside is that there will be a slight delay so the waves aren't going to match at beggining and end of the waveform, there will be an offset, also since its a port it will have a tuned frequency which means probably not a smooth frequency response, and they could have just used better drivers and passive radiators in the same size cabinet and gotten better performance especially with the prices they charge. They do put a lot of money into R&D but the problem is they use that knowledge to used really cheap materials and acoustic tricks to build overpriced speakers when they could just build a better speaker with better materials and less acoustic manipulation for the same price.

Hello! I have an older model, a 1998. The cd player isn't working. The CD does spin, but it takes some time to do so. I see that you have your system opened up. Would it be difficult to fix the disc part of the device? If not, do you have any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.
@AndrewPeterson599
@AndrewPeterson599 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Are you reffering to the lifestyle 30 or the acoustic wave, as ive made videos on both but only had the lifestyle apart. Aside from making sure that the disc(s) that you play are clean, and the laser isnt dirty, which can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and an ear bud. If that doesnt help then it could be age. The laser might struggle to read. If its the lifestyle then i think there is a clamper mechanism, check to see if this is greased and moving properly. if the grease was dried then it would cause more friction which could result in a longer time for a disc to play from standstill. Hope this helps

Can't bend (pun intended) the laws of physics, the back wave guide allows for a lower FR response AT THE EXPENSE of higher intermodulation and harmonic distortion which no one seems to ever measure, perhaps folks like the added harmonics at the bass region...the high price not only is not worth it, its greed scamming the uninformed. Harmonics are sounds added to the original sound that where not originally part of it.

I didn't know Bose had been around for decades I only started hearing about them in the early 2000s thinking they were hype and I'm still very skeptical and scoff about them even though I have never heard one. I seriously doubt it's anywhere as good as Celestion or Bang and Olufson speakers or hi fi components by Pioneer, Denon or Marantz. I think the new Bose have gone downhill with the latest generation Wave system, very bad move getting rid of nearly all the physical buttons. This might be good for taking from one place to another or as a second system but certainly not a substitute for a stereo with seperate speakers. At least we agree on one thing this is not for an audiophile but I would have to hear a Bose Wave system in person to believe it.

Its funny as i moved onto Bang olufsen products it becomes more obvious the flaws with the Bose. Something sounds great, until you hear something better.
@LittleRichard1988
@LittleRichard1988 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewPeterson599 The only Bang and Olufson speakers I'm familiar with are the ones my Dad bought second hand in the 70sor early 80s. The one good thing about B&O speakers is that they used to make them with keyholes so that you could very easily mount them directly to the wall, my Mum liked Celestion Ditton 22 speakers because they had a more dynamic sound especially if you listen to high quality sound recordings through them. Studio monitors generally tend to be good especially if you go for a well known brand like Yamaha. Until the 70s sometimes top brand mono equipment was better than cheap stereo sets, I think Dr Bose experienced stereo at a time when it was still in it's early days and some early stereo sets were a bit crude compared to more modern stereo sets as with most new technology it was still in development. In some ways Dr Bose was a pioneer no pun intended!

Bought this for 49 bucks. Very dull sounding. Due to its limitations, it's way too bloated at 250 hertz. It's not very forgiving of music with rolled off highs. My cambridge soundworks BLOWS it away. It's cheaper and more controls. I'd rather have a unit that supplies Basin trouble than moving it away from a wall. How does that help high-end lack of it? Like kids love it for their Big Time Rush CD's

I had one on trial from bose for a week , I compared it against a panasonic mini hifi , a quarter of the price , the panasonic won easily with better sound quality , more bass more highs, better sound stage and more volume , I even did blind listening tests with family and friends , all picked the panasonic , I called bose to return their product, he asked me why? I told him 😃, he said my room isn't big enough at 6 metres by 5 metres for the bose to work properly 😂😂😂

I was born in 1998 and it took me a long time to understand that folded ports (“waveguides”) whatever you call it, weren’t around forever. To be fair, tons of old, sealed back stereos build before advanced port “technology” that are older than the wave radio still sound much better. I am of course talking about a large, full range two channel system with passive speakers and an amp. So I don’t quite buy the origin story of Bose not liking “traditional speakers”. Did he buy one pair without even listening to them first and then give up and start to build his own? I will accept Bose pioneered a small full range unit at the time, but no, it didn’t sound better then what was already around in the 60’s and 70’s.
@AndrewPeterson599
@AndrewPeterson599 2 жыл бұрын
Its what I read and understood while researching this video. In a past life I brought and sold many many hifi systems and stereos from the 1960-70s most only ever sounded okay. and mostly they were huge boxes with a speaker or two, no real attempt at controlling soundwaves. Pretty crude. Bose tried to do something different. I cant comment on if his earlier speakers were any good as i havent heard a pair. have you ? :)
@gl4675
@gl4675 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewPeterson599 thank you for your response. Respectfully, I have still heard quite the opposite. There were many higher end systems by the 60’s that sound as good as the best sounding things today from what I have heard and researched. Just like there are tons of junk speakers produced to this day, there were plenty of average pieces manufactured in the 60-70’s Im sure. Speaker technology has allowed us to get great sound from a much smaller and more affordable package. I don’t think the best sound from 2022 tops the best sound from the 60’s, rather it’s just from speakers that can fit in our bedrooms and only cost a couple hundred dollars.
@gl4675

@@AndrewPeterson599 I have not heard any vintage Bose yet sadly. The oldest I’ve heard being the wave radio. I have a pair of zenith speakers from the 70’s or 80’s that sound even better then pioneer stuff of the same size to follow. I’m not trying to bash Bose but I am more curious about the early history and the method Bose used to compare the market at the time. Once again, my gripe with the founding story is that Bose didn’t go to a store and listen to the speakers before buying them, nor does it mention him so much as trying anything else before concluding he had to make his own speakers. I’m sure I’ll hear the 901’s and 301’s at some point in my life. Sadly I don’t think anyone will ever hear the very first original model the Bose 2201. They only made 30 pairs supposedly before changing models to the 901, and they are nowhere to be found today.

@@AndrewPeterson599 an example of a 60’s system that (although I’ve never heard myself) was legendary and extremely valuable to this day, would be the jbl paragon. @@gl4675 you make many good points. Down here in nz hifi was a foreign concept in the 1960s. The stereograms n radiograms we had were typical of the time. Almost all were made here. And average quality. I occasionally had an imported one from say Grundig or an English manufacturer. There was a lot better sound thru those. And yes some of these systems were huge. Early stuff that was decent was maybe a 70s bang and olufsen system.
