Gotta say your storytelling quality is in another level mate - lighting, sound, transitions, camera work and editing overall. But your "pokey-stickey-outey" type comments is the reason I subscribed 4 years ago. Keep 'em up. Back then I did every mod on my Versys following your example. Including Hurric muffler, that probably pissed some neighbours off. And if I may make a suggestion - seeing you getting something more adventurous and not so pristine and tuning it up would make a great content.

Thank you for reminding me to never change the tail assembly and blinker system. The biggest point of failure on second hand bikes are electrical modifications. They’re never as good as factory no matter how good of a job you do. I would also say the signals are too close together and may not adequately differentiate left from right. (?) At any rate, you did an amazing job with the modification. 👍

To be fair, I've only ever had one electrical connection fail on a bike, and that was a factory connection on a 20 year old Yamaha. Hardware failures is another matter, but my connections have always held strong. And the ones on this modification will likely outlast the bike! Plus it would be very easy to revert everything back to stock in an afternoon. He who dares Rodders, he who dares!

Excellent work AMC. I tail tidied my old strom to allow easy wheel removal on tour. Electrics are a problem for me being colour blind, but interesting to watch. That do it yourself bung is genius. 30 minutes of my day definitely not wasted. Learnt something good there, ta. Happy travels, oder gut fahrt.

Cheers TT! Electrics are always a bit of a problem for me too mate, being colour blind as well! I just try to help myself out with logic as much as possible (I've never yet mixed up the brown/red/orange/green cable with the black one!) and also have an electrical tester on hand just to be sure!!

That was a good bit of thinking with the sugru. Absolutely love the stuff, got so many uses. It’s how I made my headlight connections completely waterproof when I ditched the reflector housing on my headlight in favour of a projector setup. Have ridden in biblical rain storms and never had any issues. Great job and gives the tail section a really clean look 👍🏼

Nice work.The bit with that putty to fill in the holes under the seat was really cool. I learned something from that. Thanks. The only thing I might have done would have been to repaint the license plate bracket/ holder. Other than that, really cool work. Love the electrical work too. That is my learned profession originally. The only thing I could criticize is the crimping of the contacts with the needle nose pliers. But, I also know the crimping pliers are really expensive. So, no worries there.

As soon as you mentioned the holes I thought "Sugru", but what a way to do it, nice to learn new ways to use it. I did use a small ball of it between my fairing and a metal bracket while waiting on new screws and washers to arrive, done a great job. Love those tiny LED indicators, doubt I could make use of them on my old bike though, would look a little weird with them just on the back of my ZX9r and the front chunky originals.

I have a Puig undertray for the rear in the body colour and not sure I can use the originals with it, so may be forced to buy some soon.

Thanks Ian. Sadly i can’t agree. Working on the bike has started to show me that Hondas reputation is worryingly unfounded. Lots of bad paint and dodgy welds all over the bike. Plus the level of parts bin speccing is a deeply lazy move from them. Worst of all, they’re not interested in honoring any Kind of warranty claim for the bad paint.

@@AndyManCam Sad news Andy… in the 6 years I had mine (2011 model) the only thing that irked me was the blooming on the exhaust headers. I really shopped around other manufacturers before buying, and found many horribly cheap parts on them, where Honda’s quality was immediately noticeably superior. I really hope your experience isn’t indicative of a change of ethos. Obviously I can’t comment on warranty issues as I never had any issues, so have no idea if that’s always been an issue. Sad news, otherwise.

I guess ultimately the hope is that the mechanics of the bike will be sound for a very long time to come. Sadly I think the execution of the whole package is very poor. I can see the silver of the wheels through the incredibly thin paint. I won't be buying new again.

I'm impressed your getting good at this DIY shit just a couple of tips from an auto electrician don't solder with connectors facing downhill as solder can run into the connector and you can buy crimper to put them connectors on properly but all in all👍

License plates belong up under the rear brake light with minimalist aftermarket turn signal lamps. It’s a beautiful single swing arm bike exposing all that wheel and rubber keeping with the naked theme.The stock license plate holder looks like a conveyor belt scraper and is good for an anchor,looks shit and clunky no matter how much ya frig with it.

Each to their own i guess. I personally think that the number plate up under the brake light looks rubbish and hides the rear end more. I also think that this setup has hugely reduced the chunkiness of the original setup. You don’t have to like it, but i do.

I had to improvise a bit with the wiring as I didn't know exactly where the number plate lights connected into the bike and the actual mounting of the tail tidy to the mudguard hanger was an 'organic' stage of the proceedings!

Cheers Digger. They are completely E-marked, TÜV approved and EU wide road legal. No worries there whatsoever! As long as it's got the right markings and they're fitted correctly (at least 180mm apart and more than 350mm from the road) then all is good in the eyes of the law!

Got to say Andy , that was a good job on the back end of the Honda , I don’t understand bike manufacturers and why they make the back of some bikes so ugly , anyway good job , bikes looking great mate , looking forward to the next instalment . Cheers.

I think more and more, manufacturers are just smashing products out, without ever really bothering to test them, or even think about how the consumers might use them. Shame really. You'd imagine thsat things would get better as we charge into the 'future'. Sadly everything seems to be getting worse. Quick manufacture, quicker sale, short useage life, rinse and repeat.

@@adammills4343 That is sad mate. It’s a real shame. I think in the future I’ll concentrate on getting solidly made old bikes and then making them as good or better than the new ones! I’m a bit invested in this Honda now though. I hate that Honda have left this bad taste in my mouth as i otherwise utterly love the bike! It’s a masterpiece, that was sadly created by the intern, with the bits and bobs left over from a time when Honda was good!

I want to remove the rear axle on my 2019 model, I removed all bolts, sprocket & center Large bolt with a 19mm hex bit but could not pull the axle out (feels very stiff to the pull) is there a way to do it smoothly other than may be hammer the center axle out (from the Sprocket side) ? Reason or is that I want that Axe shaped brake bracket removed so I can get it powder coated. Thank you much. I called some dealers here in the U.S and stunningly they had No idea how to remove it !!! 🙄

Great stuff. Brilliant editing. But why do manufacturers insist in prioritising form over function? It is clear that a lot of thought went into the design of the tail end apart from one thing: no one seems to have checked whether it actually keeps any road crud off the rider, shock etc. Perhaps they assume that no one would use their expensive machines in other than perfect weather or that owners like spending money on aftermarket parts and enjoy the delight of playing hunt the the screw (oh er missus) on the garage floor.

I think that’s sadly true. Smash it together and throw it out to the masses without testing. They’re definitely assuming these bikes won’t see bad weather too as all the paint is coming off mine already. I’m very unhappy about it.

Thanks Dave. It’s from a German company called Stein Dinse. It works, but the spindle is very slim so it’s a bit delicate. No sitting on the bike while it’s on the stand! Could be different for the Z900 though.

Thanks Andy! I would do that, But I have to have it registered in to the bikes paperwork and also take off the pillion seat in favour of a cowl. All very faffy and expensive. So I'll have to leave it as is for now.

Yeah it's a bit of a faff. But it's also sadly a bit confusing and unknown. One TÜV inspector will say that it doesn't matter. Another will say that the pegs and the seat have to be removed and a third will say something in between! I would just chance it, but if the insurance is suddenly invalidated, then I'm potentially in big trouble!! The hangers themselves are already gunmetal grey, so they don'T stick out too much. I could swap the pegs for something smaller and black. We'll see.
